We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 368: Peace Year After Year

After Xiao Mo underwent tribulation to enter Nascent Soul, the Qin Kingdom’s ruler had people send congratulatory gifts.

Additionally, many court officials took this opportunity to send gifts, hoping to establish good relations with Xiao Mo.

After all, Xiao Moʼs current status could be described as being at the height of power. His future command of the Northern Frontier was a certainty. No one didnʼt want to latch onto Xiao Moʼs coattails. However, apart from the Qin Kingdom’s rulerʼs congratulatory gifts, Xiao Mo refused all other gifts.

Several days passed, and it was New Yearʼs Eve.

Every household hung lanterns and decorations, casting out the old and welcoming the new, replacing old spring couplets and door gods with new ones.

Whether in Qin Kingdom or other nations, the door god was the same man.

Legend said this man was the first human sword immortal from the age of ancient divine beings, and also the leader of the human race, who led humanity to open heaven and earth and overthrow the rule of divine beings. However, because it was so long ago, portraits of this human ancestor hadnʼt been passed down. Later generations could only rely on descriptions from legends and use their imagination to paint him.

This resulted in the fact that although the door gods pasted on doors throughout the nations were all the same person, their appearances werenʼt quite the same.

Xiao Mo and Qin Siyao also pasted spring couplets and door gods but the Frost Princeʼs Manor was really too large, so Xiao Mo and Qin Siyao only pasted them together on the main gate of the Frost Princeʼs Manor and their two courtyards.

As for the other courtyards, that was naturally left to the maids.
After finishing the spring couplets and door gods at the Frost Princeʼs Manor, Xiao Mo and Qin Siyao immediately went to the Xiao Princeʼs Manor.

”Mother, Aunt Cui, weʼre here.”

Outside the courtyard, Qin Siyao called out happily, carrying New Year gifts.

”Why has Siyao come?”

Zhou Ruoxi happily came forward to greet them. Cuicui also hurriedly took the New Year gifts from Xiao Mo and Qin Siyaoʼs hands and placed them on the stone table.

Zhou Ruoxi knew Moʼer would definitely come to spend the New Year with her, but she didnʼt expect Siyao would also come along. She had thought Siyao would return to the imperial palace to accompany her father emperor and mother empress.

”Of course Siyao came to spend the New Year together with Mother.” Qin Siyao pulled her mother-in-lawʼs hand sweetly.

”But His Majestyʼs side...” Zhou Ruoxi said tactfully.

”Itʼs fine, Mother. Although Siyao hasnʼt crossed the threshold yet, Iʼm already part of the Xiao family. Moreover, my father emperor has my two brothers accompanying him, so one less person doesnʼt matter. Not to mention, my mother empress has already agreed.”

Speaking and speaking, Qin Siyao pretended to be pitiful, her tone anxious.

”Could it be Mother doesnʼt welcome Siyao?”

”You silly girl, what are you saying? Mother is too happy for words.” Zhou Ruoxi tapped Qin Siyaoʼs forehead, naturally knowing Siyao was being coquettish. ”Later Mother will cook your favorite crescent moon meat.”

”Thank you, Mother. Mother is the best.” Qin Siyao happily hugged Zhou Ruoxiʼs arm, her head rubbing against her happily.

”Alright, you two, are you done? Come have some tea.”

Not far away, Xiao Mo called out to Qin Siyao with a smile.

”Coming, coming.” Qin Siyao responded, ”Mother, weʼre going to paste spring couplets for you. Weʼll definitely paste them nice and neat.”

”Go ahead, go ahead.” Zhou Ruoxi patted Qin Siyaoʼs small hand.

Qin Siyao picked up the spring couplets from the table and happily jumped to Xiao Moʼs side.

Xiao Mo didnʼt use magic techniques. Instead, like an ordinary person, he took a ladder and climbed up, pasting the spring couplets on both sides of the courtyard.

The upper and lower couplets were both written by Xiao Mo. The horizontal inscription was written by Qin Siyao.

Although their calligraphy was a bit inferior to master calligraphers, it could definitely be considered good-looking.

Watching the two paste spring couplets, Zhou Ruoxiʼs lips curved slightly upward. She felt these days had been happy to the point of feeling somewhat unreal...

After finishing the spring couplets, Qin Siyao also ran to the kitchen, helping Zhou Ruoxi and Cuicui prepare the New Yearʼs Eve dinner together.

As if knowing how ”remarkable” her cooking skills were, Qin Siyao didnʼt take charge of cooking today but helped from the side.

As for Xiao Mo, he sat at the stone table in the courtyard carving formations. When the dishes came out, the formations could keep the food warm.

Until evening, when the last dish came out of the kitchen, only then did Xiao Mo wind firecrackers around a bamboo pole outside the courtyard gate.

”Let me light it, let me light it...”

Qin Siyao held an incense stick, eager to light the firecrackers but every time she touched the firecrackerʼs fuse, Qin Siyao would fearfully draw back her hand...

”Wife, can you do it or not? If not, Iʼll do it.” Xiao Mo said with a smile.

”Of course I can!” Qin Siyao pouted, her eyes rolling, ”Eh? Iʼve got it. Husband, come here!”

Without waiting for Xiao Mo to refuse, Qin Siyao pulled him over.

Qin Siyao held Xiao Mo with one hand and slowly reached forward with the incense stick in the other.

The instant Qin Siyao lit the firecrackerʼs fuse, she turned like a little cat and pounced into Xiao Moʼs embrace.

Xiao Mo understood tacitly and helplessly quickly lifted her up, then ran into the courtyard. Behind Xiao Mo, ”crackling and popping” sounds immediately rang out.

As the last explosion finished, Xiao Mo and the others sat around the stone table.

”In the new year, Siyao and Husband wish Mother a long life of a hundred years and longevity like the Southern Mountain. We wish Aunt Cui to become more and more beautiful.”

”Thank you, Moʼer and Siyao.”

”Thank you, Young Master and Princess.”

Zhou Ruoxi raised her wine cup, ”We also wish Moʼer and Siyao to grow old together with white hair, to be united in heart forever, peace year after year.”

”Cheers!”

As blessing words floated through the courtyard, Qin Siyao happily stood up, and everyoneʼs wine cups clinked together.

After finishing the New Yearʼs Eve dinner, the sky had already darkened.

In Qin Kingdomʼs imperial capital, it became lively once again.

Qin Kingdom had a custom.

That was, on this New Yearʼs Eve night, they would hold a lantern festival.

After eating the New Yearʼs Eve dinner, every household would go to the town together to keep vigil, together welcoming the arrival of the new year.

Xiao Moʼs family was naturally no exception.

The four of them left the courtyard and came to the imperial capitalʼs streets. At this time, it was already packed with people, extremely lively.

The long street was lit by various lanterns in a warm yellow glow.

Under eaves and on tree branches hung round silk lanterns with neatly written ”fortune” characters or simple paintings of flowers and birds.

Red cloth banners hung continuously in front of various shops, gently swaying in the wind.

Sounds of laughter, childrenʼs playful voices, faint gong and drum sounds in the distance, mixed with vendorsʼ clear calls, converged into one piece, yet didnʼt feel noisy.

The air was filled with the sweet fragrance of freshly baked pastries, mixed with the roasted aroma of candied chestnuts, threading into peopleʼs noses bit by bit.

Standing at the center of an arched bridge looking down, the river surface was already covered with points of lamplight.

People crouched by the stone steps, carefully sending their lotus lanterns into the water. The lotus lanterns drifted slowly with the current, gradually connecting into a band of flickering light, echoing with the sparse stars in the sky.

Qin Siyao held her mother-in-lawʼs arm, her body leaning slightly toward her mother-in-lawʼs ear, pointing at fresh things on the street and softly saying something.

Zhou Ruoxiʼs eyes relaxed, appearing especially gentle in the lantern light.

They stopped at a stall selling silk flowers. Qin Siyao picked up a light pink one, turned her head with a smile, and showed it to her mother-in-law.

Cuicui placed her hands in front of her, following beside her mistress and young lady.

As for Xiao Mo, he walked a bit further behind, looking at the mother who had given birth to him and raised him, looking at his beloved wife, looking at Aunt Cui who had grown up with him and was long since no longer a servant.

The instant past midnight, sounds of bells rang out, spreading throughout the entire imperial capital.

”Whoosh~”

”Whoosh~”

”Whoosh~”

Immediately after, fireworks flew into the sky one after another, like fresh flowers blooming in the night.

The bell sounds and fireworks represented that the new year had already arrived.

”Husband, come quickly, come quickly. Theyʼre setting off fireworks...” Qin Siyao turned around, waving her slender hand at Xiao Mo.

”Young Master, come quickly. This servant has secured a good spot for you.” Cuicui also called out.

”Moʼer.” Even Mother, who usually didnʼt like crowds, was also softly calling.

”Coming.”

Xiao Mo smiled slightly and walked forward.

More and more fireworks filled the entire night sky, diagonally and sparsely splitting open the heavens.

Like silvery bright chrysanthemums, thread by thread hanging down. Before they completely faded, beside them burst forth rouge-colored hydrangeas, blooming in clusters.

Points of light flickered and fell downward, like many warm rains. Finally, only a few traces of smoke remained, softly twining around the half-crescent moon.

As if tonight, all colors had melted into this inky darkness.
