Invincible Little School Doctor

Chapter 1039: Chapter 1038: It Turns Out I’m Just Being Sentimental! (3rd Update)

The phone rang. Ye Haochuan took out his cellphone, his eyes lingering for a moment on a string of unfamiliar numbers.

He answered the call, and immediately, a voice came through the receiver, polite to an extreme: ”Doctor Ye, sorry to bother you. I’m Zhang Zongyao. It’s been over a month since we last met at Haishan Hospital. You promised back then to treat my nephew in a month’s time, but we weren’t able to reach you via phone. I’m wondering if you’ve got the time now?”

Hearing this, Ye Haochuan slapped his forehead suddenly. Zhang Zongyao’s nephew, Zhang Jianhui, had been in a speeding car accident, sustaining total-body comminuted fractures, severe internal organ damage, and significant brain trauma.

Still, this guy’s character was utterly appalling. Back then, Ye decided to leave him unattended for a month intentionally. He’d only provided some cursory treatment to stabilize his condition, intending to deal with him later. However, with everything going on, he had truly forgotten about it.

Now, though, Ye was in the Imperial Capital, and the Allied Conference was about to start. He really didn’t have the capacity to split himself in two.

”President Zhang, it’s not that I don’t want to treat your nephew; it’s just that I’m really busy lately and no longer in Haishan. But rest assured, I already provided preliminary treatment for your nephew, stabilizing his condition. As long as no one meddles with what I’ve done, he’ll be fine. Once I’m done here, I’ll head over to treat him immediately.”

On the other end of the call, Zhang Zongyao felt his heart tremble at Ye’s words, as he looked at Zhang Jianhui lying in the hospital bed, rotting and festering, hovering on the edge between life and death. For a moment, he didn’t know what to do.

Zhang Zongyao sighed deeply: ”Doctor Ye, I must confess... More than half a month ago, seeing Jianhui’s condition seemingly improving, we took matters into our own hands and invited someone else to treat him...”

Before Zhang Zongyao could finish speaking, Ye Haochuan cut him off: ”And now the patient’s entire body is rotting and oozing pus, isn’t it? Haha, your Zhang Family sure has skills! If you don’t trust me, then why bother calling me? Go ahead and save him yourselves.”

Fury simmered in Ye Haochuan now. Patients were no trivial matter. He understood Zhang Jianhui’s condition well; as long as others refrained from interfering, he could have lasted even half a year without issue. But clearly, his family hadn’t taken him seriously at all. Frustrated, Ye felt a deep sense of helplessness.

”Doctor Ye, we didn’t really have a choice. Your phone wasn’t reachable for so long, and besides, you’d never explicitly told us not to touch the patient. To put it bluntly, Doctor Ye, you bear half the responsibility here.” Zhang Zongyao said.

”Haha, President Zhang, do you think your words align with your conscience?” Ye Haochuan retorted sarcastically.

”Doctor Ye, I apologize, but my nephew is in real danger now. The hospital staff here say he won’t survive past a week if he isn’t treated promptly.” Zhang Zongyao apologized again and added, ”By the way, Doctor Ye, where are you now? If you have time, we can immediately send a helicopter to pick you up.”

”Heh, quite the grand gesture. Well, I’m currently in the Imperial Capital...”

”The Imperial Capital? That’s perfect! My nephew was transferred to the Huaxia First People’s Hospital in the Imperial Capital half a month ago.” Zhang Zongyao exclaimed in surprise.

Ye Haochuan was also taken aback for a moment—he hadn’t expected Zhang Jianhui to have been transferred already. Reflecting on it, though, he realized it was his own actions that led to this situation. Not treating him now wouldn’t sit right. So, he said: ”Alright then, I’ll head over right away.”

Half an hour later, at the entrance to Huaxia First People’s Hospital, Ye Haochuan stepped out of the car, and Zhang Zongyao immediately greeted him, elated: ”Doctor Ye, you’re finally here! Please, you must save Jianhui!”

”Okay.”

Ye nodded, following Zhang Zongyao’s lead, and within minutes, they arrived outside a private ICU room.

Inside this room, more than ten doctors stood with tightly furrowed brows. On the hospital bed lay Zhang Jianhui, his eyes closed and his breathing weak. If not for the oxygen supporting him, he might have already met the Tathagata.

At this moment, Zhang Jianhui’s body resembled a toad—pus-filled ulcers festered across his skin, some ruptured and oozing, presenting an incredibly grotesque and nauseating sight.

Ye Haochuan frowned deeply. Zhang Jianhui’s current condition made even him feel the difficulty of the case.

Under perspective, Ye noticed pathological changes in Zhang Jianhui’s internal organs and bone marrow, leaving him speechless—this family’s approach to harming their own child had truly set new records.

”Everyone, make way—Doctor Ye is here.” Zhang Zongyao pushed through the crowd, bringing Ye Haochuan forward.

Ye Haochuan walked into the room like a focal point of attention. Many present frowned, looking at him with surprise—he was simply too young. Such a young man treating Zhang Jianhui? For now, doubt filled everyone’s minds.

”You’re Doctor Ye?” A man in his fifties turned toward Ye Haochuan and asked.

Hearing this, Ye Haochuan nodded and asked politely: ”Yes, that’s me. And you are?”

”Can you really cure Young Master Zhang?” The man didn’t answer Ye, instead, continuing his questioning.

Ye Haochuan’s face turned a little unpleasant: ”Do I need to answer you?”

”You...” The man huffed coldly: ”Is this all the professionalism Doctor Ye has?”

Ye Haochuan laughed—mockingly: ”Professionalism is reserved for people, not for you!”

*Pfft!*

The crowd couldn’t help but chuckle. That retort—it was downright savage.

This man’s name was Qiu Xiangwen, the Director of the Dermatology Department at Huaxia First People’s Hospital, with over 20 years of medical experience. Now, facing this brash young man claiming he could cure Zhang Jianhui’s condition, Qiu simply couldn’t believe it.

”You...” Qiu’s rage boiled over—wasn’t Ye implying he wasn’t even human? How could he not be furious?

Ignoring Qiu entirely, Ye strode toward the hospital bed. Around it, four foreigners meticulously examined Zhang Jianhui’s condition. Besides them stood a pair of tense parents staring at the patient.

The man was Zhang Hengyi, family head of the Zhangs in the Imperial Capital. The woman was Xia Lingqing.

Seeing Ye Haochuan and Zhang Zongyao approach, Zhang Hengyi froze briefly, his brows furrowing as he spoke in a harsh tone: ”Big Brother, this wouldn’t happen to be the Doctor Ye you mentioned, would it?”

”That’s right, Second Brother. He’s the Doctor Ye I met at Haishan Hospital. Without him, Jianhui would have little chance of surviving right now.” Zhang Zongyao nodded.

”Big Brother, no offense, but look at him—a young punk. How does he look like a divine doctor? Are you sure you weren’t conned by him?” Zhang Hengyi sneered disdainfully.

Ye Haochuan felt irritated—so they’d only trust him if he had a scraggly beard, a weathered face, and radiated an elder’s sense of gravitas? Medicine didn’t discriminate by age!

”Second Brother, he truly has the ability to cure Jianhui. You know as well as I do—Jianhui is the Zhang family’s sole male heir. He absolutely cannot be allowed to come to harm.” Zhang Zongyao said gravely.

But Zhang Hengyi still hesitated. Ye Haochuan was just too young—it was absurd to even associate someone like him with the title ”Divine Doctor.” Wasn’t this pure nonsense?

”Big Brother, I know you mean well for Jianhui. But he’s our only male heir—I can’t let some greenhorn punk treat him,” Zhang Hengyi shook his head. He couldn’t afford to take such a risk.

Turning to Ye Haochuan, Zhang Hengyi spoke coldly: ”I don’t know how you managed to deceive my big brother, but I’d like you to leave now!”

”Heh,” Ye Haochuan chuckled bitterly—so he’d misunderstood himself this whole time. ”Fine, I’ll leave right away. But just so you know, your son’s festering ulcers aren’t caused by bacterial infection. You absolutely shouldn’t administer any anti-toxin serum, or the consequences could be catastrophic!”

Seeing the foreign medical team preparing to inject anti-toxin serum into Zhang Jianhui, Ye Haochuan smirked, turned his back on the room, and walked out, not bothering to offer his expertise to a crowd unwilling to appreciate it.
