Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1584: Section 1585 Division of Labor

On second thought, such an approach also has its benefits. By raising the threshold, it also makes those who bear the Demonic Fiends more mature and stable in mind.

However, if even such individuals are successfully tempted, the resulting disaster would likely be even more tragic.

Therefore, if there is to be an organization in the future, it might need not only those who can bear the Demonic Fiends but also those specialized in clearing those who exceed limits or are successfully tempted.

As Angel pondered, the Demonic Fiend inside Shalu was still struggling, but under the suppression of Authority, it eventually obediently subdued.

Watching the Demonic Fiend calm down, Angel began to contemplate how to deal with the Demonic Fiend at hand.

From the previous observation of the battle, Angel could conclude that Shalu clearly was not suitable.

Being impulsive and easily tempted during the battle, he was not suitable to be a bearer of a Demonic Fiend.

Therefore, Angel ultimately decided to separate the Demonic Fiend from Shaluʼs body and search for a suitable person.

Thinking it, Angel immediately acted, controlling the Mist of Sin within the Ability Tree, locking it onto Shalu, preparing to expel the Demonic Fiend.

As Angel proceeded, Shaluʼs form began to slowly restore, and from his open mouth, a black mist began to spill. This mist slowly gathered in mid-air.

When Angel expelled the last remnant from Shaluʼs body, Shalu completely returned to human form, collapsing into unconsciousness on the ground.

Floating above Shaluʼs body was the strange creature they had seen before–

A worm-like head, butterfly wings near its ears, a soft body like a snake, covered with barbs and segments.

Although this Demonic Fiend had reached maturity and could exist independently from Mist of Sin, it still required nightmare energy from a host. But now that Angel had separated it from Shalu, without a host or Mist of Sin, the Demonic Fiend was clearly struggling.

Its long tail coiled up, shrinking into a ball in mid-air, resembling a sphere.

“Is this the Demonic Fiend you mentioned?” Lyon then stepped onto the arena, coming to Angelʼs side, curiously probing.

“Yes, to be precise, Demonic Fiend is just a racial name; it belongs to one of the Demonic Fiends,” Angel replied.

“Does it have a specific name?” Lyon asked.

“Yes,” Angel paused for a moment: “Serpent Tail Insect.”

Serpent Tail Insect? Lyon looked at the Demonic Fiend before him, with a snakeʼs tail and an insectʼs body, indeed resembling both snake and insect, but…

“This name is quite fitting, though it feels a bit like it was haphazardly put together,” Lyon muttered softly.

“Because I was the one who named it, is it not nice?”

Lyon: “…”

While Angel and Lyon were conversing, Sir Sabel had been listening all along, but the more he heard, the more confused he became. What was this Serpent Tail Insect, something he had never seen in Originheart City before? Why did it emerge from Shaluʼs body?

Sir Sabel looked at the unconscious Shalu, remembering that Shalu had escaped from Originheart City several months ago, only to return in such a state… Could it be that such terrifying Serpent Tail Insects exist outside the city?

Driven by curiosity, Sir Sabel couldnʼt help but quietly ask Angel.

Angel glanced at Sir Sabel and didnʼt answer immediately but signaled Frode to bring out a special container to put the newly named “Serpent Tail Insect” inside.

After completing these tasks, Angel then turned to Sir Sabel: “I was actually going to discuss this matter with you as well. Come with me to Sky Tower, I will tell you everything.”

Pausing for a moment, Angel looked at Frode: “Since Iʼm going to explain anyway, to save time, bring Tullas and Monroe City Lord here too; Iʼll explain everything at once.”

“Okay,” after receiving the order, Frode then pointed at the unconscious Shalu on the ground: “What about him?”

Angel glanced at Shalu: “You decide, or you can hand him over to Monroe City Lord too.”

Frode nodded, intending to personally handle Shaluʼs aftermath. Shalu was at fault, but since he had been punished and also served as an experimental subject, his actions could be partially offset. However, since Shalu had been outside the city, Frode wasnʼt planning to spread the news from outside the city yet, so it was better to keep Shalu under control for now.

After finishing speaking, Angel left first. Lyon, also curious about this matter of the Demonic Fiend, had initially planned to return to reality but now temporarily gave up the idea, opting to continue following Angel.

Half an hour later, within a circular hall on the middle layer of the Sky Tower.

Sabel, Tullas, Monroe, the City Lord, and others had arrived. Frode and Lyon were naturally there too, Sanders had left early to research issues relating to the Authority data of the Power System and was not present.

Angel glanced around; everyone had already arrived.

He looked toward Frode and nodded at him. Frode immediately coughed twice, drawing the attention of everyone at the round table.

“Now that everyone is here, I will tell you the truth about the current situation, although… this truth may be somewhat harsh.”

Frode spoke in detail about the Mist of Sin and the Demonic Fiend.

The atmosphere in the room was deathly quiet, nobody interjected, but the expressions on their faces grew increasingly grim… except for Tullas, who was completely out of the loop.

When Frode finished speaking, the room fell into silence. After a while, Sir Sabel finally spoke: “Could the Mist of Sin endanger the residents of Originheart City?”

Frode nodded, “Although I do not know when the Mist of Sin will erupt, its very existence is a variable. You are not wrong in thinking so.”

Sabel was silent for a moment: “In that case, I am willing to accept the Demonic Fiend into my body. Protecting the residents of Originheart City is my duty.”

At this moment, Angel spoke: “As for the matter of the Demonic Fiend entering a body, let me explain. This is not as simple as one might imagine.”

“Shalu, as you have seen earlier, was the first to undergo the Demonic Fiend integration. I initially wanted to test the feasibility of this, but clearly, Shalu did not qualify. He manipulated his power to push himself to the limit from the start and succumbed to the temptations of the Demonic Fiend, hence, Shalu was not suitable.”

“The person chosen for Demonic Fiend integration must first and foremost not be blinded by external power. They need to be self-disciplined and possess a strong will, as well as the heart to endure loneliness.”

Utilizing dangerous power to nip danger in the bud is inherently risky.

Most common people might understand this intellectually, but those who undergo Demonic Fiend integration are likely regarded by the Demon People of the Panic Realm with respect yet fear.

After Angel finished speaking, Monroe, the City Lord, spoke with difficulty: “Is this really the only way?”

“There are other ways, like letting other Transcendents protect you,” Angel paused, “Would you agree to that?”

The people present, including Tullas, were not short-sighted. They understood very well that entrusting their safety to others was unwise.

Monroe felt this particularly strongly; born in a small, insignificant country, which was protected by other major nations. Without its own protective forces, it could only seek help from major nations during wars, leading to a series of unequal treaties. Sometimes, the major nations would even stage events to exploit the smaller country.

Those humbling pleas, the hysterical crying of a knight clutching dirt-stained armor, and the degradation of being at the mercy of another country – Monroe knew it all too well.

If one has the power of their own, why beg others?

“I understand.” Monroe murmured softly; perhaps this carried risks, but peace was never easily obtained.

Angel looked around, and everyone seemed to concur.

Angel was about to reveal some matters about “granting Authority,” hinting that there were alternatives, but since no one objected, he decided against speaking further.

To think of danger in times of safety was the effective way to prevent misfortune.

“Demonic Fiend integration is a unique Power System, and it indeed requires some time for research because there are many issues to resolve.”

The Demonic Fiend possesses various unique powers, with classifications for both distant and close combat, such as the Serpent Tail Insect, which yields a talent inclined towards speed after fusion. Thus, choosing the right Demonic Fiend requires experimentation.

“However, to prepare for all eventualities, we still need to establish relevant institutional systems as soon as possible. Monroe, you will be responsible for this,” said Angel, looking at Monroe, who nodded in agreement.

“As for managing those integrated with the Demonic Fiend in the future, Sir Sabel will take charge.”

Sabel nodded.

At this moment, Tullas raised his hand, showing eagerness, “What about me? What about me?”

Angel hadnʼt actually considered including Tullas since he could leave Originheart City at any time. Seeing his enthusiasm, Angel pondered briefly: “You can assist Sir Sabel, be his deputy.”

Deputy! Why?! Just as Tullas was about to protest, Angel didnʼt entertain him and instead continued discussing the research matters concerning the Demonic Fiend, assigning tasks division.
