Chapter 241: The Rise and Fall of Prices Can Also Indicate the Coming of War

”Can it succeed?” Amado asked, clearly nervous.

Beside him, Amemiya Kenichi scratched his head, then glanced at the man in front of him. To be honest, Kenichi hadn’t expected Amado to carry his daughter’s hair on him.

Perhaps because he knew Kenichi would immediately learn the resurrected person’s identity, and there would be no way to hide it, Amado simply laid everything on the table. The one he wanted to bring back was his own daughter.

His daughter had died of illness. Amado had been researching ways to revive her for a long time, but so far, there had been no meaningful progress.

A cloned daughter was not the same as the daughter he had lost. The clone had an extreme personality and a terrible temper, something Amado could not accept. That was why he had been searching for a better method.

After learning that this technique required a living sacrifice, Amado, who had just helped Koyuki, grabbed a Snow ninja who had been cleaning the port streets and threw him in front of Kenichi.

”Don’t worry,” Kenichi said, waving a hand. ”This technique will succeed. The only real question is whether your daughter can accept it after she’s brought back.”

Kenichi wasn’t worried about failure.

Since Edo Tensei, this forbidden technique, had been developed, there were no recorded failures. Kenichi didn’t believe he would be the first, especially not when resurrecting a little girl, Amado’s daughter, rather than some terrifying figure.

If it were Madara, or a genius like the First or Second Hokage, then Kenichi would be cautious.

But failing to resurrect Amado’s daughter? The odds were practically zero.

Kenichi completed the ritual steps. Then, with a clap of his hands, a coffin rose from beneath the ground.

The lid opened.

A girl stepped out.

”Akebi...” Amado’s eyes reddened as he stared at her.

Kenichi’s mouth twitched. That name made it hard to know what to say. Akebi? It didn’t really sound like a girl’s name.

Still, looking at the girl now standing before them, Kenichi had to admit she was pretty. Her features were delicate, and there was a distinct charm to her.

Only the cracks across her face, the unmistakable marks of Edo Tensei, gave her an eerie edge.

”Father?” Akebi opened her eyes. She looked around blankly, then spotted Amado as he stumbled toward her on unsteady legs.

Kenichi watched the reunion without a word. He moved to the side, sat down, and poured himself tea.

He deliberately left space for the father and daughter. That was also a way to win Amado over.

After all, who would want an audience while they were letting their emotions out?

Besides, Kenichi had made a few modifications to the Edo Tensei procedure himself, specifically to prevent Amado from copying it. From Amado’s demeanor, it didn’t seem like he would try, but caution never hurt.

”Are you planning to recruit him?” Kakashi sat across from Kenichi. He had seen the coffin rise, but he didn’t know what technique it was, only that it had to be forbidden.

”More or less.” Kenichi nodded.

Amado had said the device he developed was called a Ninjutsu Reversal Device. It could reflect most ninjutsu. Exactly how many it could reflect was still being tested.

But Amado hadn’t explained the principle behind it. Kenichi understood. No one handed out core technology for free.

Even so, the value of that device was absurd.

If they made a larger version, or used the principle to create something else, and then applied that reflection to bases and airships, wouldn’t that become a completely different kind of protective barrier?

An upgraded one, at that. Instead of simply blocking attacks, it would reflect incoming ninjutsu back at the attacker.

That would guarantee the safety of an airship. And if they could extend the same technology further, perhaps they could build a shield that also resisted physical impact.

The moment Kenichi saw that Ninjutsu Reversal Device, all kinds of ideas sprouted in his head.

But every one of those ideas required the same starting condition.

Recruit Amado.

Kenichi could force Amado to work for him if he wanted to, but he understood something very clearly. For scientists of this level, willing cooperation often produced better results than a knife at the throat.

Kakashi watched Kenichi drink tea, his eyes complicated. His old friend was still the same. He looked a bit more mature, but his personality hadn’t really changed.

”Kakashi,” Kenichi said, glancing toward Amado. Amado was still with his daughter, and it looked like the reunion would take a while. ”How’s Guy been lately?”

He was taking advantage of the moment to learn a few things from Kakashi.

Of course, he couldn’t be too obvious. Start with small talk, then casually probe Konoha’s current situation.

Kakashi didn’t mind chatting about that kind of thing. But the moment Kenichi’s questions drifted toward the village’s recent state, Kakashi fell silent.

Kenichi didn’t press immediately. Instead, he sighed and shifted the topic as if it were nothing. ℴ

”I remember back when I ran missions, a full set of ninja tools only cost a little over three thousand ryo,” Kenichi said. ”I didn’t expect them to go for four or five thousand outside.”

”It’s not cheap in the village anymore either,” Kakashi said before he could stop himself. ”A set of ninja tools costs four thousand three hundred ryo now.”

Kenichi raised an eyebrow.

Prices in the village had risen, and fast.

Sometimes, price movement was intelligence on its own. But the Hokage’s office didn’t really think like that, so Kakashi hadn’t treated it as something sensitive.

Kenichi’s gaze sharpened slightly as he thought it through.

Ninja tools were basically a standardized package, something every shinobi bought before missions. Kunai, shuriken, soldier pills, and other essentials were bundled together.

Most of the time, prices stayed stable.

A sudden jump meant one thing. Someone had been buying in bulk, in a short time.

And that usually happened when people were preparing for conflict.

Kenichi lowered his cup.

Could it be... the Uchiha clan was running out of patience?
