Chapter 377: A Wife? A Wife...

The third day after Jin Kingdomʼs army arrived at Lu Provinceʼs provincial capital.

Qin Jingyuan also assembled the one hundred fifty thousand troops from his two provincial fiefs to depart together with Jin Kingdom.

Jin Kingdom advanced under the banner of ”The Qin ruler is tyrannical and incompetent, the First Prince is incapable, the Second Prince should rightfully restore Qin Kingdomʼs state and altars.”

In truth, everyone knew all this was nonsense, just nonsense that sounded more dignified.

What tyrannical and incompetent?

What incapable First Prince?

It was all wolfish ambition, all for the Second Princeʼs desire for that lofty imperial throne of Qin Kingdom!

The army passed through Lu Province and arrived at Jin Province.

Jin Province was also Qin Jingyuanʼs fief. Most of the generals had been replaced by Qin Jingyuan.

The current city lords were either mediocre nonentities or confidants that the Second Prince had cultivated in ordinary times.
When these generals saw a million-strong army approaching the city walls, especially under the Second Princeʼs call to surrender, they directly surrendered, with almost no hesitation whatsoever.

Of course, Qin Kingdom valued martial prowess, and especially now that Qin Kingdomʼs national strength was flourishing, most citizens carried a sense of pride in Qin Kingdom.

So some wastrels who in the past frequented brothels and enjoyed their ancestorsʼ blessings were instead unusually resolute in the face of such major principles, even cursing Jin Kingdom and Qin Jingyuan from atop the city walls.

This was completely beyond Qin Jingyuanʼs expectations but so what?

These defending generals had insufficient troops, and the cities were quickly breached.

These generals naturally either died or fled.

Because the sieges went far too smoothly and Jin Province quickly fell entirely, Jin Kingdomʼs army had become somewhat arrogant.

Some generals even felt that with or without this Second Prince, it seemed about the same.

They would just need to expend a bit more effort when capturing Qin Kingdom, but they could still take down Qin Kingdom with their strength.

The so-called fierce tiger and wolf army of Qin Kingdom seemed nothing special after all.

And the result was that in the army, more and more generals stopped taking Qin Jingyuan seriously, feeling he was superfluous.

To the point where at a victory celebration banquet one day, someone stirred up trouble, asking Qin Jingyuan to perform a sword dance for entertainment.

Having a man perform a sword dance for entertainment, even if just said in jest, would make people draw their swords in confrontation but Qin Jingyuan merely laughed it off, saying he couldnʼt perform sword dances.

Seeing Qin Jingyuanʼs reaction, this person felt Qin Jingyuan was truly worthless and became even more unbridled in his jeering but just then, Ji Yue, sitting beside Qin Jingyuan, stood up and curtsied to all the generals, ”This humble woman is without talent, but since everyone is in high spirits and wants to see a sword dance, this humble woman shall perform a sword dance for everyoneʼs entertainment.”

After speaking, Ji Yue took out her husbandʼs sword and began dancing gracefully in the military tent.

Although Ji Yue had average talent and was merely a Foundation Building realm cultivator, she at least primarily cultivated sword techniques and had learned music, chess, calligraphy, painting, and Jin Kingdom dances from childhood.

So when Ji Yue performed her sword dance, it was extremely pleasing to watch, combining strength and grace but when Ji Yue danced to the end, she suddenly struck down with her sword.

The deputy general who had suggested Qin Jingyuan perform a sword dance was startled and hastily dodged. The teacup on his table was shattered by Ji Yueʼs sword strike, wine and water spilling onto him!

All the generals were shocked, but not a single person dared speak.

After all, no matter what, Ji Yue was Jin Kingdomʼs Eldest Princess, the face of Jin Kingdomʼs imperial family, and moreover, the beloved daughter of Jin Kingdomʼs ruler.

For this arranged marriage between Jin Kingdomʼs Eldest Princess and Qin Kingdomʼs Second Prince, Jin Kingdomʼs ruler had made an extremely difficult decision, even quarreling with the empress for a long time.

To the point where Jin Kingdomʼs ruler still felt guilty and wanted to compensate his daughter after the matter succeeded.

So they didnʼt dare treat this married-off princess lightly.

”I wonder how this humble womanʼs sword dance was?”

Ji Yue said coldly.

”Good, naturally it was very good...” This deputy general named Gai Yan hastily said, cold sweat involuntarily breaking out on his forehead.

He had no doubt whatsoever that the Princessʼs sword strike had truly intended to kill him.

”Ji Yue, donʼt fool around.” Qin Jingyuan stood up and bowed to all the generals, ”My wife was playing around momentarily and didnʼt know proper measure. Please forgive her, generals.”

”Hahahaha... where does Prince Jing get such words?” Yan Liuyun said with a laugh, ”That we could witness the Princessʼs sword dance is already a rare occasion in this lifetime. How could it be fooling around?”

”Marquis Hu is magnanimous!” Qin Jingyuan bowed again to Yan Liuyun.

”Come! Continue drinking. Princess, please be seated as well.” Yan Liuyun said with a smile.

Ji Yue coldly glanced at everyone before returning to sit beside her husband.

At this moment, Ji Yue was once again docile as a rabbit, unlike her sharp demeanor while sword dancing.

After the banquet, Qin Jingyuan used the excuse of being unable to hold his liquor and left the tent with Ji Yue.

After Qin Jingyuan left, the deputy general named Gai Jing heavily smashed his wine flask on the ground and said angrily, ”A kept man! If not for the Princess, heʼs not even worthy of polishing my shoes!”

Hearing the deputy generalʼs anger, Yan Liuyun said nothing and simply drank quietly.

Upon returning to the tent, Ji Yue was about to remove Qin Jingyuanʼs shoes and attend to him as he slept but Qin Jingyuan avoided her, removing his own shoes and lying down on the bed.

Ji Yue glanced at her husband but said nothing. After curtsying, she lay down on another bed not far away.

Since their marriage, although Ji Yue and Qin Jingyuan shared a room, they had never shared a bed and just as Ji Yue lay back on her bed, Qin Jingyuanʼs voice came from not far away, ”Do you think Iʼm useless?”

Ji Yue sat up and looked at her husband.

She saw Qin Jingyuan looking at the ceiling, continuing to speak, ”Back then in the imperial capital, how glorious was I? Yet now, for that throne, I have need of Jin Kingdom. I must swallow my anger even when mocked, just because Iʼve taken this path of rebellion. From now on, thereʼs no turning back.”

”...” After a moment of silence, Ji Yue raised her head and said seriously, ”This consort... this consort has never thought that way.”

”Hehehe, is that so?” Qin Jingyuan chuckled lightly. Without asking further, he slowly said, ”In the future, you need not stand up for me. Thereʼs no need. Your dignity as a princess, each time you use it, you have less of it.”

”But... but this consort is your husbandʼs wife...” Ji Yue tightly gripped her blanket.

”Iʼve said what needed to be said. Though you and I have the name of husband and wife, we lack the reality of it. Just think of yourself. You need not concern yourself with me.” Qin Jingyuan responded.

”This consort...”

”Sleep.”

Ji Yue wanted to say something more, but Qin Jingyuan cut off her words and turned over.

”Yes.” Ji Yue nodded and said gently.

Lying on his side on the bed, Qin Jingyuan faced the window, looking at the boundless night.

In his mind, the scene of Ji Yue striking down toward Gai Jing kept replaying, along with her words just now.

Involuntarily, the corners of Qin Jingyuanʼs mouth quietly curved up yet the manʼs smile also seemed to carry some mockery.

”A wife?”

”A wife...”
