Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 950: Chapter 954: You’re Always So Thoughtful

Huo Jingrui went out at noon and came back with a cart full of coal briquettes. There were also two clay stoves on the cart.

Seeing Yunyi come out, he said, ”I borrowed these two clay stoves from logistics.”

Yunyi immediately understood his intention, ”You’re always so thoughtful.”

Huo Jingrui smiled indulgently and lowered his voice, ”This is the military family compound, after all. There are lots of detail-oriented people here. Better to be cautious.”

Yunyi wanted to help, but Huo Jingrui stopped her, ”I can handle it, there’s not much. You don’t need to get involved.”

Yunyi turned back into the house, came out with a pair of gloves, and put them on, ”If I help, it’ll go faster. Then I can rest a bit before training. Got to take care of my man myself.”

These words made Huo Jingrui feel very warm inside, and the smile never left his face. He really liked these peaceful, conflict-free days.

With their teamwork, moving the coal briquettes wasn’t tiring. After finishing, Huo Jingrui returned the cart, and Yunyi quickly stir-fried the dishes.

After lunch, the two of them snuggled on the sofa, discussing the plans for the gathering tomorrow: ”What about the table, bowls, and chopsticks for tomorrow’s meal?”

Huo Jingrui gently stroked Yunyi’s hair, ”We’ll borrow a table from various homes. As for bowls and chopsticks, I’ve already talked to the canteen; we can borrow theirs. I’ll bring them back when I return.”

Yunyi looked up at Huo Jingrui, ”Can we perhaps borrow a couple of pots from them too, to speed up cooking tomorrow?”

Huo Jingrui gently poked Yunyi’s forehead, ”I’ll head over and borrow everything in the morning to make it easier for you.”

Seeing how considerate Huo Jingrui was, Yunyi hugged his neck, pulled him closer, and gave him a loud kiss on the cheek, ”Good job, that’s your reward.”

Huo Jingrui wouldn’t let her go so easily. Before Yunyi could back away, he kissed her lips, only letting go after a while, ”If it weren’t for the lack of time, I’d show you what real sincerity is.”

He gave Yunyi a peck on her forehead, ”I’ll carry you to the kang for a nap, then I’ve got to leave.”

Yunyi was about to refuse, but Huo Jingrui scooped her up in a princess carry, so she just let him be.

She intended to just lie there for a bit before getting up to prepare, but she ended up falling asleep.

If it weren’t for Sister-in-law Lü coming over and knocking on the door, she wouldn’t have woken up.

She opened the door and welcomed her in, ”Sister-in-law, sorry, I intended to just rest a bit on the kang, but I fell asleep.”

Sister-in-law Lü laughed, ”Kang is warm; it’s easy to fall asleep there. No wonder at all. I came to see if you need any help.”

Yunyi said a bit bashfully, ”We have the main dishes ready. I was just thinking of chopping and preparing the chicken and rabbit to make it convenient for tomorrow.”

Sister-in-law Lü stood up, ”Then what are we waiting for?”

Yunyi and Sister-in-law Lü went to the kitchen. Yunyi first made a cup of brown sugar water for Sister-in-law Lü, ”Sister-in-law, have some sugar water to warm up. I’ll go bring the stuff over.”

Sister-in-law Lü took the water, ”Oh my, I’m already grown, and you made me sugar water.”

Although she said that, her face was full of smiles, ”Do you want me to help you?”

Yunyi waved her hand, ”Sister-in-law, you sip on the water first. I’ll handle it.”

Since it’s winter, there’s no worry about the ingredients going bad. Soon, Yunyi brought over the prepared chicken and rabbit, ”Sister-in-law, I’m thinking of chopping these up first, blanch them, so they’ll be ready to use directly tomorrow.”

Sister-in-law Lü saw the items, ”All this is for tomorrow’s meal.”

Yunyi spoke while taking things out, ”Yes, Jingrui said we’d need to prepare for about six tables. If we’re hosting, we must make sure everyone eats well.”

Sister-in-law Lü finished her sugar water in a few gulps and got up, ready to get to work, ”You two really are something.”
