Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1596: Section 1597 Sweetfire and the Wind of Cream

The bonfire in the yard was still burning fiercely, with Shan leaning on Gankeʼs shoulder, directing him to continuously flip the honey-glazed roasted meat over the fire.

After a short while, a rich aroma of meat wafted through the air.

Having sniffed a few times and ensuring that the meat was well-roasted, Shan handed the roasted meat to Angel with an embarrassed expression: “This is for you.”

Seeing that Angel had taken it, Shan smiled contentedly. However, when she turned around, she noticed that Little Fatty Allen, who was sitting opposite Angel, was staring at the roasted meat in Angelʼs hand, somewhat transfixed.

Shan hesitated for a moment, and somewhat disgruntled, she took a piece of large-boned roasted meat from the tray and handed it to Allen: “Donʼt covet whatʼs in anotherʼs mouth… Since youʼre Angelʼs friend, take this piece of roasted meat.”

Allen hesitated for a moment before accepting the roasted meat from Shanʼs hands, and he bit into it after a long pause.

As soon as he took a bite, Allen showed a disgusted expression. Although he didnʼt spit it out, it was clear that it was a struggle for him to swallow it.

Shanʼs eyes narrowed as she asked coldly, “What? Does it not taste good?”

Allen nodded instinctively: “It tastes awful.”

Probably for the first time in her life, Shan received negative feedback. Her eyes bulged, and she pointed at Allen, unable to utter a word for a long time.

At this moment, Lyon helped Shan save a bit of face. He took the piece of meat from Gankeʼs hand, bit into it, and said, “The taste is as wonderful as always. Whatʼs not to like?”

Allen probably realized he had misspoken, but it was too late to rectify the situation. Looking around, he found that, apart from Angel, everyone else was glaring at him. After a moment of thought, Allen decided to be defiant: “Itʼs all bad, just let me do it!”

As he spoke, Allen pulled out a one-time Spatial Capsule from his pocket and gently squeezed it, instantly producing an exquisitely delicate roasting stove in front of him.

Allen chanted silently, and from nowhere he produced a rear leg of a Highland pig, placing it directly on the roasting stove.

It seemed that he was also preparing to roast meat.

Shan sneered to herself: Roasting meat without any seasoning? No matter how exquisite the stove, the result would be a flop.

However, just as Shan thought this in her mind one moment, she was stunned in the next.

Allen pressed his palms together, eyes closed, as if in prayer. A few seconds later, a flame appeared before him.

The Fire Summoning technique, almost all wizards knew it, but what stunned Shan was not the seemingly ordinary orange-yellow flame, but that it emitted a sweet scent like honey oil.

“Sweetfire?” Shan murmured softly to herself when a breeze that smelled differently than usual drifted from Allenʼs hands, carrying with it the fresh aroma of milk.

Angel took a deep breath, very satisfied within but maintaining a calm demeanor, and calmly said, “Sweetfire, Butter Wind.”

Shan might have thought that she had guessed wrong, but with Angel saying so, how could she not understand… Shan looked at Allen and asked, “Are you a Gourmet Apprentice?”

Busy making his specialty roasted meat, Allen nodded to Shan in passing: “Yes.”

Angel also added, “Allen comes from the Candy House and is currently an employee at the Butterfly Tavern.”

The Butterfly Tavern?! Shan looked at Allen in surprise, well aware of the Butterfly Tavern — aside from the Barbie Restaurant, it was another pilgrimage site for Gourmet Sorcerers! It was the place every other wizard hoped to dine!

Angel looked at Allen: “I remember when I met you in the Purification Garden before, you said you were in charge of roasting meat at the Butterfly Tavern?”

Allen nodded, pride on his face: “Yes, I am now in charge of all the roasted meats at the Butterfly Tavern!”

Hearing this, Shanʼs face turned slightly red.

The roasted meat that Shan had made was partly based on techniques from her old tribe and partly learned from the Honey Milk Roast at the Butterfly Bar in the Underground Market. The Butterfly Bar was a knockoff of the Butterfly Tavern and a rather unskillful one at that.

She had learned a knockoff version of roasted meat and here she was, showing off her skills in front of the genuine original… With this in mind, Allenʼs mere comment of “tastes awful” was really quite mild.

Soon, Allen had finished roasting the rear leg of the Highland pig. He took out his carving tools and quickly plated the sliced meat, passing it to Angel and Shan: “Try my roasted meat.”

Shan silently took it, her salivation starting just from the aroma.

The illusions created by the delicious food made Shan feel as if she had entered a world of gourmet delights.

The moment the roasted meat touched her palate, Shanʼs eyes bulged. Before, she had only seen the illusion of a gourmet world from a distance, but now she had approached it closely! Whisky Mountain, Fragrant Trees, Honey Falls, Milk River… and the tender roasted meat land. Shan felt like she was unabashedly lying on the ground, devouring the roasted meat laden with blood-red strands.

Satisfaction, unprecedented satisfaction.

Shan was immersed in the aftertaste for a long time, feeling as if her own energy had gone through a purification.

When Shan came to, she found a large puddle of drool in front of her, and her cheeks were burning hot.

When Shan looked around, she saw that Lyon had the same expression as hers, which made her feel slightly better — at least she wasnʼt the only one embarrassed. But Angel was doing much better, simply smiling at the corners of his mouth as he enjoyed the food.

After all, Angel now lived in the same estate as Greya, and although Greya did not cook often, whenever she did, Angel managed to get some of it.

Thus, when Angel tasted Allenʼs roasted meat, he naturally had to be a lot more composed.

Only when everyone was fully awake did Allen ask, “Does it taste good?”

Allen was asking everyone, but Shan felt as if he was specifically targeting her. Somewhat bashfully, she said, “Itʼs indeed better than what I make. I misunderstood you just now. However, you should have said you are a Gourmet Apprentice, so that I wouldnʼt have…” embarrassed myself.

Allen didnʼt pay much attention to the unsaid part of Shanʼs sentence and was smiling happily. Preparing delicious food and being loved for it was his favorite thing to do.

Angel: “The flavor is really nice, but you showing off this skill as soon as you arrive means you must need something from me. Alright, for the sake of the barbecue, Iʼll consider it, as long as itʼs not something too outrageous.”

Angel brought the conversation back to the main point, which made Shan sigh in relief. She didnʼt want to keep dwelling on the barbecue. But Allenʼs cooked meat was truly delicious. Shan glanced at the many pieces of barbecued meat left on the grill. Her eyes flitted around, and seeing no one paying attention to her, she sneakily reached out her hand guiltyly towards the grill…

Allen looked at Angel, “The reason I came to you is that I hope you could contact Miss Barbie on my behalf.”

Angel: “Greya?”

Allen nodded: “I heard from Sinistra that Miss Barbie is currently in Sky Mechanical City, staying at the Illusion Masterʼs mansion. I donʼt dare to approach that place, so I came here to see if I could get in touch with you.”

Angel: “Thatʼs quite straightforward. Greya is indeed in the mansion, and I can contact her for you right now. However, what do you need from her?”

Angel actually had no intention of prying into specifics, but since he was going to contact Greya, he needed some kind of reason after all.

Allen sighed and a worried look crossed his eyes: “Actually, itʼs not for myself, itʼs for… Kavoline.”

About ten minutes later, the doors to Fangling Hall were pushed open.

Greya entered briskly, followed by Sharley.

Sharley greeted everyone with a beaming smile: “Hello everyone, how about I perform a magic trick for you all?”

Everyone watched Sharley warily, clearly recognizing her identity as the mischievous witch. They wondered why Sharley appeared even though it was Greya they had called for.

Especially Allen, who pointed at Sharley with trembling fingers: “Why are you here?”

Sharley narrowed her eyes: “Oh, I see a familiar face~ I remember, my Beast-Slaying Knife is still left with you.”

“Who is your familiar face! And the Beast-Slaying Knife is mine, itʼs mine!” Allen said angrily.

Sharley was about to say something else, but then she heard Angelʼs cough. She immediately closed her mouth, shrugged her shoulders and said: “Just a joke, why are you so upset? Today, Iʼm not the main character.”

After Sharley finished speaking, she stepped back behind Greya.

Greya glanced at Sharley, then turned to Angel: “If I leave Sharley alone in the mansion, Iʼm afraid she might lead Butler No. 1 astray, so I brought her out with me.”

Whether Butler No. 1 would be led astray, Angel wasnʼt sure. But it was certainly going to involve Sanders, so it was better for Sharley to stay by Greyaʼs side.

After Greya finished speaking, she looked at Allen: “I remember Felicia asked you to stay at Candy House, how did you come out?”

Allenʼs gaze shifted, and he stuttered for a while without admitting he was actually lured out.

Greya waved her hand, not dwelling on it: “Never mind, since youʼre out. Angel told me you needed to see me about something concerning Kavoline?”

Allen nodded: “Yes, Kavoline has been unconscious ever since her competition with Asaz. Sinistra said itʼs a type of special Gourmet ability and that she canʼt undo it, only you can help her.”

“I donʼt know how you got mixed up with Kavoline and the others.” Greya muttered and continued: “Are you sure it happened after the competition with Asaz?”

“Yes.” Allen nodded.

Greya came so quickly partly because Allen was after all from Candy House and also because this matter concerned Asaz, whom she happened to be interested in.

After confirming the connection with Asaz, Greya said, “Tell me the details.”

Allen quickly explained the situation with Kavoline.

Since the competition with Asaz, there hadnʼt been any issues at first, but Kavoline fainted as soon as she reached backstage. They even had the healers from Infinite Battle Tower examine her, and they said there was no problem, perhaps it was just fatigue.

But Sinistra felt it was unusual.

Greya: “Why did Sinistra think it was not ordinary?”

“Intuition. Sinistra was watching the competition, and she felt Asaz was very strange. Although he belonged to the same Gourmet category, it made her very uncomfortable… I felt a bit uncomfortable too, but not as much as Sinistra.” Allen said.

“How did she confirm itʼs related to the Gourmetʼs Special Ability?”

Allen: “Sinistra summoned a knowledgeable otherworldly spirit through gourmet food, and the spirit told her so.”

Greya actually knew about Sinistraʼs Gourmet Spirit and understood that, generally, the otherworldly spirits would never deceive Sinistra. Besides, the intuition of a Transcendent is usually precise.

So, thereʼs a very good chance Kavolineʼs unconscious state is indeed related to Asaz.

After pondering for a moment, Greya said: “Assuming itʼs caused by some sort of Gourmet Special Ability, but thatʼs a broad range. You have a talent in making barbecue, which is also a kind of Special Ability, so itʼs hard for me to judge Kavolineʼs condition… Letʼs do this, have them come here, I need to see for myself.”
