Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 220: Chapter 147: The Power of Civilization (Part 2)

Qin Xiang continued: ”So our battle with the Abyss, as Chen you mentioned, is indeed focused on the physical level, but this does not mean that civilization is useless.”

”Firstly, the enhancement of civilization can increase the ability to resist ’pollution.’”

”Take the Corpse Demon World you experienced, for example. In the beginning, humans could resist pollution, and even build refuge cities, but as civilization gradually fades, the remaining people become increasingly susceptible to pollution, leading to an irreversible vicious cycle.”

Qin Xiang’s words gave Chu Xiu some understanding.

The human Spirit is both strong and fragile; strong enough that even a frail woman would dare to risk her life fighting a beast to protect her children, yet fragile enough to develop all sorts of peculiar mental illnesses, like depression, mania, schizophrenia, hallucinations when under long-term stress.

Saying this, Chu Xiu suddenly realized that lately, there had been news about mentally ill people going on killing sprees and causing trouble, with crime rates rising annually.

He originally thought it was due to the accumulation of social pressure, but now it seems that perhaps the pollution of the Abyss has already begun.

”And even without mentioning pollution, the ignition of the flame of civilization will also enhance human overall Power.” Qin Xiang continued.

”Let me give you an example, have you heard of the ’Transcendent Evolution World’?”

Chu Xiu nodded.

He had not studied this world in depth, but he could feel that it had permeated various aspects of the Blue Star World.

For instance, on TV, there are occasional reports about the discovery of more Life Extension Liquid in that world, for example, when completing the Corpse Demon World task, other Awakened carried numerous Artifacts from the Transcendent World, like vines that grow when thrown, self-attacking plants, etc., some of which caused Chu Xiu considerable trouble.

”Firstly, you must understand one thing, which is that the development of civilization is limited by resources.” Qin Xiang began explaining.

”Many people have a misconception that Technology can develop indefinitely, but this is actually wrong. The underlying physical laws will lock Technology, and once it reaches a certain level, it can no longer break through.”

”Before the arrival of the Abyss, human Technology advanced rapidly, and sci-fi novels already featured various fantasies about colonizing the Milky Way Galaxy, but from today’s perspective, it’s clear that without the Abyss, even if humans developed for another ten thousand years, they might not escape the Solar System! The vast cosmic scale and the high-temperature walls at the edge of the Solar System are all massive obstacles.”

”Technology has its limits, determined by the Foundation of physical laws.”

”Not only Technology, but the population as well. Earth’s resources are finite, and though more people can be accommodated through agricultural Technology development and resource distribution Optimization, the ultimate number of people who can survive is limited.”

”However, exploring other worlds can break this limitation, such as the special crops discovered in the Transcendent Evolution World, with yields ten to twenty times higher per unit area than Ordinary crops!”

”These crops can only germinate under the special conditions of the Transcendent Evolution World. Without that world, Blue Star’s agricultural scientists could never achieve such yields, no matter how long they cultivated.”

Qin Xiang’s words made Chu Xiu thoughtfully stroke his chin, it seems this logic holds, the resources from various worlds in the Abyss can complement each other, perhaps the resources mundane and ubiquitous in one world could be of great use when brought back to Blue Star.

Qin Xiang continued: ”But exploring the worlds is not easy, to reciprocate Blue Star’s development, a certain scale must be formed.”

”Think about it, in a Trial World, even if a thousand Awakened survive, and all of them are willing to stay, with fifty more people added at each Anchor Point, and increasing by six people annually, in a hundred years, that’s still less than two thousand! Even if more Anchor Points emerge elsewhere, the total is hard to exceed three thousand!”

”And this is the theoretical best-case estimate, in reality, at most, only half of the initial Awakened would choose to continue adventuring, with a terrifyingly high mortality rate annually, and replacements barely keeping up with the deaths! And when the opportunities have been mostly explored, the Awakened will depart on their own, most worlds will become deserted within a decade or so.”

”We’ve also tried various methods like test-tube babies, cloning, intelligent robots, but they all failed.”

”Under these circumstances, the Awakened are merely passersby, capable only of using world resources to enhance themselves, unable to develop civilization, let alone reciprocate Blue Star.”

”But in the Transcendent Evolution World, there was a Civilization Envoy who rescued a population of a life species of one million people from the old days. When they arrived in a resource-rich environment, they began to reproduce rapidly, and as the flame of civilization grew, the world gradually detached from the Abyss.”

”Once completely detached, we can establish large teleportation devices to transfer population and resources between the two worlds!”

”Today, the population in the Transcendent Evolution World exceeds a hundred million! And it’s still growing rapidly! With beast farms, Spirit Plant plantations, large research bases spread across the world, millions of tons of resources are transported between the two worlds every day, this world has effectively become humanity’s second home.”
