Yandere Stream

The tapping came again.

Three slow knocks.

Not from the front door.

Not from the hallway.

From behind the bookshelf.

Kai’s body reacted before his brain had time to catch up. He stumbled backward so violently that his heel hooked the leg of his desk chair, sending it skidding across the floor. It slammed into the wall with a sharp crack that echoed through the apartment before settling into silence.

Every muscle in his body locked.

He hadn’t imagined it.

The sound had come from inside.

From the wall.

His flashlight swept wildly across the old bookshelf standing beside the hallway entrance. It was a cheap thing he’d bought online because it had been fifty dollars less than every other option. Half the shelves were crammed with manga and random novels he’d promised himself he’d read someday. The rest had slowly become a graveyard for unopened mail, spare charging cables, old controllers, and all the miscellaneous junk that never seemed to have a proper place.

Nothing moved.

Nothing looked out of place.

For one impossible second, he almost convinced himself he’d imagined the entire thing.

Then it came again.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Slow.

Measured.

Unmistakable.

From behind the bookshelf.

His stomach dropped.

The livestream exploded into chaos.

NightShiftRaccoon:

BRO MOVE

ChairPhilosopher:

WHY IS THE WALL TALKING

ExpiredCoupon:

I’M NEVER BUYING FURNITURE AGAIN

The messages blurred together so quickly that Kai couldn’t read most of them. He wasn’t really looking anymore anyway. His breathing had become so shallow that his chest barely rose.

”Luna...”

”I’m here.”

Her voice was calm, but he noticed something different almost immediately.

She was breathing faster.

Not panicking.

Trying very hard not to.

”Did...” His voice cracked before he could stop it. He swallowed and tried again. ”...Did you hear that?”

”Yes.”

No hesitation.

No attempt to reassure him.

Just the truth.

”It came from behind the bookshelf.”

”I know.”

Kai slowly lifted the flashlight, tracing every inch of the wall behind the shelf. There wasn’t a vent. No crawl space. No decorative panel. Nothing that suggested there should be empty space beyond it.

Just painted drywall.

The apartment intercom crackled to life.

Static hissed through the tiny speaker before a voice pushed its way through.

”Mr. Mercer?”

It sounded clearer than before.

”We’re with the police. We need you to open the door.”

Kai didn’t answer.

Instead, he looked down at Discord.

Luna was already typing.

The indicator blinked once.

Twice.

Then her message appeared.

Don’t answer yet.

He swallowed.

The intercom buzzed again.

”Mr. Mercer?”

This time it was a different voice.

”Can you hear us?”

Kai took a slow, unsteady breath and edged closer to the intercom, careful not to take his eyes off the bookshelf.

”I can hear you.”

”Good.”

The voice sounded calm. Professional.

”We’ve received multiple emergency calls regarding this apartment. We’d like you to unlock your front door.”

Kai hesitated.

”What are your badge numbers?”

Silence followed.

Not long.

Just long enough for two people to exchange a glance.

Then the first officer answered immediately.

”Officer Hernandez. Badge 4172.”

A second voice followed without hesitation.

”Officer Lewis. Badge 3829.”

Kai’s gaze drifted back to Discord.

Luna’s typing indicator appeared almost instantly.

Ask them what color your apartment door is.

He frowned.

Why?

Then the answer clicked.

If they were really standing outside...

They wouldn’t have to think.

Kai cleared his throat.

”What color is my front door?”

The reply came immediately.

”Dark blue.”

The second officer added, ”Scratched near the bottom right corner.”

Kai instinctively looked toward the entrance.

They were right.

The scrape had happened last winter after one of his neighbors tried dragging a broken washing machine through the hallway. The dent had annoyed him for weeks, but he’d never mentioned it on stream. Never posted about it. Never even complained online.

His shoulders relaxed.

Only a little.

”Luna.”

”I know.”

”I think they’re real.”

”I think so too.”

For the first time all night, the knot inside his chest loosened.

The fear hadn’t disappeared.

It had simply shifted into something quieter.

Something more manageable.

Then the tapping returned.

Not behind the bookshelf.

Above it.

Three slow knocks.

Higher this time.

Kai’s flashlight snapped upward, illuminating nothing except white paint and shadow.

The officers spoke again through the intercom.

”Mr. Mercer?”

”We’re going to need you to open the door.”

Kai looked toward the entrance.

Then back to the bookshelf.

His apartment suddenly felt like it was pulling him in two different directions.

Safety waited at the front door.

Answers waited behind him.

He hated that part of him still wanted those answers.

Even now.

Especially now.

Curiosity really was going to get him killed one day.

”Luna.”

”Mhm?”

”If I open the door...”

”Open it for the police.”

She paused before continuing.

”But don’t stop paying attention.”

Kai frowned.

”What do you mean?”

”I mean...”

Her voice grew quieter.

”...I don’t think tonight is only about getting into your apartment.”

Before he could ask what she meant, another sound drifted through the silence.

Not knocking.

A scrape.

A slow, rough sound.

Like wood dragging across concrete.

Every hair on the back of Kai’s neck stood up.

The bookshelf...

Moved.

Not much.

Less than an inch.

But it moved.

Kai stared at it, unable to blink.

It wasn’t wobbling.

It wasn’t settling under its own weight.

Something had pushed it.

From the other side.

The intercom crackled again.

”Mr. Mercer?”

”We need you to answer us.”

Kai couldn’t.

His flashlight remained fixed on the bookshelf.

The narrow gap between it and the wall had widened just enough to reveal darkness beyond it.

A space that shouldn’t have existed.

His apartment’s layout flashed through his mind.

Living room.

Hallway.

Neighbor’s apartment.

There wasn’t supposed to be empty space there.

Unless...

Unless the wall wasn’t actually a wall.

His heartbeat pounded so hard he could hear it in his ears.

Slowly...

Very slowly...

A folded piece of paper slid out from the darkness beneath the bookshelf.

No hand appeared.

No face emerged.

The paper simply glided across the floor until it came to a stop at Kai’s feet.

He stared at it without moving.

Written neatly across the front, in careful black handwriting, was a short message.

Four words.

Don’t let them in.
