Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 343: Chapter 189: Eerie Buddha Statue (Part 2)

Chu Xiu ignored it and began ordering the ghost team to advance, focusing on exploring the inside of the cave.

Unexpectedly, those golden corrupted inhabitants did not attack him, as if they were completely unaware of their existence.

This unusual scene made a vague foreboding rise in his heart.

And the farther he went, the more obvious this foreboding became.

Pale golden threads, resembling fungal hyphae, began to appear on the ground and the surrounding rock walls, becoming denser as the team advanced. Simultaneously, the jagged rock walls gradually grew more even, which gave Chu Xiu a strange feeling as if the cave before him was turning into a palace made of gold.

But what was bizarre was that Chu Xiu didn’t feel any sense of ”magnificence” or ”awe,” but rather, the further he walked, the more he felt the chill, which was not a psychological illusion but a substantial feeling.

”Ghosts are originally composed of Yin Qi, even they feel the chill...”

Chu Xiu’s expression inevitably grew more serious, becoming more vigilant.

Yet he continued to move forward, but at this moment, suddenly, three grand bell tolls resonated from deep within the cave.

”Dong—Dong—Dong—”

This bell sound was no different from the ones in a temple, but instead of clearing the mind, when Chu Xiu heard it, countless chaotic whispers filled his ears. These whispers were of old and young, women and men, and even bizarre wails that were neither beast nor human, causing his mind to be restless.

This startled Chu Xiu, who hurriedly activated his divine sense to protect his spirit platform, and those strange whispers gradually faded away.

”This is [Pollution], unexpectedly, that Calamity’s [Pollution] is strong enough to influence me through the subtle connections between me and the ghost creatures.”

”As expected of an upper-level being, indeed it has some means.”

But fortunately, ghosts themselves are beings of extreme Yin, possessing strong resistance to this [Pollution], and the Ghost General can further condense the Fierce Ghost’s power to counteract the [Pollution]’s effects.

So the ghost team was enough to continue advancing.

Walking forward for several miles, the number of corrupted inhabitants further increased, and a new kind of behavior appeared among them.

These corrupted inhabitants crawled on the ground, kneeling towards the depths of the cave, seemingly praying sincerely, and through their faces covered by pale golden rocks, an incomparably devout expression could be seen. Even when ghosts passed by them, they remained motionless.

The golden glow of the rocks on these crawling corrupted inhabitants was also deeper than that on the others, and the further he went, the more the rocks became enveloped in gold.

”Tsk, this is getting more and more damn eerie.”

This scene made Chu Xiu silently retreat several hundred meters.

But just then, Chu Xiu suddenly halted, an expression of shock involuntarily appeared on his face. At the same time, the Ghost General he was attached to also stopped in its tracks.

After turning a corner, at the end of the cave, there appeared an enormous Buddha statue.

The Buddha sat cross-legged, yet still a hundred meters high, exuding a faint golden glow, with a compassionate smile on its face.

At that moment, countless golden threads flowed out from beneath the Buddha’s seat, extending outward from the cave, looking extremely miraculous, like a God bringing light to the world.

But strangely, half of this Buddha’s body was embedded in the mountain, and there were over a dozen chains piercing through its body, fixing it firmly like a prisoner.

Chu Xiu also noticed its skin, although golden, didn’t seem as smooth as a regular Buddha statue. It appeared uneven, with faint cracks visible.

Just as Chu Xiu was closely observing the Buddha statue in front of him, suddenly, something caught the corner of his eye — the Buddha’s mouth seemed to move ever so slightly!

Although very subtle, Chu Xiu still keenly captured this detail, his heart tightening! Instantly, all the ghosts entered a combat state!

However, after waiting for over ten seconds, nothing happened, as if what he saw was merely an illusion.

This only made him even more reluctant to act rashly.

Chu Xiu asked Rasputin, but this guy hadn’t heard of anything so bizarre, as blood demons and Buddha statues could never relate.

But what was undeniable was that the scene before him didn’t match Chu Xiu’s previous speculation, such as experiencing some mutation.

”Could it be that Calamity was right?”

”Should I wait for Qin Xiang and other King Tier beings to arrive before proceeding?” Chu Xiu muttered to himself.

Although this would sharply reduce his gains, it was indeed much safer. He wasn’t a stubborn person; the scene before him exceeded his understanding. With new information, he would naturally adjust his plans flexibly.

But just as he was pondering, suddenly, the Buddha statue moved again!

Its originally forward-looking golden eyes suddenly and eerily glanced downward, towards where Chu Xiu was!

Though the deviation was minuscule, Chu Xiu was sure he didn’t see it wrong this time because he had been highly focused since earlier, constantly watching the Buddha statue’s every move!

This caused Chu Xiu’s hair to stand on end instantly!

Even if its pupils didn’t precisely target Chu Xiu but deviated a few degrees downward, Chu Xiu still felt like he was being watched by an existence!

”Something’s off, extremely off!”
