Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1597: Section 1598: Live Ingredients

The woman lying in bed, even in unconsciousness, still possessed an awe-inspiring appearance.

She was none other than Kavoline.

After Greya nodded, Allen happily returned to his temporary residence and brought Kavoline to Fangling Hall, accompanied by Sinistra.

“I hope your grace can save Kavoline,” Sinistra said to Greya with a deep bow, her expression tinged with anxiety.

Although Kavoline had only been unconscious for a short while, Sinistra had a premonition that if they delayed any longer, even for just an hour, it might cause irreparable harm to Kavoline.

Greya looked towards Kavoline: “Let me take a look at her condition.”

She reached out to touch Kavoline. However, before her hand could touch the skin, the red armor on Kavolineʼs body liquified, rapidly flowing over her entire body and sprouting numerous sharp and pointed barbs.

This peculiar transformation took everyone by surprise.

“Auto-changing form and actively protecting the owner. Is this the effect of the Spirit Clothing?” Shan inquired curiously.

“Exactly,” answered Sharley, her eyes shining with covetousness as she watched the Spirit Clothing. But she quickly sighed; she really wanted to “borrow” the Spirit Clothing for a few days, yet it belonged to the Spirit family. If she actually took it, the Spirit family might hold her accountable, and even her Mentor might not be able to cover for her.

“If the clothing automatically protects its owner, then how can we check her condition?” Shan asked at this point.

Of course, Greya could forcefully destroy the Spirit Clothing, but this would clearly be too much to bear.

Sinistra then approached Kavolineʼs bedside, crouched down, and whispered as if muttering, “Donʼt worry, weʼre just going to check on Kavolineʼs condition, you can sense it too, her current state is very bad…”

Shan watched Sinistra with puzzlement: She was right to say so, but can a piece of clothing understand?

However, the next second, under Sinistraʼs whisper, the Spirit Clothing transformed from a spiky armor into thin white cloths, covering only Kavolineʼs crucial areas.

Shan looked at the scene with a head full of question marks: “That worked? Could it be that this clothing, like Serumʼs book, has become sentient?”

Whether it had become sentient or not, nobody answered her, because those capable of answering her question were absorbed in their own thoughts.

After the Spirit Clothing retracted, Greya reached out to touch Kavoline, wanting to examine her exact condition. The moment she made contact with the skin, Kavolineʼs body trembled, her originally serene face suddenly twisted in pain, her brow furrowed involuntarily, and sweat beads quickly covered her forehead.

Seeing this, Greya seemed to have thought of something, her movements becoming more rapid as she stroked Kavolineʼs body. As Greya continued, the exposed skin of Kavoline turned moist and slick, covered in sweat.

Greya stopped her motions, falling into deep thought.

“Something is strange,” Angel said, his gaze suddenly turning grave.

Lyon, standing beside Angel, felt awkward looking at Kavoline in her current state, and the strong scent emanating from Kavoline made him even more uncomfortable. Upon hearing Angelʼs muttering, he took a step back and turned towards Angel: “Whatʼs strange?”

“The scent,” Angel replied softly.

Because Greya was deep in thought, the people waiting anxiously for an answer also heard Angelʼs comment.

Shan: “Is there something odd about the scent? Could it be Poison Fragrance?”

Sinistra looked at Angel curiously, wanting to get a clue from Angel.

At this moment, Angel fell silent, harboring a speculation in his heart, unsure if it was correct.

When Kavoline was brought to Fangling Hall by Sinistra, and Angel saw Kavoline lying unconscious on the bed, he sensed something strange. His keen perception of energy detected an enticing aura about Kavoline, subtle yet seductive.

At first, Angel didnʼt understand what it was, thinking it might be a unique Shulomon belonging to Kavoline.

But when Greya began to touch Kavoline and caress her, the strangeness in Angelʼs heart deepened even more.

Because he found that Greyaʼs way of caressing Kavoline didnʼt seem like she was examining a human but rather like she was massaging meat ingredients before cooking.

This chilling deja vu, at the moment when the scent began to emanate from Kavoline, made Angel even more certain that Greya was indeed massaging “food”.

“Using special techniques in combination with the power of gourmet food, pressing on the food can not only improve the foodʼs texture but also draw out its flavor from inside out.” This sentence was once said by Greya when she was preparing food, to Angel.

In the current scene, it couldnʼt be more fitting.

As perspiration broke out and Angel smelt that rich aroma, he now understood why he perceived an attractive aura from Kavoline, and it wasnʼt Shulomon; rather, it was the enticing fragrance emanating from the “food”.

However, Angel had never eaten human flesh, nor did he entertain the thought, so he did not immediately associate Kavoline with food.

But now, looking at the scene before him, Angel understood.

At this moment, Greya also snapped out of her contemplation, slowly standing up with a peculiar expression on her face.

Unable to obtain an answer from Angel, Sinistra could only turn her gaze to Greya: “My lady, how is Kavolineʼs condition now?”

Greya directly stated: “Not very good.”

Angel asked: “Is it because of the food issue?”

Greya nodded, giving Angel an approving look: “I didnʼt expect you to notice this before Sinistra. It seems you do have some talent in the culinary arts.”

Angelʼs previously grave expression immediately changed to one of a smile: “I think so too. Iʼve recently tried to refine the Magic Bread, and the flavor is richer than before. Would you like to try some later?”

Greyaʼs initially appreciative smile instantly stiffened; the mere thought of the Magic Bread prepared by Angel brought to her nose the scent of stale, moldy socks.

Greya: “Never mind, Iʼd rather not eat it. You can give it to Toby as a reward for his hard training.”

Toby, who was resting on Angelʼs shoulder, was inexplicably targeted. Hearing Greyaʼs words, he instantly became so agitated that his feathers bristled.

Greya: “Look how happy it is, stretching out its feathers in anticipation. Later, you can make more different flavors of Magic Bread to reward it–rich, savory, and salty, try them all.”

The more Greya spoke, the angrier Toby became. But in the room, only Angel and Greya understood Tobyʼs feelings; everyone else couldnʼt understand what Toby was saying, but they could see that Toby was angry, not pleased.

Lyon couldnʼt help but look at his earnest brother, curious about what kind of magic was in the Magic Bread that Angel made, causing Toby to be so averse?

As Toby was getting so furious it wanted to transform into a majestic Gryphon to display its burning anger, Greya immediately halted and steered the topic away from the Magic Bread and back on track.

“Angel is correct; it is indeed a problem with the food.” Greya looked towards Sinistra and Allen.

Allen: “Is there a problem with the food she ate?”

Greya shook her head: “What I mean is, someone is preparing to turn Kavoline into food, which is to say… a live ingredient.”

Once Greya spoke, everyone was silent for several seconds.

Suddenly, Lyon felt nauseous. During the war between Golden Sparrow and Hailan, he had seen refugees resort to cannibalism out of starvation. But that was a desperate measure, breaching the basic human boundaries. And now, someone was treating a living person as an ingredient directly, which was a strong blow to Lyonʼs values.

However, of those present, only Lyon felt uncomfortable; everyone else remained calm, even Sinistra merely frowned.

It wasnʼt that they accepted cannibalism, but in the Wizardsʼ Realm, there were even more terrifying and disturbing things. With more exposure to such horrors, one becomes desensitized.

But this calmness did not mean abandoning their own principles. Rather, on the long and boundless road of wizardry, as time inexorably rolls on, their perception of othersʼ principles quietly bows down to reality and… compromise.
