Chapter 292: Obito: My Kamui Can’t Fail

”As expected, once Fire Release chakra was added, the thermobaric bomb’s explosive power increased significantly. But is Konoha’s defense really that strong?” Kenichi muttered as he hung from the rope, squinting toward Konoha.

The explosion just now had created a violent shockwave that sent the airship flying backward, but that was exactly what Kenichi wanted.

He had never come here to fight Konoha to the bitter end. His real goal was to find out what Obito was planning. Now that he had been blown away, Konoha probably would not keep chasing him, right?

If that happened, he could focus on Obito and see what the man wanted. Dealing with Obito alone would be far less troublesome than dealing with Obito and Hiruzen at the same time.

Just as that thought crossed his mind, a scorching stream of fire surged upward from below.

Kenichi looked down and saw several Konoha ninja riding a strange contraption. It looked a little like an airship, but not quite. Those Konoha ninja were glaring at him with killing intent.

”So persistent?” Kenichi raised a brow.

That was not quite what he had expected. He had assumed Konoha would stop chasing after he retreated.

But he had clearly underestimated just how much hatred he had built up in the hearts of Konoha’s ninja, and he had also misjudged Hiruzen’s temperament.

For all of Hiruzen’s many flaws, and for all the people who considered him an unqualified Hokage, one thing was undeniable. Hiruzen genuinely cared about the village. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

Under those circumstances, Konoha had been threatened and attacked again and again by a mysterious ninja. If there were no response at all, Hiruzen’s position would become unstable.

More importantly, this was a heavy blow to Konoha’s prestige. If someone could cause chaos in the greatest village of the ninja world and Konoha still showed no proper reaction, then it would be hard to convince the people under its rule.

”You people really are something!” Kenichi was just about to mock the Konoha ninja chasing him when he heard a familiar chirping sound.

The moment he heard it, he instantly released the rope at his waist and dropped straight down.

At the same time, he adjusted his body midair, turned his head upward, and saw a conspicuous bolt of lightning streaking through the daylight.

”Kakashi? Why is Kakashi here too?” Kenichi frowned slightly.

But now was not the time to think about that. He had no intention of getting tangled up with Kakashi here either.

If he did, his identity would be exposed, and that absolutely could not happen.

He glanced at the sky. It was clear and bright, a rare beautiful day.

Unfortunately, that kind of weather was not very friendly to him. If he wanted to use Sage Art: Lightning Dragon, the natural conditions simply were not there.

”But this distance is enough for the next step.” Kenichi looked down, adjusted his posture, and immediately used Wind Release: Great Breakthrough. With the recoil from the technique, he shot himself toward a specific location.

”Do not let that guy escape!”

The Konoha ninja in the air were furious. At the same time, an Anbu ninja wearing a mask, the same one who had just used that lightning technique that nearly pierced straight through the Heavenly Demon, leaped down without hesitation and continued pursuing him.

The other ninja nearby exchanged glances.

They were all Konoha Chunin and Jonin leading pursuit squads, but even a Jonin would not casually jump like that, would they? Had Anbu become this ruthless now?

When Kenichi landed, he found himself in a devastated area. Broken trees and shattered stones lay everywhere.

This place...

Kenichi nodded.

It had been worth jumping down here. He just had not expected the area to be this badly ruined.

”So brave, chasing me down like this. How much does Konoha pay you?” Kenichi put his hands on his hips and panted lightly, then frowned as he looked at the pursuer who stepped out from behind him.

It should not be Kakashi.

Earlier, when he saw Chidori, he had immediately assumed it was Kakashi, because Chidori and Kakashi were nearly synonymous. But now that the other party had appeared, the hair color was wrong. It was not Kakashi’s distinctive silver white hair.

That meant the opponent probably was not Kakashi. Then who else in Konoha had mastered...

Still, after thinking about it, Chidori was also preserved in Konoha’s ninjutsu archives. It was not strange for another ninja in Konoha to learn it. Konoha was called the number one ninja village precisely because of its accumulated foundation.

Most powerful techniques created in the village were recorded. Konoha also gave out rewards to the creators as a form of encouragement. If the ninjutsu was especially strong, the Hokage would even publicly commend the inventor.

Of course, if the inventor was still alive, then anyone who wanted to learn the technique had to ask for permission first.

If the inventor was already dead, then it was up to the Hokage to decide whether it could be taught.

Many techniques of the First and Second Hokage were stored in the Scroll of Forbidden Techniques. Even Wood Release was included. The problem was that no one could learn it without Wood Release itself, so those records were effectively useless.

Still, since this man could use Chidori with such precision, then did he possess the Sharingan?

The enemy said nothing and came straight for Kenichi with lethal intent.

That familiar chirping sound rang out again. Lightning flashed, grazing past Kenichi’s body.

This time, Kenichi saw the man’s eye clearly.

Just as expected, it was the Sharingan, and a three tomoe one at that.

But only one eye was exposed.

Obito?

Kenichi instantly thought of a name, but before he could continue the thought, a blazing torrent of fire rushed at him from behind. The intense heat was so fierce he could already smell the fine hairs on his body scorching.

It had to be said that ninja tended to have less body hair to begin with, especially on the torso. Fire Release made quick work of body hair, after all.

Only the hair on one’s head could last a while, provided it did not meet the flames directly.

At the same time, another figure rushed in from behind at terrifying speed. Two wooden stakes pierced straight through Kenichi’s body, and in the next moment, countless sharp branches erupted from within him.

Wood Release: Cutting Sprigs Technique!

But the attacker was not pleased. He immediately leaped away instead.

Because the Kenichi before him turned into a puff of smoke.

”How interesting. Since when did Konoha have someone as strong as you? Wood Release?” Kenichi appeared on a nearby tree trunk with a look of exaggerated surprise, then looked down at Obito.

Of course, he already knew who it was.

The moment he saw Cutting Sprigs Technique, he was certain. Wood Release was far too rare and difficult to obtain.

Even his teacher had only managed to create one barely successful product, and even that was still incomplete, far from Hashirama’s level.

Obito being able to use it could only be because Hashirama’s cells had already been fused into his body.

Madara really had been a genius. He had managed to keep Obito alive and even made him withstand the erosion of Hashirama’s cells.

So to resist the side effects of Hashirama’s cells, one needed Uchiha genes, right?

The fusion of Asura and Indra’s genes. Once those two lineages merged, they moved closer to the blood of the Otsutsuki Clan, and from there came the possibility of awakening the Rinnegan...

Obito still did not answer.

He slammed both hands onto the ground, and at once, the trunk beneath Kenichi’s feet erupted with dense spikes, all trying to skewer his legs.

Kenichi dodged them cleanly.

”You think only you know ninjutsu?” Kenichi asked with a sneer.

This Obito was still pretending to be mysterious. If Kenichi were willing to expose everything he knew before killing him, he would have shouted his name to his face long ago.

But since he did not want to reveal that, he could only continue the act and end this quickly. Otherwise, it would get troublesome once Konoha’s reinforcements arrived.

”Ninja Art: Impure World Reincarnation!”

Kenichi roared, chakra surging around him.

Just as the technique was about to take shape, the chakra flow twisted in a different direction, and natural energy poured into it at the same time.

Sage Art: Impure World Reincarnation!

”Impure World Reincarnation?” Obito’s pupils shrank.

Instinctively, his gaze flicked toward the place that still haunted his nightmares.

Kenichi naturally caught that.

He let out a cold laugh.

Now he was completely sure. The bastard in front of him really was Obito.

Of all places, Obito had chosen Konoha’s cemetery to ambush him, playing at secrecy like some idiot.

Kenichi had specifically come here to provoke him, and Obito had taken the bait almost immediately.

Fine then. Since that was how it was, Kenichi would summon the woman Obito had never let go of and let him have a taste of what that felt like.

Kenichi shook his head.

No. Rin had been dead for too long. That was just too twisted, even for him.

”Still distracted?”

Kenichi barked, then unleashed a burst of lightning straight at Obito.

Obito had no choice but to retract his attention. Facing the oncoming bolt, he frowned slightly.

The power of the technique was great, and it was fast. Dodging now would be difficult.

In that case...

Obito sneered.

”Let me show you what the Mangekyo Sharingan can do.”

Without hesitation, he used Kamui.

At that instant, time itself seemed to stop.

Kenichi watched as his lightning passed straight through Obito’s body, as though the man were a ghost.

Then Obito’s body, which had become illusion like and intangible, abruptly shattered.

It rapidly disintegrated into the air, leaving only flickering firelight behind.

A trace of disbelief flashed across Obito’s eyes.

He coughed up a mouthful of blood in sheer shock, and then his head dropped directly onto his leg.

Kenichi froze for a split second.

Then he instantly understood what had happened.

There was no question about it. Obito had just used Kamui, and then...

”And what the hell does that matter? If I do not finish him now, then I really am an idiot!”

Kenichi’s eyes lit up. He immediately unleashed a condensed Great Fire Annihilation, narrowed in scope and sharpened in temperature.

The flames swept over everything, turning the broken branches and debris on the ground into blackened charcoal.

But when the fire passed, the devastated ground held nothing.

No blackened head. No remains.

Only empty earth.

Kenichi cautiously leaped onto a tree branch and looked down.

Obito should have died from that. Yet he had not.

That meant something had gone wrong.

Either Black Zetsu had dragged him away, or...

Izanagi?

But after waiting a while, no one appeared.

Instead, Konoha’s ninja arrived.

Left with no other choice, Kenichi released the Impure World Reincarnation, allowing the dead to return.

What a waste.

Although he had dealt Obito a devastating blow, he had failed to kill him properly, and failed to crush his spirit at the same time. That disappointed Kenichi greatly.

Still, it was time to leave.

”Where do you think you are going, Heavenly Demon?!”

A furious voice rang out, making Kenichi frown again.

Did he really forget to check the almanac before coming out today?

Meanwhile, elsewhere, Black Zetsu stared at Obito beside him in panic.

”Obito! You are still alive?!”

He had been watching the entire scene from underground, but he had never expected that the moment Obito used Kamui, he would suffer such catastrophic damage. His vital signs had nearly disappeared on the spot, even more strangely than Madara had back then.

When Obito’s head dropped onto his own leg, Black Zetsu had actually failed to react.

Then he realized Kenichi was immediately trying to erase all evidence, so he stopped hesitating and jumped out. He used White Zetsu’s body to grab Obito and flee at once.

Now Black Zetsu’s mind was full of confusion.

How had Obito used Kamui and ended up losing his body instead?

He had already been prepared for the worst. Holding Obito’s head in his hands, he truly thought Obito was going to die, so he had no choice but to use the White Zetsu attached to his own body to give Obito a temporary chance of survival.

Then Black Zetsu suddenly felt a shift beside him.

He turned his head and saw Obito standing there with a dark expression.

But now Obito’s left eye had gone completely blind.

”I will kill Amamiya Kenichi!” Obito roared, fury filling every word.

He had just used Kamui to retreat into his own Kamui dimension.

That was supposed to be the safest and most stable place he had.

But what he never expected was that he would be attacked there.

Attacked inside the Kamui dimension.

At that instant, he had felt an overwhelming shockwave.

Before he could react at all, his body had been completely shattered. If not for the Izanagi implanted in his left eye, he would already be in the Pure Land now.
