Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 294: Successfully Joined! Starting Out as Vice President!

When Lin Yu returned home again, it was already the late hours of the night, or rather, almost morning.

As he passed by the breakfast shop at the community entrance, its rolling shutter was already half-open, looking like it would be ready for business soon.

While carefully climbing back into his bedroom via the outdoor air conditioning unit and lying down, Lin Yu sighed with relief that his older sister didnʼt run a breakfast shop.

As for why he returned so late...

It wasnʼt because he spent a long time dealing with Fluoxetine.

In fact, after he expressed his desire to join the Psychological Society, Fluoxetine immediately agreed happily.

”Of course you can, we welcome your joining very, very much!”

Just as Lin Yu had guessed...

Fluoxetine completely didnʼt care that he had just tried to kill her.

She truly wasnʼt a hypocrite.
The Psychological Society also didnʼt mind recruiting someone who harbored murderous intentions toward their members as a new member.

Of course, the Psychological Societyʼs admission threshold was actually quite high.

While it placed no moral constraints on joiners, it was extremely strict in other aspects.

First... this thing operated on an invitation-only system.

In other words, if some random person told the Psychological Society ”I want to join you,” it wouldnʼt be acknowledged.

Only those they considered ”having potential” would receive invitations.

This was exactly why Lin Yu needed to merge the identities of ”Zhu Ming” and ”Xia Yue” - because Lin Yu knew that ”Xia Yue” had also been named as S-rank potential.

If it were just that, it wouldnʼt be too bad. Although A-rank and S-rank werenʼt common, at least there were plenty of B-ranks.

Besides needing an invitation to join the Psychological Society, you also had to see whether you agreed with their principles.

This was what caused Lin Yu to return home late.

On the rooftop of Jinmao Tower, Fluoxetine pulled out a brand new tablet and made a video call.

”Next, someone will give you an organization introduction and assess your personality... itʼs someone from the Professional Committee, so relax.”

After the video call connected, Fluoxetine just shoved the tablet into Lin Yuʼs hands.

Then this crazy woman tossed out a ”Good luck” (who knew who it was meant for) before jumping off the building and disappearing!

On the screen was a man in a white lab coat wearing a Rorschach inkblot mask, seemingly paying homage to the anti-hero comic ”Watchmen.”

The man introduced himself as ”Rosenthal” and said he was responsible for conducting the ”final confirmation” with Lin Yu.

Although somewhat confused, Lin Yu started chatting with him.

The whole atmosphere felt a bit strange...

Compared to joining the Psychological Society - an organization known for its somewhat insane deeds and evil-sounding purpose that was publicly recognized as a ”villain organization” - Lin Yu felt like he was participating in some major corporationʼs job interview.

He stood on the rooftop holding the tablet for a full two-hour video call.

During the first hour, that ”Rosenthal” detailed the Psychological Societyʼs operational principles and business scope to Lin Yu.

Lin Yu had already known roughly before, but this Rosenthal still confirmed that Lin Yuʼs hearsay information was accurate.

”Our Psychological Society is dedicated to using assessment, observation, and other methods, leveraging the Society headquarters and Regional Branchesʼ [Artifacts], along with the [Psyche Recorder] provided by Mr. Bandura, to discover players and non-players with potential.”

”Most players donʼt actually understand the true nature of the Death Game, and even those in higher positions and large organizations who do comprehend it often conceal and distort this fact - that the Death Game is promoting evolution at the human soul level.”

”I know youʼre surprised by this... but itʼs the truth, my friend. The Death Game is a second chance after accidental death for each player, but for humanity as a whole... this is the gods making us evolve.”

”After weʼve established ʼcivilizationʼ and every individual possesses wisdom, whatʼs more important than physical evolution is spiritual evolution.”

”So, our Psychological Society emerged accordingly - we want to cooperate with this game created by the gods to accelerate its progress.”

”For those already in the game, we identify those with potential among them, waiting for opportunities to apply pressure or offer help to promote their ʼevolution.ʼ”

”And for those not yet in the game... we absolutely wonʼt allow those with boundless potential to waste their lives.”

”According to Council member Mr. Freud, a personʼs potential, and even whether they can join the Death Game or not, are not fixed.”

”Itʼs very possible that someone is ambitious and full of vigor in their youth, but just a few years later, they become dull and foolish.”

”What if they donʼt encounter accidents during their most spiritually potent years?”

”This requires our Psychological Society to prevent problems before they occur, personally sending those with high potential into the game as much as possible!”

”Youʼre no exception, my friend... perhaps you still harbor resentment about this, but youʼll understand eventually.”

”Now... letʼs talk about you. I have some questions for you.”

After that, that ”Rosenthal” actually conducted a psychological interview and testing with Lin Yu.

”How would you rate your emotional control?”

”Whatʼs your first impression of family?”

”Use any animal to describe yourself.”

And it was like those from shady websites.

To be honest...

These questions were indeed abstract and mixed with plenty of distracting options. The large number of questions easily made oneʼs true thoughts and subconscious surface inadvertently.

But fortunately, Lin Yu was an immersive method actor.

Plus, having considerable understanding of Xia Yue - heʼd even seen Xia Yueʼs work and growth environment - Lin Yu could completely immerse himself in the ”Xia Yue” role.

The moment he heard each question, Lin Yu instantly sank into character.

During that hour, he almost completely answered those questions subconsciously as if he were Xia Yue.

Although he didnʼt know what level this Rosenthal was, Lin Yu felt certain.

The other party couldnʼt possibly detect any flaws.

Because once immersed in a role, even Lin Yu himself couldnʼt recognize himself.

After the video call ended, it took Lin Yu over ten minutes to slowly step out of character.

But it was all worth it.

Now Lin Yu...

Had become an official member of the Psychological Societyʼs Jiangcheng Regional Branch - and immediately upon joining, became Jiangchengʼs Vice President.

”Respected Ms. Zhu Ming, the Jiangcheng Regional Branch President will conduct the handover with you tomorrow!”

Everything was worth it.

Lying on his bed, playing with the brand new phone and tablet, Lin Yu sighed with emotion.

”Putting everything else aside about this Psychological Society, the benefits are surprisingly good!”
