Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 258: Chapter 160: Colonel

In less than five minutes, the noisy forest returned to tranquility.

It was even quieter than before, not even a bird call could be heard.

And Chu Xiu’s Fierce Soul Banner became increasingly vivid, as if it had devoured the entire forest’s life force as nourishment.

He could feel that an exceedingly powerful life was about to be born from it.

But, it was still lacking a little.

When Chu Xiu finished refining all the Corrupted Soldiers and leisurely flew back, Su Jinyu’s expression had already turned extremely peculiar.

She initially thought Chu Xiu retreated earlier because he was wary of Huang Guohua’s strength, after all, a ”Summoning Profession” like his was indeed at a natural disadvantage against strong single-target professions.

But now it seemed that wasn’t the case at all. Chu Xiu’s displayed melee ability was not inferior to Huang Guohua’s! It might even be stronger! At least in terms of performance, it appeared much more brutal!

This shattered Su Jinyu’s worldview.

An Awakened of the Fierce Tier stronger than a Level 9 General Tier veteran Martial Artist, and even a Summoning Profession! Does that even make sense?

If she knew that Chu Xiu was only Level 3 in the Fierce Tier, her already crumbling worldview might collapse entirely.

She opened her mouth as if she had many questions, but in the end, she didn’t ask anything, swallowing back the words she wanted to say.

However, Chu Xiu took the initiative to answer her doubts: ”I stayed aloft earlier because I had intel that an extremely powerful Corrupted creature had crawled out from the bottom of the pit, referred to as ’Colonel’ by the Corrupted Awakened.”

”To guard against it, I kept patrolling from above.”

He thought highly of this girl, feeling her mind and knowledge might bring unexpected assistance to him, so since she shared everything about her situation without reservation, he cheerfully shared what he knew.

”I see,” Su Jinyu revealed a dawning expression, but then another doubt appeared: ”Then why are you no longer afraid now?”

Chu Xiu displayed a sly grin: ”If I were that underground Calamity, I would definitely send the strongest force to eliminate the most difficult enemy and retrieve the hardest-to-retrieve Pollutants.”

Upon hearing this, Su Jinyu instantly understood, deeply looking at Chu Xiu.

It turned out that the reason Chu Xiu let Xue Li and others go wasn’t because he feared their power, but he was using them as bait!

To the Calamity, which could perceive the existence of the Pollutants, the one carried by multiple powerful Awakened and swiftly moving away was undoubtedly the top priority!

He questioned who held the Pollutants earlier just to confirm this!

As for Chu Xiu’s actions, Su Jinyu didn’t find them objectionable. She just played the good person, but wasn’t truly one.

Besides, these were merely Chu Xiu’s speculations.

However, little did she know, it wasn’t just a guess on Chu Xiu’s part, but he was quite certain.

When he directed the monstrous bird to land, his Divine Sense had already detected the so-called ”Colonel.”

After advancing to Level 3 Fierce Tier, the range of his Divine Sense expanded to nearly a hundred and fifty meters. As an S-Class Talent, Divine Sense possesses an extremely powerful detection ability, like a 3D scan, capturing every single movement within its range, even mosquitoes could be sensed.

Except for some like the previously shadow-integrated special Concealing Skill, few could dodge the detection by Divine Sense.

And that ”Colonel” was about a hundred meters away from everyone.

It was a humanoid creature about 1.75 meters tall. Although it tried hard to restrain its aura, Chu Xiu could still feel the vast power within it, far stronger than any Corrupted Awakened!

Although Chu Xiu showed no reaction on his face at that time, he was already so scared that he almost fled immediately.

However, he quickly realized that the Colonel had no intention of attacking, just silently observing everyone nearby.

This made Chu Xiu very curious, but after some careful thought, he understood.

The Colonel didn’t make a move, probably to avoid startling others.

He wasn’t certain who had the Pollutants, though he could kill one person instantly with his power, he didn’t have the assurance of annihilating everyone, especially with Chu Xiu who had a flying mount.

If Chu Xiu guessed correctly, the Colonel should have arrived near the battlefield early, possibly during the earlier siege by Corrupted Awakened.

It’s just that Chu Xiu had been cautiously flying above, so the Colonel feared startling him into fleeing, hence hadn’t made a move.

This discovery sent a cold sweat down Chu Xiu’s back, thinking it lucky he was cautious enough, otherwise, he might have been severely injured the moment he descended!

Once he understood this, the subsequent matters became simple.

Through the earlier fights, he discovered that Corrupted Awakened could communicate, so he pointed out that the Pollutants were on Huang Guohua by discussing the rewards.

It was not the ”confirmation” Su Jinyu imagined, but a preemptively planned ”framing.”

He then left without delay, and as expected, the ”Colonel” didn’t pay attention to his departure but immediately followed the others.

This was the reason Chu Xiu acted without scruples.

”So what’s next...”

”Is to level up well while the enemy is away on a hunt!”
