We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 398: We Womens Tears Are Shed for Our Beloved to Cherish

After Xiao Shiʼs death and Xiao Mo took command of the Northern Frontier army, another half year passed.

During this half year, aside from occasional friction at the borders, most places within the Qin Kingdom remained peaceful. Many common folk even forgot that the Qin Kingdom was currently at war with various nations.

As for news about the Qin Kingdomʼs crown prince, there was still little progress.

Those ministers continued to recommend various princes with royal blood, but the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler hadnʼt agreed to any of them.

The crown prince position remained vacant.

Some court officials speculated whether His Majesty wanted to father another prince and then continue cultivating him.

Some court officials even speculated that His Majesty was waiting for the Frost Prince and Third Princess Qin Siyao to give birth to an imperial grandson who could inherit the throne but the Frost Prince and Third Princess werenʼt even married yet.

In any case, no one could figure out what His Majesty intended to do.

In comparison, the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler had Qin Siyao help him handle government affairs every day.

In the beginning, Qin Siyaoʼs handling of various court matters was indeed rather immature but Qin Siyao was extremely talented.
Actually, long ago, the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler had known his daughter was very intelligent. After all, when his daughter was born, heavenly phenomena had appeared.

It was just that his daughter had lived too comfortably, so she didnʼt take many things to heart. She was simply too lazy, which was why her talent didnʼt show but what the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler hadnʼt expected was that when his daughter truly became serious, her learning speed was genuinely frightening.

With some key points, the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler only needed to give simple reminders and she could completely understand, even able to draw inferences from one example.

Only because Qin Siyao was a daughter.

Otherwise, if Qin Siyao had been a third prince, perhaps the crown prince position would have had nothing to do with her two brothers.

The only thing the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler felt regretful about was that his own time was still too short.

If he could live a few more years and pave the way a bit more for his daughter, perhaps his daughterʼs future would be easier but in this world, there were no ”ifs.”

And also during this half year, Empress Shiʼs health declined day by day.

Xiao Mo also frequently entered the palace to visit Empress Shi.

Perhaps because Empress Shi truly couldnʼt bear to leave her daughter, that final breath still hadnʼt dispersed.

In Xiao Moʼs view, for Empress Shi to hold on until now was truly not easy but all things must come to an end.

Xiao Mo knew that this reasonable empressʼs final days were very likely within these next few days.

On this particular morning, Qin Siyao came to her motherʼs sleeping chambers as usual, intending to brew medicine for her mother as usual but Empress Shi grasped her daughterʼs wrist and smiled, ”Siyao, Mother doesnʼt really want to take medicine today. You donʼt need to busy yourself. Just accompany Mother for a walk, alright?”

Hearing her motherʼs words, Qin Siyao seemed to understand something. Her eyes trembled slightly, and her beautiful eyes became veiled with a faint mist.

Qin Siyao pressed her lips together, forcibly suppressing the tears in her eyes. She nodded with a smile, ”Alright, Mother. Siyao will help you up right away.”

Empress Shi was helped up by her daughter and sat before the vanity.

Qin Siyao personally helped her mother with her makeup and changed her clothes.

Half an hour later, Empress Shi led Qin Siyao out of the sleeping chambers.

The two of them walked step by step toward the imperial mausoleum in the palace.

The cenotaphs of First Prince Qin Jingsu and Second Prince were both located here.

”Siyao, from now on, you must take good care of your father. Your father is someone who likes to handle everything personally. He works too hard. You must advise him more. Your father will only listen to your words.”

Walking along the path, Empress Shi entrusted these words to Qin Siyao.

”I understand, Mother.” Qin Siyao lowered her head and nodded.

”Also, having your father let you handle government affairs is a good thing. In the future, you should also pay more attention to court matters. As for those court officials, aside from your husband Xiao Mo, you cannot trust anyone. Understand?”

”I understand, Mother.”

”And also, we who are wives must be magnanimous. Mother knows you love Xiao Mo, and Xiao Mo loves you too. But this matter of love is hard to say. Itʼs best if Xiao Mo doesnʼt marry anyone else, but if one day Xiao Mo takes concubines, donʼt be angry either.”

”Mm, donʼt worry, Mother. I wonʼt be angry.”

”You must properly manage household affairs for Xiao Mo. In the future, if you and Xiao Mo have children, you donʼt need too many. Too many isnʼt good either, but you canʼt have too few. One boy and one girl would be quite nice.”

”After Mother dies, tell your father not to hold a grand funeral. Now the nation is stretched thin. Once someone is dead, thereʼs no need to waste that money. Just hold a simple ceremony. Mother will be buried beside your two brothers. After Mother is gone, she can find them.”

”Also, Mother knows you have a soft temperament, but sometimes you cannot be softhearted, or youʼll be bullied.”

”Besides Xiao Mo, never cry in front of others. We womenʼs tears arenʼt shed for others to see. Theyʼre shed for our beloved to cherish.”

”Have you clearly remembered everything Mother said?”

”Mm.” Qin Siyaoʼs voice carried a trace of choking, ”Mother, rest assured. Siyao has remembered everything.”

”Good that youʼve remembered.”

Before she realized it, Empress Shi had already arrived before her two sonsʼ tombs.

Empress Shi walked forward, lightly brushed her robes, and knelt gracefully on the ground. She extended her hand and gently stroked the white tombstone.

”Jingsu, Jingyuan, Mother has come to see you. But after this, it will be hard on Siyao. Jingsu, Jingyuan. Siyao, she... can she really hold on?”

Empress Shiʼs breathing became increasingly faint. Her eyelids grew heavier and heavier as if drowsy. Her voice became even more like falling leaves, barely audible.

As Empress Shiʼs final word fell, her eyes gradually closed. She lowered her head, as if falling asleep, only she would never wake again.

”Mother.”

”Mother.”

”Mother.”

Kneeling beside her, Qin Siyao tightly grasped her motherʼs sleeve. Her eyes could no longer bear the weight of her tears, which flowed down like a spring.

The silent mausoleum echoed with the young womanʼs calls again and again, yet no one ever responded.

In the imperial study, the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler suddenly felt a pain in his chest and pressed it tightly.

”Your Majesty...”

Eunuch Li hurried forward in alarm.

The Qin Kingdomʼs ruler waved his hand, telling him to withdraw.

The Qin Kingdomʼs ruler looked toward a delicate jade carving on the desk. That jade carving was a gift Empress Shi had personally made for the Qin Kingdomʼs ruler when she entered the palace years ago.

And at this moment, cracks had already appeared in the jade carving.

”Itʼs alright, Xinʼer.”

The Qin Kingdomʼs ruler extended his hand and tenderly stroked the jade carving.

”This husband will soon come to accompany you.”
