Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 330: Chapter 185: The Perfect Ambush Spot

The distance between the Fifth Layer and the Sixth Layer was nearly thirty meters, considerably more than between other layers.

Initially, Chu Xiu didn’t understand why, but upon seeing the vast planting fields before him, he realized the reason.

The barren fields showed not a hint of green, resembling the cracked earth of a drought year, with a thick ceiling overhead that looked like compartmentalized beehives, seemingly designed to mimic weather and lighting.

As Chu Xiu swept his Divine Sense over the scene, a faint smile appeared on his face.

Without hesitation, he strode forward.

”Be careful, this is a perfect spot for an ambush,” Zhang Qingshan cautioned, frowning as if sensing something amiss. He warned while vigilantly observing the surroundings.

This is the kind of wide-open space that best exploits the advantage of numbers, allowing Corrupted creatures to attack simultaneously from all directions.

As the saying goes, ”one man guarding the pass, ten thousand cannot pass,” but in an open space, no matter how strong a General, it would be impossible to fend off an assault by hundreds.

As it stands, if the underground Calamity wants to ambush them, now would be the best opportunity.

”Captain, let your Summoned Creatures scout ahead,” Guan Ke suggested.

Her Mechanical creations had been depleted in the previous battles.

However, Chu Xiu merely waved his hand lightly: ”There’s no need for that.”

With that, he continued moving forward.

This action caused Zhang Qingshan and Guan Ke to feel numb with anxiety, as they couldn’t help but wonder whether the man before them was exceptionally talented or favored by fate to achieve such accomplishments with such a reckless demeanor!

Could it be that the Dark Night Monarch is not the prodigy with unrivaled Talent and character he’s believed to be but merely a reckless gambler who has never known defeat?

The two mumbled internally yet still executed their duty diligently by scouting ahead.

The further they proceeded, the more tense they became.

Because this place... it was just too fitting for an ambush!

This area contained many waterways used for irrigating the fields, and with just a glance, dozens could be seen. The presence of Corrupted creatures concealed behind them could mean dozens of points for troops to erupt from!

The Corrupted creatures could congregate much faster than they did at the previous defensive stronghold! Moreover, their density would be significantly reduced, making it difficult for everyone’s wide-scale Skills to inflict effective damage.

”I estimate that only a hundred thousand... no, just fifty thousand would be enough to wear us down to death!”

”Also, the Corrupted creatures here are likely to be Advanced elites, unlike the cannon fodder disturbing us on the Earth Surface.”

Zhang Qingshan and Guan Ke both realized this simultaneously, their expressions serious.

The two exchanged a glance, both seeing the determination in the other’s eyes.

They could not proceed any further! Not even if the Dark Night Monarch insisted!

”Captain, I...”

Zhang Qingshan opened his mouth, but before finishing, an arm suddenly shot up from the ground, grabbing his ankle!

In the next instant, a dagger gleaming with cold light plunged toward his calf!

”Clang!”

The Shield formed by Dragon Soul blocked the strike, and Zhang Qingshan looked down to see a Corrupted creature had somehow emerged from the soil!

This Corrupted creature had reached Warrior Tier, appearing to be of a specially enhanced type. Its body was covered in Rock Armor, akin to scales, perfectly camouflaging it in the soil, and it possessed great strength!

Zhang Qingshan shouted in anger, his left arm transforming into an Energy construct from the Dragon Soul, striking down forcefully, causing the Corrupted creature’s head to compress and burst like a water balloon!

”Bang!”

The burst brain matter and shattered bone fragments splattered in all directions, but before he could catch a breath, four more Corrupted creatures leaped out from the surroundings!

At the same time, muffled ”thuds” were heard as figures erupted from the soil, rushing toward the small squad!

”Clang clang clang!”

The team reacted swiftly, making an immediate response. The six mechanical arms on Guan Ke’s back extended swiftly, blocking the attacks aimed at him, while Su Jinyu quickly cast a series of Runes, causing Rune Pillars to rise from the earth, projecting white-hot Thunderbolt all around.

As for Chu Xiu, he stood calmly in place, unmoved, as a Corrupted creature swung a longsword at his neck, only for a crisp snapping sound to ring out as the sharp blade broke into two upon contact with Chu Xiu’s neck, leaving not a single mark on his skin.

In the Corrupted creature’s bewildered gaze, a bolt of lightning struck its chest, sending it flying far off into the distance.

”Is this the best you can do? Give me a bigger surprise,” Chu Xiu said with a hint of disappointment, shaking his head.

As if answering his murmured thoughts, the ceiling used to simulate weather overhead suddenly slid open, releasing an avalanche of Corrupted creatures from the sky!

The other three beside Chu Xiu all displayed expressions of shock!

The honeycomb-like ceiling tiles were like containers stuffed with Corrupted creatures, which, once opened, caused an immediate downpour of these creatures over the entire field!

In just one second, thousands of Corrupted creatures rained down, with more continuously descending!

The vast numbers of Corrupted residents had all been stored here!

”Ahhh!!! I knew it!!!”

Guan Ke shrieked in terror but swiftly knocked away a Corrupted creature descending upon her, while deftly activating the Mechanical Mountain’s exclusive Skill, [Defense Barrier].
