Astrid picked up a wooden sword and stood in front of me.

”Alright, little Gray.”

”Now we begin the real training.”

”Take out your sword.”

I didn’t question her.

Right now, she wasn’t my silly aunt.

She was my instructor.

I reached into my Space Storage, took out Eclipse, and unsheathed it.

Astrid nodded in satisfaction.

”Good.”

She lowered her stance and pointed the wooden sword toward me.

”Today, don’t think of me as your instructor.”

”We’re going to spar.”

”Your goal is simple.”

”Land a single strike on me.”

”And don’t worry.”

”I’ve already limited my physical strength to your level.”

She looked directly into my eyes.

”Think of me as your enemy.”

”If you keep practicing against wooden dummies forever, you’ll never truly improve.”

”The monsters inside a dungeon won’t stand still waiting for your attacks.”

She paused before a playful smile appeared on her face.

”You don’t plan on letting your sister protect you the entire way, do you?”

A chill instantly ran down my spine.

The image immediately appeared inside my head.

”Oh? Little brother, you can’t even defeat a tiny monster?”

”Move aside and let your amazing big sister handle it.”

”You’re still just a child compared to your amazing big sister.”

...

Knowing Amy...

She would definitely say something even worse.

I hurriedly shook my head and cleared those horrifying thoughts away.

No.

That absolutely couldn’t happen.

My determination to become stronger immediately increased.

Astrid watched my expression change from terrified to determined.

She chuckled softly.

”So that’s your answer.”

”Good.”

”Come at me with everything you’ve got.”

The moment those words left her mouth—

I burst forward.

My body shot toward her as I swung Eclipse in a clean horizontal slash.

Clack!

Astrid casually blocked it with her wooden sword before smoothly deflecting my attack away.

The entire time, my Dimensional Awareness remained active.

I saw everything.

The angle of her sword.

The timing.

The movement of her feet.

Yet...

My body couldn’t keep up with what my eyes perceived.

I couldn’t understand how she redirected my sword so effortlessly.

Still, I didn’t linger on it.

I immediately adjusted my footing and launched another strike with a cleaner sword arc.

This time...

Astrid didn’t even bother blocking.

She simply took a small step backward.

My blade sliced through empty air where she had been standing a moment earlier.

Before I could recover—

Bonk!

Her free hand lightly struck my forehead.

”You’re completely wide open, little Gray.”

”Ow...”

I rubbed my forehead while stepping back to regain my balance.

”That hurts.”

Astrid only smiled.

I attacked again.

And again.

Every exchange revealed another mistake.

Sometimes my footing was off.

Sometimes my sword arc was too wide.

Sometimes I recovered too slowly after attacking.

I noticed all of them...

Yet correcting every mistake at once was impossible.

So I focused on fixing only one thing at a time.

One exchange, I’d adjust my footwork.

The next, I’d improve the angle of my slash.

Then I’d observe how Astrid avoided my attacks.

Little by little...

My movements became smoother.

Realizing simple frontal attacks weren’t enough, I began changing my approach.

Sometimes I aimed for her legs.

Sometimes I altered my sword arc midway through the swing.

But I never attempted flashy techniques like stopping my sword halfway before changing directions.

My body simply wasn’t fast enough.

Doing that would only waste stamina and create even bigger openings.

So...

I stayed with the fundamentals.

Each strike carried purpose.

Each movement taught me something.

At one point, I began carefully observing Astrid’s swordsmanship through my perception skill.

Her movements were beautiful.

Simple.

Efficient.

Every swing flowed naturally into the next.

For a brief moment...

I tried copying her.

Only...

The more I copied...

The more awkward my own movements became.

It felt...

Wrong.

As if I were forcing someone else’s body onto my own.

Without hesitation...

I abandoned the idea.

Astrid raised an eyebrow.

”Oh?”

”What happened?”

”From what I observed, you were trying to imitate my movements.”

”But suddenly...”

”You stopped.”

I launched another attack while answering between breaths.

”Yeah...”

”I tried copying your sword style.”

”But...”

”I quickly realized it doesn’t suit me.”

”It only made my movements awkward.”

”So I stopped.”

Astrid effortlessly avoided another slash before asking,

”And why do you think that?”

I attacked again.

”When your sword comes toward me...”

”I can understand what you’re doing.”

”But...”

”When I try to recreate it...”

”It just doesn’t feel right.”

”I don’t really know why.”

”I can only feel that it doesn’t suit me.”

”So instead of copying your swordsmanship...”

”I decided to observe your attacks...”

”And create my own counters.”

Astrid smiled.

Then she suddenly stepped back.

”Stop.”

I immediately lowered Eclipse and began catching my breath.

Despite limiting her strength...

She hadn’t allowed me to touch her once.

Astrid nodded thoughtfully.

”That’s an interesting conclusion, little Gray.”

”And honestly...”

”It makes perfect sense.”

”My swordsmanship doesn’t suit you.”

She rested the wooden sword on her shoulder.

”I spent countless years fighting real battles.”

”My style was created specifically for me.”

”Every movement...”

”Every habit...”

”Every principle...”

”Was forged through my own experiences.”

She paused, giving me time to absorb her words.

Then she continued.

”But...”

”There’s one thing you’ve misunderstood.”

”This wasn’t swordsmanship training.”

I blinked.

She smiled.

”Yes.”

”You improved your swordsmanship during this spar.”

”But that’s not what I was testing.”

”I’m preparing you for your first dungeon.”

She pointed the wooden sword toward me again.

”In a real battle...”

”Use everything you’ve got.”

”Magic.”

”Swordsmanship.”

”Movement.”

”Strategy.”

”Anything.”

”Do whatever gives you the highest chance of winning.”

She looked directly into my eyes.

”Don’t limit yourself to being just a swordsman.”

”I know you’re far more capable than that.”

”I watched your eyes throughout our exchange.”

”You’ve been using your perception skill the entire time.”

”And every time you noticed a mistake...”

”You corrected it little by little.”

”That’s an excellent habit.”

”So continue doing that.”

”But...”

”Use your other abilities as well.”

”Think of me as your enemy.”

”Not your sword instructor.”

She lowered the wooden sword.

”Do you understand?”

Her words made me freeze for a moment.

She was right.

The entire spar...

I’d only been thinking like a swordsman.

Yet...

I wasn’t just a swordsman.

I had Ice.

Darkness.

Space.

I could create ice projectiles.

Blind my opponent with darkness.

Teleport attacks using space.

Why...

Had I ignored all of that?

I slowly nodded.

”...Yes.”

”I understand now.”

A satisfied smile appeared on Astrid’s face.

”Good.”

She raised her wooden sword once again.

”Then...”

”Come at me with everything you’ve got, little Gray.”
