Darkness.

That was all I could see.

Countless memories flowed through my mind like an endless river.

A lonely apartment.

A crowded classroom.

A birthday cake meant for one.

A speeding truck.

Then—

Another life.

A luxurious mansion.

Mother’s gentle embrace.

Amy’s endless teasing.

Sword lessons.

Magic.

Laughter.

Two completely different lives collided inside my mind, refusing to separate.

For a moment...

I couldn’t tell who I was.

Gray Starlight...

Or Leo Ashford.

”No...”

The word escaped my lips unconsciously.

”They’re both me.”

Slowly, the chaos began to settle.

The memories no longer fought against each other.

Instead, they intertwined, becoming one complete existence.

I finally understood.

I had never become someone else.

I had always been Gray Starlight.

The memories of Leo Ashford were not a replacement for who I was.

They were simply the memories of my previous life, buried deep within my soul until today.

And now...

They had awakened.

Along with everything I had experienced in that life.

I took a slow breath.

”My past...”

”My present...”

”They’re both part of me.”

The pain inside my head gradually faded.

The unbearable pressure disappeared.

Only then did I slowly open my eyes.

The familiar ceiling of my room entered my vision.

”...My room.”

Before I could think any further—

”Young Master!”

A maid standing beside my bed suddenly cried out.

”Young Master is awake!”

Before I could respond, she quickly rushed out of the room.

The hallway immediately became chaotic.

Rushing footsteps echoed throughout the mansion.

Several maids hurried past the doorway.

”Inform Lady Seraphina!”

”Call Young Miss immediately!”

”Hurry!”

I blinked in confusion.

”...Was I unconscious for that long?”

Only a few seconds later—

The bedroom door burst open.

”Gray!”

A familiar figure rushed toward me.

Amy.

Before I could react, she wrapped her arms around me tightly, almost squeezing the air from my lungs.

”Thank goodness...”

”Thank goodness you’re awake...”

Her voice trembled.

When I looked at her face, I froze.

Her eyes were slightly red.

Had she been crying?

I slowly raised my hand and awkwardly patted her back.

”I’m okay...”

”I only had a strange headache.”

She pulled back and glared at me.

”Don’t ever scare me like that again!”

”I thought...”

She stopped herself.

Instead, she hugged me again.

This time, much more gently.

A few moments later, another pair of footsteps entered the room.

Mother.

Seraphina Starlight.

Unlike Amy, she walked calmly toward the bed.

Her expression remained composed, just like always.

To anyone else...

She would appear completely emotionless.

But after living with her for years...

I noticed the small details.

The slight tension in her shoulders.

The exhaustion hidden beneath her calm eyes.

She had been worried.

Very worried.

Mother stopped beside my bed.

”How do you feel?”

Her voice was as calm as ever.

”My head hurts a little.”

”But I’m alright now.”

She carefully studied my expression for several seconds.

Only after confirming I was truly awake did she quietly release a breath of relief.

Then she placed her hand gently on my head.

”...Good.”

Just one word.

Yet somehow...

I could feel how much meaning it carried.

Amy was still holding onto my arm as if she was afraid I might disappear again.

Looking at the two of them...

A warmth spread through my chest.

In my previous life...

No one had ever worried about me like this.

But now...

I had people who truly cared.

People who stayed beside my bed while I was unconscious.

People who rushed here the moment they heard I had awakened.

Without realizing it, a genuine smile appeared on my face.

”I’m sorry for worrying you.”

Mother gently shook her head.

”As long as you’re safe...”

”Nothing else matters.”

Amy immediately nodded.

”Exactly!”

”You’ve been unconscious for two days!”

”I was so worried!”

Seeing their concerned expressions, I silently made a promise.

No matter what happened in the future...

I would protect this family’s happiness.

Even if it cost me everything.

I would never allow anyone to take them away from me.

Just as they protected me...

I would protect them.

That was the vow I engraved into my heart.

Although countless memories from my previous life remained inside my mind, I pushed them aside for now.

Mother and Amy were standing before me.

The last thing I wanted was for them to worry because I was struggling with my own memories.

After making sure I was truly awake, Mother looked at me.

”Gray.”

”Do you remember what happened?”

”How did you suddenly collapse?”

I thought for a moment before answering honestly.

”I don’t remember everything clearly, Mother.”

”I was walking through the mansion when suddenly I felt an unbearable headache, like my head was about to split apart.”

”After that...”

”Everything went black.”

I gently touched my forehead.

”My memories are still a little fuzzy, but other than that, I feel completely fine.”

Mother quietly studied me.

Her crimson eyes carefully searched my face.

Not with suspicion...

But with a mother’s concern.

After several seconds, the tension in her expression finally eased.

She had countless possibilities flash through her mind when she learned I had collapsed.

Poison.

A hidden attack.

An unknown curse.

As the heir of the Starlight family, I already had enemies who would rather eliminate me before I grew stronger.

But fortunately...

The boy sitting before her was still the same Gray she knew.

Still smiling.

Still safe.

And that was enough.

Mother looked at me gently.

”Alright.”

”You haven’t eaten anything for two days.”

”You must be starving.”

Then she turned toward Amy.

”Amy.”

”How about you eat lunch with your brother today?”

”His condition is still not completely stable, so I want him to rest.”

She smiled faintly.

”Besides, eating alone is never enjoyable.”

”I’ve noticed something over the years.”

”When Gray eats with his family, he always finishes his meal.”

”But when he eats alone, he barely touches his food.”

”So keep him company today.”

The moment Amy heard that, her ruby eyes lit up.

A bright smile appeared on her face.

”Okay, Mom!”

”I wanted to eat with Gray anyway!”

”I’ll tell the maids to prepare everything!”

Without waiting for a response, she happily rushed out of the room.

Watching her leave, Mother couldn’t help but smile softly.

After Amy left, Mother looked back at me.

”After you eat, get some rest.”

”I’ve already summoned Evelyn.”

”I want her to examine you personally.”

”It will help me feel at ease knowing you’re truly alright.”

I smiled.

”Okay, Mom.”

”And...”

”Thank you.”

She gently nodded.

Then she gave me one last reassuring look before leaving the room.

The moment I was alone...

I stopped holding back.

The memories I had been suppressing slowly surged forward.

Like a dam breaking.

I didn’t resist.

I accepted them.

Because if I continued pushing them away...

I didn’t know what would happen.

One by one, fragments of my previous life resurfaced.

Faces I had forgotten.

Moments I had buried.

A life that once felt distant slowly became real again.

And then—

Everything returned.

Completely.

The memories of Leo Ashford merged fully with my current self.

My breathing stopped.

My eyes widened slightly.

”...So this is what I was missing.”

Everything I had learned.

Everything I had experienced.

Everything I had lost.

It all returned.

And what I discovered from those memories...

Shocked me to my core.
