Chapter 64: Chapter 63: Actually, You’re Quite Handsome Too Chapter 64: Chapter 63: Actually, You’re Quite Handsome Too “Dinner will be ready soon, remember to wash your hands first! The bathroom is around that corner.”

“Okay.”

Tang Song put the book back on the shelf and walked to the bathroom, turning on the light.

The area was about four or five square meters, clean and tidy.

The walls were covered with shelves holding various toiletries, skincare products, bath towels…

It was clear that Gao Mengting was a very meticulous and clean girl.

After washing his hands thoroughly, he returned to the living room.

Gao Mengting had just come over with a steaming plate of big buns.

“The range hood is quite old, so when I stir-fry, the smell spreads throughout the house. Don’t mind it.”

“It smells delicious, I don’t mind at all.”

Gao Mengting smiled and gently placed the plate down, then “whoosh” opened the balcony curtains and flung open both windows.

The cool evening breeze swept in, instantly freshening the air.

On the simple solid wood dining table, there were three dishes.

Tomato and scrambled eggs, mushroom and bok choy, smashed cucumber.

Under the warm light, it looked cozy.

“Come on, President Tang, try my cooking and see if it’s good.”

“Thank you, it looks very appetizing.”

Receiving the chopsticks Gao Mengting handed him, Tang Song tasted each dish in turn.

The eggs coated in tomato sauce were perfectly seasoned and smooth in texture.

The rich aroma of the mushrooms blended with the fresh taste of the bok choy, offering a rich palate.

The cucumber was crisp and juicy, with a refreshing spicy and sour flavor.

Although they were all simple home-cooked dishes, they were especially comforting to eat.

Tang Song extended his thumb and sincerely complimented, “Super delicious!”

Gao Mengting said somewhat shyly, “I don’t know many dishes, these three are my best, and they are very simple to make. Try the bun, my mom’s baking skills are very good.”

“Whew~ so hot! So hot!” exclaimed Tang Song, biting into a bun and instantly his eyes lit up, “Delicious! The level of spiciness is just right. Mengting, I now want to stay at your house and not leave.”

“We’re partners, are you trying to make me your nanny?” Gao Mengting blushed slightly, averting her gaze involuntarily, “There are 8 more buns in the fridge, I’ll pack them for you later.”

“It’s not right to take them all, just give me 4.”

…

Just then, the sound of a guitar “ding ding dong dong” suddenly drifted in from outside the balcony window, accompanied by a magnetic singing voice.

‘BGM: You Are the Daily Necessities

White rice congee in the morning,

You understand the change of seasons,

Know how to accompany for the long run,

Your eyes are kaleidoscopic…’

Gao Mengting curved her eyes, pointing at the wall behind her and said, “It’s the neighbor next door singing. Because the balconies are close, I often get to enjoy free live performances.”

“He sings well, and he plays the guitar nicely.”

Tang Song also loved listening to songs. To show off in front of his first love, he had even followed the trend and practiced the guitar for a while.

Unfortunately, with his average talent, he never mastered it.

“He’s a bar singer and also an internet celebrity, quite impressive.”

With the pleasant singing in the background, they ate and chatted.

From cooking to ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, they then started discussing the fashion industry.

In the meantime, Gao Mengting’s phone would light up with new messages.

Most of the time, she’d just glance at it and hardly ever replied.

After dinner, they cleaned up the kitchen.

Gao Mengting went to the bathroom to brush her teeth, then cut a fruit plate and placed it in front of Tang Song.

The two lounged on the fabric sofa in the living room, idly chatting.

“Ding ding ding—” The WeChat call ringtone sounded.

Gao Mengting hesitated for a moment but still answered the call.

“Hello, Ruoruo.”

“I’m quite good, nothing’s wrong, much better now, thanks for your concern.”

“How have you been recently?”

“Congratulations, congratulations, that’s great, looks like I’ll have to call you Supervisor Li from now on.”

“Okay, okay, if I go to Shanghai I’ll definitely come to see you, just don’t mind if I mooch food and drink.”

…

“I’ve got friends over right now, we’ll talk later, bye.”

After hanging up, Gao Mengting let out a long sigh and massaged her temples.

Tang Song asked with concern, “Is everything okay?”

Leaning on the armrest of the sofa, Gao Mengting looked at the ceiling and said, “Maugham once said, a lot of the concern is just to find out exactly how miserable you are. That sentence is my current situation.”

“Those female classmates, the ones I’ve barely kept in touch with after graduation, are now starting to reach out to chat with me, constantly inquiring about my current situation.”

At this point, she shook her head in self-mockery, “Perhaps I was too ostentatious before, made too much of a splash, making them uncomfortable.”

“That just means you’re too outstanding, which is why I chose you as my partner,” Tang Song shifted closer to her side, looking sincerely at her beautiful face.

Gao Mengting’s mouth curved up in a light smile, “Thank you for the recognition, President Tang, I won’t let you down.”

“Knock knock knock—” The sound of knocking suddenly erupted.

Gao Mengting quickly stood up, raising her voice, “Who is it?”

“Miss Gao, it’s me, returning a book.” A somewhat familiar voice came from outside the door.

“Hold on a moment.”

Peering out through the peephole, Gao Mengting cautiously opened the door.

Standing outside was a handsome young man, in his early twenties, with medium-length hair, dressed all in black.

He appeared quite stylish.

“Thanks for the book, I’ve finished the first volume of ‘Gone with the Wind,’ it gave me a lot to think about.” The young man handed over a blue and black book, softly adding, “In addition to returning this, I’d like to borrow the next volume, if that’s okay?”

“Sure, just a second,” Gao Mengting took the book and walked toward the bookshelf.

The young man’s gaze followed her moving figure, and then he noticed Tang Song sitting on the sofa.

Their eyes met, and his eyebrows involuntarily knitted together.

“Tap tap tap—” Gao Mengting got the book and hurried back to the door, “Here you go, your singing just now was really nice.”

“Thank you.” The young man received the book and curiously asked, pointing inside, “Do you have a guest today?”

Gao Mengting flashed a radiant smile, “Yes, a good friend.”

Seeing the smile on her face, the young man nodded, “Then I’ll get going. Thanks for the book, Miss Gao, and if there’s any song you want to hear, just let me know.”

“Alright, goodbye.”

“Goodbye.”

After closing the door, Gao Mengting offhandedly explained, “He’s the neighbor who was singing on the balcony just now, Liu Wenning, he moved in not too long ago.”

“Quite a handsome fellow,” Tang Song had an intuition that this Liu Wenning must fancy his partner and friend.

Because he likely wanted to use borrowing books as an excuse to come over more often.

But that was pretty normal.

Whether in looks, figure, or temperament, Gao Mengting was exceptional.

A girl like that certainly wouldn’t lack admirers in her life.

Gao Mengting pursed her full lips and said, “Actually, you’re pretty handsome too.”

Tang Song was momentarily stunned and then said earnestly, “I just like dealing with people who have an eye for quality like you.”

Gao Mengting covered her mouth and chuckled, sitting down on the sofa armrest close to the balcony, her long legs gently swaying as she faced the cool evening breeze, and she started chatting with him about literature.

Tang Song didn’t know much about this topic; he mainly listened and watched.
