Urban Seduction: Housewives Club

Chapter 774: Auntie’s Attachment

After sending Lan Yueying back, Ye Fei picked up his phone and glanced at the screen. To his surprise, it was his aunt, Xu Shuyun, calling. This caught him off guard.

A while ago, Ye Fei had visited Xu Shuyun. Although Ye Jing, as usual, was extremely warm and welcoming toward him, Xu Shuyun had become noticeably colder.

Not only was she no longer as dependent on him as she had been after Ye Lingtianʼs passing, but she seemed even more distant than before, deliberately keeping him at armʼs length.

Of course, Ye Fei knew that Xu Shuyunʼs behavior might not necessarily be a bad thing for him. But precisely because of that, he found this call all the more puzzling.

Given Xu Shuyunʼs personality, it was unlikely she would change her attitude so quickly unless something significant had happened.

With that thought in mind, Ye Fei quickly answered the phone. Sure enough, before he could even speak, Xu Shuyunʼs anxious voice came through, ”Ye Fei, where are you? Jingjing is sick, she has a high fever. You need to come quickly!”

Ye Feiʼs heart sank. Just like Ye Yunqi, the mischievous and adorable Ye Jing was one of his most cherished treasures. Hearing that she was ill, Ye Fei was naturally frantic with worry.

”Donʼt panic, Iʼll be there right away!”

he said before hanging up. Without even bothering to shower, he quickly whispered a few words to Lan Yueying, threw on his clothes, and dashed out the door.

Once outside, Ye Fei realized it was raining heavily. But his concern for Ye Jing outweighed any discomfort. He didnʼt even bother driving, instead sprinting straight toward his uncleʼs small villa.

The villa wasnʼt far from the Lingyun Society headquarters, and Ye Fei, using his teleportation ability, arrived in less than a minute. He walked in to find Xu Shuyun sitting in the living room, lost in thought.

Beside her lay Ye Jing, who was semi-conscious.

Xu Shuyun had carried her daughter out but, fearing the rain would worsen her condition, had called Ye Fei for help.

”Auntie, Iʼm here. How is Jingjing?” Ye Fei asked urgently as he walked in.

Xu Shuyunʼs body trembled slightly as if she had just realized Ye Fei had arrived. She looked up at him, her cheeks flushing slightly, and said in a low voice, ”She got caught in the rain this afternoon. I think she has a cold. Can you help me take her to the hospital?”

”Of course!” Ye Fei immediately agreed. He scooped up Ye Jingʼs small body and carried her outside, with Xu Shuyun quickly following, holding an umbrella over them.

When they reached the garage, Ye Fei placed Ye Jing in the back seat and was about to let go when she tightly wrapped her arms around his neck, murmuring, ”Brother, donʼt leave!”

With Ye Jing so ill, Ye Fei couldnʼt bring himself to pull away. He gave Xu Shuyun a helpless smile, and Xu Shuyun, seeing her daughterʼs attachment to Ye Fei, flashed a strange look in her eyes.

”You hold her. Iʼll drive,” she said, climbing into the driverʼs seat. Deep down, she prayed that her daughter wouldnʼt say anything inappropriate.

In truth, Ye Jing and Xu Shuyun had been at odds recently, and the reason was Ye Fei. Because of this little conflict, Ye Jing even refused to let Xu Shuyun pick her up from school. As a result, she had gotten caught in the rain today.

When she returned home, she ignored her mother and went straight to her bedroom.

Xu Shuyun, distracted and unsettled, didnʼt check on her until it was time for dinner, only to find that Ye Jing had developed a high fever.

Xu Shuyun had initially planned to take Ye Jing to the hospital herself, but seeing the heavy rain outside, she changed her mind.

Her daughter was no longer a small child, and Xu Shuyun hadnʼt practiced any martial arts, so carrying her to the car without getting her soaked would be difficult. Thus, she had no choice but to call Ye Fei.

As Ye Fei had guessed, Xu Shuyunʼs earlier coldness was due to reasons she couldnʼt openly discuss.

After Ye Lingtianʼs death, Xu Shuyun felt as if her world had collapsed. Naturally, she had developed a dependency on Ye Fei, who had become her pillar of support.

Over time, this dependency had transformed into feelings that shouldnʼt have existed.

To suppress these inappropriate emotions, she had forced herself to act coldly toward him. Yet, in this moment of crisis, the first person she thought of was still Ye Fei.

This attachment had unknowingly taken root in her soul, influencing her thoughts.

With these chaotic emotions swirling in her mind, Xu Shuyun started the car. But as the saying goes, ”What you fear most will happen.”

Just as she drove out of the gate, perhaps sensing Ye Feiʼs embrace, Ye Jing, who had been semi-conscious, woke up. She opened her big eyes slightly and looked at Ye Fei, saying happily, ”Brother, youʼre finally here.”

Seeing Ye Jingʼs fever-flushed face, Ye Feiʼs heart ached. He said softly, ”Yes, Iʼm here. Iʼm sorry, itʼs my fault for not paying enough attention to you and letting you get sick.”

Though Ye Jing was awake, her mind was still foggy.

All she knew was that she was in her brotherʼs arms, and the warmth of his embrace made her feel deeply attached.

Afraid of losing this feeling, she murmured, ”Brother, can you visit me more often? I miss you so much, and Mom misses you too.”

At her daughterʼs last words, Xu Shuyunʼs face turned bright red. She knew that Ye Jing had discovered her secret, as the girl had mentioned it during their last argument.

Xu Shuyun wanted to stop her daughter from saying more, but for some reason, she didnʼt.

Perhaps she felt it was futile, or maybe she secretly hoped that her daughter would voice what she couldnʼt.

”I will. I miss you both too,” Ye Fei said gently.

Ye Jing, desperate to keep her brother by her side, tried to explain further.

”Brother, do you know? Mom doesnʼt hate you at all. She even calls your name in her sleep. But I donʼt know why she acts so cold toward you. Brother, do you understand why?”

She finally said it! Xu Shuyunʼs heart raced, her face even redder than before.

She felt both embarrassed and flustered, yet there was also an indescribable emotion stirring within her.

She quickly glanced at Ye Fei through the rearview mirror, only to see him calmly comforting Ye Jing.

This made her breathe a sigh of relief, but at the same time, a faint sense of disappointment lingered in her heart.
