Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 804: Chapter 802: Natural Calamity Chapter 804: Chapter 802: Natural Calamity Killed before? No effect?

Fu Qian’s statement seemed to puzzle Yasui Tokiyuki a bit.

However, this newly minted First Phase appeared somewhat full of himself and didn’t even bother to ask further, even offering a gracious blessing.

“Then I hope you achieve the desired effect this time.”

As he spoke, he scrutinized Fu Qian’s face closely.

“What a wondrous item, even I can only discern the mask’s Transcendent attributes and cannot see through its concealment.”

“But isn’t that a bit superfluous? Surely you don’t think that Nepheli hasn’t even told me your true Ranking.”

“Not at all, I wouldn’t dare forget what the Pontiff has bestowed.”

Fu Qian blurted out some nonsense.

Pontiff?

Yasui Tokiyuki looked slightly astonished but soon burst into laughter.

“That title lost its magic, oh, many years ago.”

“Don’t be nervous; before you is a sight that countless will dream of in the future.”

As Yasui Tokiyuki spoke, he turned around, looking up above.

Fu Qian politely followed his gaze, only to see in the darkness a bright cerulean streak, with a comet’s tail dreamily trailing its rapid flight.

And in the blink of an eye, the light grew from a distant glimmer to illuminating the entire night sky.

Roar!

With a thunderous noise, the shadow-casting giant mountain peak was abruptly shortened.

At the same time, countless crystalline fragments, like a pouring waterfall, surged in every direction.

Including the high hill where Fu Qian and his companion stood.

A comet? Theoretically, shouldn’t it not be this bright before it lands?

Fu Qian saw clearly; what slammed into the mountain was a giant piece of ice mixed with innumerable fragments.

And accompanying the splattering fragments was a chill far below the freezing point.

But this place was clearly magical, and according to Yasui Tokiyuki, part of a Utopia or something similar, not the actual moon, so there was no need to quibble over details.

The next moment, facing this terrifyingly powerful impact, Fu Qian’s body swelled somewhat, engulfing him in a tide of endless shattered ice.

…

“Nepheli holds you in high regard, yet it seems she still underestimated you.”

After a long while, the storm subsided.

In the midst of an icy hell, the tortoise-shell-like giant Shield quietly crumbled and decayed, revealing Yasui Tokiyuki’s figure.

This shield, materializing out of thin air and appearing utterly immovable, had easily withstood the blast of ice shards, and he remained spotless.

At this moment, Yasui Tokiyuki didn’t conceal the astonishment in his voice.

Opposite him, Fu Qian, now over two meters tall, was covered in black and red Bone Armor with dense ravines on it that were rapidly healing.

“Too kind.”

Removing a centimeters-thick icicle from his thigh, Fu Qian humbly tossed it aside.

“What was that just now?”

“Throughout history, humans have always feared various natural disasters, even those from the moon are no exception.”

Speaking in an enigmatic tone, Yasui Tokiyuki gestured with an inviting hand.

“However, natural disasters often bring interesting things along with them. Shall we go and take a look?”

“Sure.”

Fu Qian took a look at the mountain peak Yasui Tokiyuki was pointing to and agreed readily.

…

“You seem quite interested in the Native Council?”

Yasui Tokiyuki walked at an unhurried pace, as if making casual conversation.

“Transcendents should always strive for excellence. Although their philosophies differ from the Native Council’s, I do admire their spirit of exploration.”

Fu Qian, whose body had long since healed, still maintained his non-human form as he stood upon a multitude of shattered ice fragments.

“Before this, I had serious doubts about your membership in the Rebirth Club.”

“After all, it’s quite hard to imagine the Rebirth Club getting involved with the Night Watchman, whether for me or for Nepheli and the rest.”

“But now, seeing you in this form, I’m starting to believe it.”

Yasui Tokiyuki spoke with evident interest.

“This terrifying flesh power, along with that magical mask—if I had encountered you before today, I indeed would have found it somewhat troublesome.”

“You look rather unwell? You seemed to be holding up pretty well on your show.”

Fu Qian’s tone was like that of old friends catching up.

“Logically, as Emperor Yasui, you should have an abundance of both materials and information at your disposal; how could you have such significant hidden troubles during your advancement?”

“That’s an interesting question.”

Yasui Tokiyuki laughed heartily.

“If it were before today, I wouldn’t have told anyone, but now it doesn’t matter.”

“Indeed, as you say, already possessing enough deterrence when I was a Demigod, I would have only chosen to advance if I was confident in my chances. Do you know why the Second Phase is called Divine Envoy?”

“The forms of the ceremonies are myriad, but all involve using one’s own Divinity to link to the essence of the corresponding authority?”

Fu Qian had heard this basic theory explained more than once by Su Gao.

“Correct. Although I hadn’t yet made contact with the Native Council at the time, I undoubtedly made thorough preparations, and even during the actual process of advancement, I confirmed there were no mistakes. However—”

Yasui Tokiyuki stopped walking, his smile finally fading.

“—there were problems that arose which were beyond my comprehension.”

“Despite executing everything perfectly, my form suddenly became unstable.”

“Not only was I unable to transition to a complete Mythical Form, but maintaining even my own human shape became difficult; it was rapidly deteriorating.”

“The Supernatural World is far more chaotic and dangerous than imagined.”

Yasui Tokiyuki let out a deep sigh.

“So how did you resolve it in the end?”

The newly raised First Phase was generous with sharing his experience, and Fu Qian did not hesitate to ask.

“Why don’t you take a guess?”

Yasui Tokiyuki suddenly played coy.

Guess? Fu Qian pondered briefly.

“Because you prepared enough materials?”

“Why would you say that?”

“According to the concept of Divine Envoy’s advancement, it would be quite difficult to change allegiance on the spot; seems like taking a shot in the dark might be a solution.”

Fu Qian responded quite naturally.

“If the effect is not satisfactory, it’s a standard practice to increase the dosage—like having an extra portion of materials?”

“Rebirth Club is truly not to be underestimated!”

Yasui Tokiyuki laughed once more.

“Similar, but given that the materials for advancement were too precious—even I had prepared only one set—so in the end, I chose to consume another set of materials with similar properties.”

Understood.

Fu Qian instantly grasped it.

A wild guess had saved his life but also brought on side-effects.

“Anyway, I survived and even retained the Rank of Divine Envoy, but that is all.”

“Not only did my abilities become chaotic, but there’s also no hope in sight for any further advancement—well, here we are.”

While speaking, Yasui Tokiyuki stopped walking.

The two were now standing on the edge of an enormous pit.

A bone-chilling cold continuously emanated from within the pit, where countless horrifying icy spires, sharp as fangs, were illuminated by the Red Moon. They resembled a gaping maw, ready to devour anyone who dared to enter.

The next moment, that vast mouth seemed to come alive.
