Ling Tian Sword God

Chapter 90: Chapter 89 ’Fire Demon’ Duan Guiyun_1

”No problem, I encountered a bit of a situation, but it’s already been dealt with.” Ling Chen shook his head. He couldn’t reveal anything about his encounter with Prince Tai, fearing it might invite endless trouble.

”I never thought that someone as trustworthy as you could resist the temptation of a treasure like the Earth Heart Fire Lotus,” Ling Chen shifted the topic, smiling calmly.

Although he had given Bai Susu the Earth Heart Fire Lotus based on his trust in her character, Ling Chen couldn’t be entirely certain. After all, even among Righteous Path Disciples, there were plenty of sanctimonious hypocrites whose actions contradicted their words. If Bai Susu had indeed run off with the Earth Heart Fire Lotus, Ling Chen wouldn’t have been surprised.

”I was just thinking, if you hadn’t shown up before sundown, I was preparing to take the items and run,” Bai Susu shot Ling Chen a look. Then, her expression turned serious as she retrieved a box and handed it to him. ”I’ve taken the lotus seed that is mine. There are precisely two remaining, no more, no less. See for yourself.”

”No need,” Ling Chen shook his head and discreetly stored the box in his Heavenly Mansion Ring.

Seeing Ling Chen’s action, Bai Susu’s beautiful eyes brightened for a moment before returning to their usual calmness. ”I believe the people from the Myriad Beasts Sect and the Black Market must be searching for us everywhere around here. This place isn’t suitable for a long stay; we should leave as quickly as possible.”

”Yes. We should leave now,” Ling Chen nodded. Bai Susu was right; they were both currently in the eye of the storm. If discovered by either of those groups, the consequences would be dire.

”Leaving? You just arrived, why are you thinking of leaving already? Why not stay and play with this old man for a while?”

Just as Ling Chen and Bai Susu were preparing to stand up, a sarcastic voice suddenly came from outside the inn.

Ling Chen’s gaze followed the sound. In his line of sight, four or five youths in red robes were walking towards them. Among them was a figure Ling Chen recognized.

It was Ouyang Lie, whom Ling Chen had eliminated during the mission screening.

But the one who spoke was another person, a hulking figure with conspicuous flaming red hair. He carried a Moon-Covering Blade on his back, his gaze like a torch, and his eyes revealed a ferocious aura.

This man is no ordinary person.

”Ling Chen, do you remember me?” Ouyang Lie stepped forward, a mocking smile playing on his lips.

”Of course, I remember. Ouyang Lie of the Fire Blade Sect. Shouldn’t you have left long ago?” Ling Chen frowned. He had a good idea of what was happening.

He had calculated that Lin Ya and Yang Hong wouldn’t have the spare energy to pursue him, but he had overlooked Ouyang Lie and his group.

This Ouyang Lie was so petty. After being eliminated during the mission screening, he had apparently been lying in wait here all this time, seeking an opportunity to take revenge.

”Leave? How could I leave before I’ve vented my anger?” Ouyang Lie’s eyes suddenly flashed with a cold light. ”You bastard, you deliberately snatched my Guest Qing Order, causing me to lose the qualification to participate in the mission. Fortunately, Heaven has eyes, and we’ve run into you again today!”

After speaking, he turned around and cupped his hands towards the red-haired youth carrying the Moon-Covering Blade. ”Senior Brother Duan Guiyun, this is the despicable villain I told you about, Ling Chen.”

Hearing the words ”despicable villain,” Ling Chen sighed inwardly. This Ouyang Lie must have really twisted the facts when he told Duan Guiyun.

Duan Guiyun... isn’t that the ’Fire Demon,’ a notorious figure in the Jianghu?

”Useless trash! Can’t even handle a brat like him? You’re a disgrace to our sect!” Duan Guiyun berated Ouyang Lie, then his tone shifted as he addressed Ling Chen, ”Kid, you injured a disciple of my Fire Blade Sect. Do you admit your crime?”

Ling Chen said nonchalantly, ”In the Martial World, strength reigns supreme. Your Junior Brother here simply wasn’t skilled enough. What has that got to do with me?”

”Well said, ’strength reigns supreme.’ So, if I beat you to death, there shouldn’t be a problem either, right?” Duan Guiyun said coldly, his eyes narrowing.

A mere First Layer Martial Master dares to boast so shamelessly before me?

Ordinary juniors would usually retreat in fear or even kneel and beg for mercy just at the mention of my title, ’Fire Demon’. Countless insignificant whelps like Ling Chen have died at my hands.

”If you truly have that ability, feel free to try,” Ling Chen sneered.

He had to admit, if he were up against top experts from the Heavenly List like Lin Ya or Yang Hong, he currently wouldn’t stand a chance. However, he wasn’t so weak that just anyone could step all over him. That mysterious woman in black had told him to maintain a heart of reverence, and rightly so, but it depended on who he was facing.

Against Duan Guiyun, a Fifth Stage Martial Artist, it wasn’t as if he had no chance of fighting back.

Duan Guiyun’s face flushed with anger. Ling Chen’s words showed absolutely no regard for him. Instantly, he laughed in extreme anger, ”Just you, spouting such arrogant nonsense? Today, I will cripple your cultivation in front of everyone and show the world the price for humiliating a disciple of my Fire Blade Sect!”

Seeing that a fight was about to break out, Bai Susu’s pretty face changed color. She spoke out to dissuade them, ”Senior Brother Duan Guiyun, this is all a misunderstanding. Please don’t resort to force!”

”Get out of the way!” Duan Guiyun’s icy gaze swept over Bai Susu. ”Irrelevant bystanders, get out of the way immediately, or you’ll be caught in the crossfire!”

”Get lost, Bai Susu! This is a duel between men! What’s a woman like you meddling for? If you don’t get out of the way, I’ll hit you too!” Ouyang Lie’s face was also incomparably cold.

”Ling Chen, so-called top genius of the Divine Intent Sect, still hiding behind a woman to save your skin? If you’re a man, then step out!”

Taking a heavy step forward, Duan Guiyun seemed to tread on a Wind Eye. An immense gust of wind erupted, carrying a biting aura that pressed down on Bai Susu and Ling Chen. Their clothes whipped about violently, and nearby tables and chairs were sent flying, smashing through the windows.

The nearby diners, terrified, fled the inn one after another.

”This place is too small to go all out. Let’s settle this outside the city.” A gleam flashed in Ling Chen’s eyes, and then he turned and dashed out of the inn.

Duan Guiyun sneered and, with a flicker of his body, moved. His speed was a sliver faster than Ling Chen’s.

”Follow them!” Ouyang Lie and the other disciples of the Fire Blade Sect also scrambled to follow.

”That Ling Chen... he’s too impulsive,” Bai Susu shook her head.

His opponent is the notoriously fierce ’Fire Demon’ Duan Guiyun, a dignified Fifth Stage Martial Artist. How could the current Ling Chen possibly be a match for him?

The outcome of this battle was obvious. Duan Guiyun would very likely be ruthless. If Ling Chen were defeated, he would likely lose his life.

Despite this, Bai Susu still drew her sword and walked out of the inn. They were friends, after all; she couldn’t just stand by and watch Ling Chen be killed.
