Yandere Stream

Kai didn’t breathe.

The whisper had been so quiet that, for a split second, he wondered if exhaustion had finally caught up with him. He’d been awake for nearly twenty hours, fueled almost entirely by caffeine, adrenaline, and whatever chemical cocktail panic dumped into the human bloodstream.

Then Luna spoke.

”...Kai.”

Her voice was barely audible.

”You heard that too?”

His stomach sank.

”So it wasn’t just me.”

”No.”

That single word erased the last shred of comfort he’d been holding onto.

Very slowly, Kai aimed his flashlight back into the maintenance shaft.

The envelope was gone.

The pipe where it had rested sat empty.

Dust drifted lazily through the narrow beam of light, disturbed by something that had moved only moments earlier.

The shaft itself couldn’t have been more than two feet wide. Electrical conduits climbed between rough concrete walls, disappearing into darkness above and below. Old pipes ran alongside them, stained with rust from decades of condensation.

There wasn’t enough room for a grown adult to stand inside.

So where had the envelope gone?

His pulse quickened.

Unless...

Whoever had taken it hadn’t been standing inside the shaft.

They’d been above it.

Or below it.

Watching through the narrow opening.

Waiting.

A cold shiver crawled up his spine.

Without realizing it, he took a step backward.

The bookshelf remained pushed a few inches away from the wall, revealing just enough of the hidden space to remind him it existed. Now that it had stopped moving, it looked completely ordinary again.

As if it had never concealed anything.

”Kai.”

Luna’s voice gently pulled him back.

”I need you to tell me exactly what you can see.”

He forced himself to crouch again.

”The shaft goes both directions.”

”Up?”

”And down.”

”What about footprints?”

He swept the flashlight across the concrete floor.

Dust.

Old cobwebs.

A rusted pipe bracket bolted into the wall.

Nothing else.

”I don’t think anyone’s been inside.”

”That doesn’t make sense.”

”I know.”

Neither of them spoke.

The silence wasn’t uncomfortable anymore.

Hours ago, they had been strangers.

Now they’d developed an unspoken rhythm, each waiting while the other pieced together another impossible detail.

The chat, however, had no interest in quiet reflection.

LaundryDragon:

BRO FOUND THE DLC

ActualNPC93:

WHY DOES EVERY APARTMENT HAVE SECRET TUNNELS NOW

FriedKeyboard:

I’M INSPECTING MY WALLS TOMORROW

Kai glanced at his monitor and managed a tired smile.

”I feel responsible for a lot of landlord complaints tomorrow.”

The chat filled with laughing emotes.

For exactly three seconds, the apartment almost felt normal again.

Then his streaming software chimed.

A new donation alert appeared.

Kai frowned immediately.

There was no amount.

No username.

No colorful animation.

Only a plain gray notification box.

Anonymous

You should have opened the envelope.

His smile vanished.

”...Can anonymous donations even do that?”

”I don’t think so.”

Luna sounded just as confused.

Without anyone touching it, his moderation dashboard opened on the second monitor.

The donation history was empty.

No payment.

No notification.

Nothing.

His moderators were already flooding the staff chat.

MiloMod:

Kai???

Did you make that notification??

JulesMod:

It’s not in StreamHub.

RinMod:

Checking server logs now.

Kai stared at the messages.

”...They didn’t send it.”

”What?”

”My moderators.”

Luna went quiet.

”Then something generated it locally.”

”Locally?”

”On your computer.”

Kai slowly turned toward the tower sitting beneath his desk.

The tempered-glass side panel reflected the beam of his flashlight.

RGB lights pulsed softly inside, cycling through their usual colors.

Cooling fans spun lazily.

Nothing looked different.

Nothing looked wrong.

Yet tonight, the computer had spoken.

It had muted his stream.

Displayed notifications that didn’t exist.

Played voices no one else could hear.

The machine no longer felt like a computer.

It felt like another person sitting in the apartment with him.

His phone vibrated.

This time, it wasn’t another unknown number.

It was Derek.

Calling.

For the first time all night.

Kai looked toward Discord.

”Luna?”

”Answer it.”

He accepted the call and switched Derek to speaker.

The moment the connection opened, Derek didn’t even bother with a greeting.

”Are you still in the apartment?”

Kai blinked.

”...Yeah.”

A string of muffled swearing came from the other end.

”You need to listen carefully.”

”What happened?”

”The officers outside?”

”...Yeah?”

”They’re real.”

Kai let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.

”But...”

Derek’s tone sharpened.

”They’re responding to the wrong apartment.”

Kai frowned.

”What?”

”The dispatcher mixed up the unit numbers.”

For a moment, his heartbeat actually slowed.

Then it accelerated all over again.

”They’ve been searching 7B.”

Kai looked back toward the maintenance shaft.

Toward the empty pipe where the envelope had rested.

Toward the darkness hidden behind the wall.

His apartment wasn’t 7B.

But earlier...

The building’s emergency system had reported that an unauthorized master key had been used on Unit 7B.

His mind raced.

Not an answer.

A pattern.

Everything tonight somehow circled back to that apartment.

The hidden phone.

The impossible messages.

The maintenance shaft.

The unauthorized key.

Nothing pointed directly at him.

Everything pointed toward 7B.

”Derek...”

His voice dropped to a whisper.

”Who lives in 7B?”

Silence.

Long enough that Kai pulled the phone away from his ear to make sure the call hadn’t disconnected.

Finally, Derek spoke.

”...Nobody.”

”I know it’s vacant.”

”No.”

Derek exhaled slowly.

”I mean nobody knows who lived there.”

Kai frowned.

”What are you talking about?”

”The apartment was leased.”

His grip tightened around the phone.

”The paperwork exists.”

”The utilities were connected.”

”Furniture was delivered.”

”The lease was signed.”

He paused.

”But...”

His voice became noticeably quieter.

”...No one has ever been able to prove anyone actually moved in.”

The apartment suddenly felt colder.

Kai glanced toward the hidden phone beneath the hallway table.

Its screen lit up.

Not with another timer.

Not with a photograph.

Not with a video.

Just a single line of white text against a black screen.

Welcome to 7B.

The words lingered for only a second.

Then the display changed again.

A floor plan appeared.

Simple.

Black and white.

Two apartments.

His own.

And 7B.

They were separated by a single maintenance shaft.

A thin red line began tracing a path through the walls.

Not from 7B to the hallway.

Not from the hallway to his front door.

From 7B...

Directly into his apartment.

The line stopped beneath the bookshelf.

A second message faded onto the screen.

You’ve been neighbors longer than you think.

Kai felt every muscle in his body go rigid.

Slowly...

Almost mechanically...

He turned his flashlight back toward the opening behind the bookshelf.

The darkness hadn’t changed.

The pipes hadn’t moved.

But for the first time all night...

It no longer felt empty.
