Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 669: Chapter 667: The Old Path (27)_1 Chapter 669: Chapter 667: The Old Path (27)_1 It was clear that the small town had been peaceful last night, for Lei was still in his superhuman state at this moment.

The conversation between him and Fu Qian undoubtedly captured everyone’s attention.

“What in the world is going on here?”

Signaling his subordinates to keep an eye on the two men, Chief Jones was the first to speak.

“How did you come down from the mountain? Do you know how this fire started?”

“Of course, I do.”

Lei’s laughter subsided as he cast a glance at him.

“Because I was the one who set the fire.”

What!

The moment he said this, there was stunned silence in the room.

The people present were all shocked by his frank admission.

“Since you’ve admitted it…”

Chief Jones clearly hadn’t expected Lei to say such a thing and could only proceed by the book.

“There’s no need to rush to arrest me.”

Lei laughed out loud.

“Because I haven’t finished talking yet.”

As he spoke, he crouched down and revealed what he had just thrown on the ground.

Aside from the blanket, what was revealed underneath immediately elicited cries of alarm.

It was actually a person, and it seemed they were no longer showing any signs of life.

“It is…”

Before Chief Jones could speak, Lei turned the corpse’s face toward them.

“I also killed Mrs. Harrold, right here on this road.”

“No—”

Chief Jones stretched out his hand in time to catch Mrs. Mary, preventing her from falling to the ground.

At this moment, she looked at her nephew, her lips trembling.

“So, you lied earlier, you not only hit someone, but you also hid the body?”

While calming his wife, Chief Jones asked with a stern face.

“Yes.”

“And now, you’ve set the entire mountain on fire?”

“Exactly, that’s right.”

Lei’s responses were strikingly candid.

“Very well, then can you tell me why you would commit such crazy acts?”

“You’ll have to ask the person next to you about that.”

Lei pointed to Fu Qian.

“If it had been before today, I would never have admitted to these things, but just now, I finally understood everything.”

“The things I did are nothing compared to this person’s deeds!”

“A vast conspiracy is shrouding this place.”

Snorting, Lei stared at Jones.

“The things I just confessed, did they not strike you as a bit unbelievable? Did you doubt whether I could have really done them?”

“Just a regular student, but after hitting someone with a car, I was able to deal with the scene with abnormal calmness, and my methods were frighteningly professional.”

“Even a professional like you failed to notice, and you had to concoct a professional killer role to explain it.”

Jones fell silent, apparently agreeing with Lei’s assertion.

“Then, escaping unscathed from such a raging inferno, isn’t that also quite incredible?”

“Indeed, so how did you do it?”

“Quite simple, because I was infected.”

Lei pointed at himself.

What?

Not just Jones, a group of people were all staring at him, dumbfounded, unable to comprehend the meaning of his words.

“I can’t be completely sure if it’s a virus or something else.”

“But in my guess, it most likely originates from that mansion on the hill, right?”

Lei first glared at Fu Qian, then looked at Jones.

“Based on what I understand, Fu Qian should have mentioned a person named Laxik in front of you, even asking you to help find him?”

“That’s right.”

Jones didn’t deny it, this wasn’t any kind of secret information, more than one officer knew about it.

“When he came to me last night, he mentioned the same name and confidently told me that no matter what I did, I wouldn’t be able to find him.”

“I thought about it a long time and couldn’t understand the meaning of his words, until I sneaked out and came back to the mountain, returning to that courtyard.”

“There was a moment when I suddenly realized the problem—after entering this building, I became a little different.”

“The old me would never dare to come to such a place alone in the pitch dark.”

“Yet at that time, I was able to easily overcome this, along with what I had done before.”

“There is something in that courtyard that caused me to undergo an incomprehensible change, I even acquired information I shouldn’t have known myself.”

“I knew every part of that courtyard, even every buried passage below, one of which held the corpse of Mrs. Harrold…”

“This incomprehensible phenomenon suddenly led me to a guess—is the current me, Laxik, transformed by that invisible virus?”

“Virus, that’s actually an interesting analogy.”

Around Fu Qian, the audience had already subconsciously pulled away, Fran, in particular, looked exceptionally pale as if recalling similar symptoms of her own.

Could that actually be an infection?

“Are you trying to say that the crimes you committed earlier were all involuntary, controlled by some special virus?”

Upon hearing this, the old man who looked like the mayor finally couldn’t help but speak up.

“Honestly, this is a bit hard to believe!”

“Hard to believe? Honestly, I felt the same at first, but do you think I’m the only one?”

Lei rummaged through the corpse’s pocket with one hand and threw out a packet of something.

“Why don’t you go and ask the hospitalized Harrold why his wife happened to appear in that spot so coincidentally?”

“I even found a special medicine in this lady’s car, isn’t it somewhat similar to the Harrold who fell off the bridge?”

“In the absence of a professional killer, how exactly did that car accident happen?”

Watching Jones and the mayor frown deeply, Lei burst into uncontrollable laughter.

“I’m just an outsider who comes here for vacations occasionally, how many of you have passed by there? Or have been inside?”

“In my opinion, over a long period of time, that virus has probably already infected everyone; it’s just that most haven’t shown symptoms yet, and this guy—”

He pointed at Fu Qian again.

“He knows all this and has turned this place into a testing site, every one of us his experimental subjects, watching coldly as we erupt, one by one turning into lunatics…”

“That’s also why I destroyed that building, next, we need to find a way to lift this ‘Curse’.”

“Is it really so?”

Listening in silence, Jones stared hard at Fu Qian.

It must be said, Lei’s statement, although outrageous, fit quite well with Fu Qian’s earlier performance.

Heh heh.

Facing the accusations, Fu Qian simply smiled slightly, the demeanor of a puppet master fully revealed.

“I won’t easily believe such a bizarre argument, right now you two are coming back with me—”

Jones was visibly furious when he spoke, but then Lei suddenly thudded to the ground.

The man who had just walked through fire, now devoid of his former heroic stance.

Hmm?

In the midst of confusion, the nearby officers reacted swiftly, rushing forward to pin the man down immediately.

But at that moment, incredibly, another figure dashed out of the fireworks.

“Kateman?”

Jones recognized the person almost instantly.
