Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 313: Chapter 179: Calamity’s Proposal (Part 3)

”Is reproduction truly meaningful even though it’s an inherent instinct of life?”

”If we view a species as an individual entity, then reproduction is tantamount to extending that entity’s life. But even with infinite lifespan, if one cannot accomplish anything in that infinite life, does such life hold any meaning?”

Chu Xiu was thoroughly impatient: ”I said I’m not interested in insect life, and I certainly don’t want to discuss philosophy with some chaotic, indistinguishable entity.”

”Say another word of nonsense, and I’ll directly end this illusion realm.”

”What I want to say is that any place devoured by the Abyss is like this,” Calamity’s thoughts echoed, ”In the place where I live, there are a large number of corrupted creatures, among which quite a few have reached Warrior Tier, Fierce Tier, and even General Tier. Outside, they are strong enough to be the attendants of powerful Lords, or influential heroes commanding respect.”

”But after being devoured, they all lost their free will. Their sole purpose of existence became just that—existence itself. I’m no exception.”

”Under such circumstances, time loses its meaning. Different regions having different time flows is common in the Abyss, because no matter how long time passes, nothing changes. Perhaps you find the millions of corrupted creatures and the bottomless pit shocking, but in reality, we’re merely moving along a predetermined path, unable to make any changes and ultimately destined to our end.”

”But the arrival of outsiders can break all of this, allowing us to briefly surface from the mire of the Abyss.”

”So, aren’t you then grateful to us?” Chu Xiu found it somewhat amusing.

Calamity’s words reminded him of something Su Jinyu had previously mentioned, although she only briefly touched upon it at the time. Now, Chu Xiu had a clearer understanding.

”I am grateful to you, but if I want to completely escape from the Abyss, I have to fight against you,” Calamity continued.

”Awakened see us as upgrade fodder, and we must devour everything to use that force to break free. You won’t willingly give up this world, and I won’t sit idly by. It is an unavoidable deadlock.”

”In that case, is there even a need for cooperation?” Chu Xiu asked.

Calamity laughed again: ”It’s simple. The deadlock is from an overall perspective, but it may not necessarily apply between you and me.”

”Help me gather sufficient power, surrender this world to me, and I’ll give you returns far beyond what you would normally gain. Cause and Effect Points? Is three hundred thousand enough? Legendary Equipment? Do you want three pieces or five?”

”I know you’re not someone who cares about the lives of others, right? Anyway, you Awakened can go to other worlds, giving one to me isn’t something unacceptable, is it?”

Calamity’s words indeed made Chu Xiu show a contemplative expression.

According to the normal course, even if he successfully eliminated Calamity, it would still be difficult for him to seize many good things from under the hands of the four King Tier.

Most King Tier Awakened have already formed a mature combat morphology; attack, defense, agility, control, all optimized to perfection. Their combat power is entirely at another level compared to ordinary King Tier creatures.

Moreover, those who can reach King Tier are essentially A-level or higher Awakened with strong talent and abundant combat experience, making cross-tier battles extremely challenging, especially since those four are not even Low Tier King Tier—they’ve remained at King Tier for at least five years.

Chu Xiu had never fought enemies of this caliber before, and while he believed his foundation attributes wouldn’t fall short by much, he wasn’t the only one with High Tier inheritance. King Tier Awakening entities typically possess troublesome special skills, making it hard for Chu Xiu to assume he could benefit.

Calamity pressed the advantage: ”And I can make a vow that even after I grow stronger, I’ll preserve your [Anchor Point], destroying only others’, turning this world into a private playground for you and me, allowing us to reap all its resources.”

”Isn’t this proposal lucrative enough?”

Chu Xiu said nothing, simply standing there, silently contemplating as Calamity watched him expectantly.

However, in the next moment, he caught the disdainful mockery in Chu Xiu’s eyes.

A massive divine sense surged wildly from within Chu Xiu’s body, sweeping outwards like countless heavy hammers, shattering the illusion realm into countless fragments under the impact.

”You... why!!!” A bewildered roar from the depths of the illusion realm quickly turning into rage.

”You Holy Mother fool! Did you think you were my only option?”

”If you don’t agree, someone else will!”

”After you’re backstabbed by your companions, I’ll personally relish in your regretful and despairing expression!”

Amidst Calamity’s roar, the illusion realm fully shattered, leaving Chu Xiu’s calm figure standing where he was.

”Just now... was I called a Holy Mother?”

”Did it think I didn’t agree because of moral reasons?”

Chu Xiu found it somewhat amusing, as it was his first time being called a Holy Mother.

And his reason for rejecting Calamity was quite simple.

Chu Xiu’s growth far surpassed everyone else’s.

By now, you must know, he had only become Awakened for less than two months!

The terrifying rate of strength improvement causes opponents on par with Chu Xiu to be left far behind within a couple of weeks.

”Share the Corpse Demon World with you? No, I want all your wealth, flesh, soul, and the entire Corpse Demon World for myself!”

He had no interest in letting even the slightest benefit slip through his fingers.

Of course, a more important reason for Chu Xiu’s decision was that collaboration with an upper-level being like Calamity, due to asymmetrical information, could easily lead to pitfalls. For instance, Chu Xiu had just learned about the Abyss-related intelligence.

It’s possible that once the other party crosses a certain threshold or fulfills certain conditions, their strength could suddenly soar, catching Chu Xiu completely off guard.

He was certain the opponent wasn’t someone with contractual integrity and would be quick to turn the tables when the situation reversed.

In such a scenario, it’s wiser to stick with humanity, steadily growing within the established order.

”As long as I continue upgrading steadily, I can realize my potential. Why invite long-term instability for a momentary trivial gain?”

Therefore, Chu Xiu had never intended to cooperate, only listening out of interest in gathering more intelligence.

”However... that guy’s last words do ring true to some extent; vigilance is necessary.”

Due to his exceptional potential, Chu Xiu wouldn’t ally with it, but other people were different. As Qin Xiang said, those few King Tier trapped under Heroic Spirit might take the risk.

”Ultimately, having overwhelming power over others is key!”

Chu Xiu exhaled slowly, casting several techniques, instantly accelerating the refinement of both the Soul Banner and the Spirit and Flesh Storage Pouch.

Then, he focused his attention on the inheritance of [Burning Blood Golden Eyes].
