Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 252: Chapter 158: Calamity

Under Chu Xiu’s perception, the soul body of the Fierce Ghost transformed from the Blood Angels was swelling at a speed visible to the naked eye and becoming more solid and stable.

But unfortunately, after reaching a certain limit, no matter how many Life Souls it devoured, its body no longer showed any growth, just like an athlete who had already trained their muscles to the limit.

”Still missing a breath.”

Chu Xiu regretfully shook his head.

However, this was to be expected. If merely ten thousand ordinary Life Souls could give birth to a Ghost General, Demon Sect cultivators would have unified the world long ago.

Moreover, he could sense that the inability to ascend to Ghost General wasn’t solely a problem with the Fierce Ghost transformed from the Blood Angels.

At the final moment of ascension, the Fierce Ghost’s body had already reached its limit, making it extremely difficult to break through on its own, so the Fierce Ghost began to absorb the power of other Fierce Ghosts.

It’s just that the absorbed power was too little, insufficient for it to advance.

Chu Xiu gained some insight.

”Ghost General, Ghost General, without soldiers, how can there be a General?”

”To upgrade a ghost from zero to the Tier of Ghost General is extremely difficult. Forget ten thousand Life Souls, even a hundred thousand, or even a million, might not be enough!”

”The true strength of the Blood Evil Soul Banner should lie in gathering the entire strength of all the ghosts in the Soul Banner to help one ghost break through! This is where its mystery lies! Otherwise, if it merely housed ghosts, it would be no different from ordinary Demon Inheritance.”

”Right now, the overall elite level of the ghosts, especially the average Level of the Fierce Ghosts, isn’t high enough, so I can’t stack up a Ghost General.”

After figuring out the crux, with new insights, the feeling of disappointment in Chu Xiu’s heart diminished considerably.

Being able to own a hundred Fierce Ghosts had already significantly increased his strength, and next, he only needed to relentlessly kill Abyss creatures, refining their souls and flesh to slowly upgrade.

Chu Xiu didn’t think much more about it, put away the Fierce Soul Banner, and commanded the Four-winged Strange Bird to slowly descend.

Below, other Awakened ones were discussing something with solemn expressions.

Seeing Chu Xiu descend, everyone thanked him again.

However, Chu Xiu keenly noticed that Xue Li and Liu Feng seemed to hold an imperceptible trace of discontent towards him.

Probably thinking he arrived too late, causing them to lose many life-saving artifacts in vain, but naturally, they were not foolish enough to show it.

Chu Xiu didn’t pursue it, just said, ”There’s no need for thanks, do you all remember the rewards you promised earlier?”

At these words, the expressions of those present immediately became a bit strange. They looked at each other, and no one spoke first.

After a while, the captain of Fang Team gritted his teeth and reluctantly tossed a large cluster of blue light: ”Here are six thousand Cause and Effect Points. This is all our team has, five thousand of which were just acquired. I hope you can give us more time to repay the remaining four thousand Cause and Effect Points once we’ve earned them.”

”If you’re in a hurry, we can use our artifacts and equipment to settle the debt.”

It was clear that the five members of Fang Team were quite reluctant, but since the captain had spoken, they had no objections.

Chu Xiu looked somewhat unexpectedly at the stout man leading them, surprised they were quite creditworthy.

If they really wanted to evade, there were still plenty of excuses to use, like saying Cause and Effect Points couldn’t be traded or something.

He seemed to be Zhao Yinwu, whose Professional Talent wasn’t obvious, but he should be an A-Tier melee, a decent fighting force that, combined with the team, could match an advanced General Tier’s strength.

Chu Xiu didn’t trouble them, just said: ”Give it to me once you’ve earned enough.”

To him, artifacts and equipment were useless; only Cause and Effect Points mattered.

Then Chu Xiu turned to Liu Feng: ”You promised a piece of [Legend] Equipment earlier, correct?”

At this, Liu Feng’s expression looked even uglier, and after a long while, he reluctantly nodded.

Yet he continued: ”But I do not have it with me; if you want it, Chen, please come to the Third Research Institute to find me.”

Hearing this, Chu Xiu frowned, knowing the other was unwilling, beginning to make excuses. If it really was [Legend] Equipment, how could it not be in the Storage Space?

He couldn’t be bothered to argue, just said: ”Then exchange it for Cause and Effect Points and other equipment.”

But Liu Feng still shook his head: ”Cause and Effect Points are not allowed to be traded. Even though no one oversees it in the Abyss, I don’t wish to leave behind evidence.”

”Furthermore, since we agreed on [Legend] Equipment, it’s not reasonable to use something else instead, is it?”

Everyone understood that this sly person intended to renege.

Before Chu Xiu could continue, the elder responsible for protecting Xue Li spoke: ”I must speak fairly; this time, we could escape all thanks to my young master’s life-saving artifact. Chen, although we’re grateful you came to our aid, you only acted after things were settled and still expect the promised rewards. Isn’t that unreasonable?”

Xue Li had previously promised a substantial reward, and now the elder was clearly siding with Liu Feng.

”So——” Chu Xiu’s eyes narrowed dangerously, ”You all intend to default on the debt?”

”We won’t go back on our word, but I have said before, Chen, you didn’t act timely, causing my young master to squander a life-saving artifact; shouldn’t we address this account?” The elder glared back without fear.
