Chapter 243: Koyuki’s Burning Desire for Revenge

”Hm? So this person has an even better cloning system?” When Amemiya Kenichi found his teacher, his teacher was toying with a bright silver metal block. Hearing Kenichi’s words, his teacher’s eyes flashed with interest.

”Yes, Teacher. Although his cloning also has some issues...” Kenichi explained Amado’s situation. To be honest, he felt that Amado’s cloning technology was, in some ways, more suitable for producing clone armies.

The growth cycle was fast, allowing them to reach full combat readiness quickly. Even if they could only be maintained for about a year, it was still impressive. The only unknown was whether these clones could learn ninjutsu.

If they couldn’t, then their practicality would drop sharply. But Kenichi felt that with his teacher and Amado working together, it wouldn’t be difficult to improve this cloning technology.

”This problem is quite interesting, but I haven’t encountered anything like it before.” His teacher stood up immediately. Just as Kenichi expected, Orochimaru was indeed fascinated by the topic, and even showed clear interest in Amado himself.

Watching his teacher and Amado speak back and forth, Kenichi rested his cheeks in his hands and observed in silence. For some reason, he felt strange inside. He couldn’t quite describe the mood, only that it was awkward, like reconnecting with an old friend and suddenly realizing the distance between them had changed without warning.

He touched his nose, then glanced at his teacher again.

To be honest, when Kenichi used to spend time with his teacher, it was mostly vigilance and caution. Later, after being around him longer, that vigilance eased into a guarded trust. His teacher really was capable, and that strength earned respect.

But ever since his teacher changed bodies, Kenichi realized he’d been watching him more often than before.

It wasn’t admiration, and it definitely wasn’t anything sentimental. It was the opposite. A nagging sense of unease, like his instincts kept telling him there was something he hadn’t fully understood yet. Orochimaru’s presence felt different now, and Kenichi couldn’t tell whether that difference was a disguise, a new habit, or a new danger.

Kenichi narrowed his eyes.

”Once the research on the Sharingan is complete... maybe it’s time to start researching the soul.”

He forced himself to look away.

”So, Koyuki, can you tell me about your key?” Kenichi turned to the little girl beside him and asked.

Koyuki had been found by chance when Kenichi passed by the port. This time, Amado had no objections, only watching quietly from the side. Compared to his own daughter, a strange little girl couldn’t stir any pity in him.

”...I really don’t know what this key is for.” Koyuki lowered her head, not daring to meet Kenichi’s gaze. She clutched the corner of her clothes, tense and nervous.

Kenichi’s mouth twitched. Why did he look like some kind of perverted kidnapper? He used to read pure romance manga, not the kind that got you put on a list.

”Just give it to me. As compensation, I’ll help you get revenge.” Kenichi rubbed the little brat’s head with a wry smile. From the moment he saw her, he hadn’t intended to be harsh. She was simply too young.

Moreover, compared to Doto, who could kill his own brother over a rumor, Kenichi felt Koyuki was more suitable to rule the Land of Snow. Of course, she was young now, but that didn’t matter. Her age made her easy to guide from behind.

Of course, Kenichi had no interest in governing the Land of Snow. His only interest was the thawed land and the strange plants hidden in this country, such as the Yellow Spring Flower.

This stuff was useful. After obtaining relevant data from the Hidden Snow Village, Kenichi confirmed it could be used as an anesthetic. As long as it wasn’t overdosed, it would be safe. An overdose could induce rhabdomyolysis and sudden cardiac arrest, but the treatment method was also very simple.

The Chakra Scalpel would suffice.

The solution being simple didn’t mean the Yellow Spring Flower lacked value. On the battlefield, even a one second mistake could decide victory or defeat.

So it could be used as a small advantage to secure a win, or it could be incorporated into a Hidden Mist technique to develop a large scale anesthetic ninjutsu, taking the enemy commander’s head before they even realized they’d fallen.

”Revenge? Really?” Koyuki sprang up at once. She grabbed Kenichi’s hand, her big eyes brimming with desperate hope as she asked again, as if afraid he would take it back.

Kenichi fell silent.

He suddenly realized something. To him, Doto was just a pawn, a disposable piece to trade for what he needed. But to the girl in front of him, he was the man standing on the side that had taken her father.

It was like the three great wars the shinobi world had already endured. Each war swallowed countless lives. The Kage calculated gains and losses, discussed victory and defeat, and the dead became numbers in a report.

But behind every number, hatred quietly fermented.

Kenichi understood why people like Yahiko and Nagato could be born from an era like this.

Hatred brewed into a rich, poisonous wine.

”Yes.” Kenichi nodded, his voice steady. ”I’ll help you kill Doto, and everyone involved in the rebellion.”

Koyuki burst into tears. Her shoulders shook as she cried, but her hands moved quickly, as if afraid someone would snatch it away. Trembling, eyes red, she offered up the hexagonal crystal she had guarded like her last lifeline.

”Is... is this it? My father only gave me this...” Koyuki asked through her sobs, holding the crystal out to him.

Kenichi looked at it and nodded. It was indeed the thing.

It was the key to open the door, but it wasn’t shaped like a key at all. It was a special crystal, unmistakable.

”Good.” Kenichi accepted it, then rubbed her head again with a soft chuckle. ”I’ll keep my promise, and I’ll help you get revenge.”
