Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 645: Chapter 299: The Great Philanthropist

”You should watch less of these shows, don’t learn bad things from the people on TV, hurry up and eat, after you finish I’ll take you to Grace’s house.”

Wu Chang is very clear about his position; he’s never been a good person, nor ever wanted to be one.

He would do good things, only because what he wanted to do happened to be good things, not because the act itself was intrinsically good.

Nowadays, everyone holds a gun, waiting for good people to appear; after all, it’s a high-risk job.

Just now, the villain Peace finished an interview, and on the way out of the broadcast hall, he removed the tie tightened like a noose and unbuttoned the top button of his shirt.

Phew, wearing this thing is so stifling.

Leaving the TV station, he got into the car originally belonging to Kent, where Miles was already waiting in the back seat.

Seeing True Self come out, Miles quickly reported:

”Boss, the work is progressing smoothly. In the community destroyed by the fire, seventy percent of the residents cannot afford the high land tax and cleanup costs and agreed to sell their land at a low price.”

Wu Chang took off his suit and casually asked, ”What was the reaction from those residents?”

Miles smiled, ”They’re all thanking us, after all, the price we’re offering is twenty percent higher than those given by insurance and real estate companies.”

White Old K doesn’t lack money, what he lacks is clean money.

Kent made a lot of cash through flour sales, but the money has no legitimate origin and cannot enter circulation directly.

Generally, a series of operations are required to convert illegal money into legal money before it can be safely deposited into an account.

This process is costly and requires professional people; it’s even more troublesome than earning money.

But now it’s no longer necessary. The Iside Mountain fire outbreak turned Sigef City into chaos, and the people above want to resolve the issue quickly to use as political capital.

Solving the problem requires money.

The insurance companies, citing the disaster’s immense scale, have already refused all claims; the money has to be figured out by City Hall itself.

As for the Federation’s funding, the congressmen are still arguing, and the funds are nowhere in sight.

It’s time for the great philanthropist Peace to make an appearance.

After a night of negotiations, initiated by White Old K’s backers and through collective agreement, White Old K’s new boss became the celebrated philanthropist this morning.

The huge amount of black money stockpiled by White Old K transformed into charity funds raised from a gala overnight.

White Old K handed out money and got the land; Wu Chang gained reputation; City Hall got the funds needed to solve problems.

It was a win-win-win situation.

Miles paused for a moment, then said, ”Although we’ve got the land, to use it we still need to give those people benefits. They didn’t expect the fire to be that extensive, and now that we’ve profited so much, they want a bigger share.”

Wu Chang was unconcerned, ”Let the Negotiation Master deal with them. My bottom line is to buy their land at the original price, with a seventy-thirty profit share on ordinary land, but I want seventy percent.”

”Anyone asking for thirty percent better be a beggar.”

Miles looked a bit uneasy, ”This might be hard to negotiate.”

Wu Chang said, ”You can tell them that as long as they agree to my profit-sharing method and give me a council position, White Old K can take care of the firefighting.”

Miles hurriedly advised, ”Boss, even though we have many people, firefighting is more than just about manpower; it requires professional firefighting equipment.”

”The firefighting team in Sigef City is already run-down. Even if we hired private firefighters from other cities, even tripling our flour business wouldn’t cover the costs.”

Wu Chang waved his hand, saying, ”Just follow my instructions; I’ll figure out how to extinguish the fire.”

His energy level had already returned to 115, and with the Water and Thunder Technique, he could move the moisture from the docks to Iside Mountain. Putting out all the wildfires at once was difficult, but two or three patches at a time were entirely manageable.

With his intervention, the fire could be subdued in two or three days at most.

Then, as the person responsible for firefighting, he could completely claim that his piety moved the God.

To be blessed by God would surely earn him the title of Saint, wouldn’t it?

In the isolated and devoutly religious southern area like Sigef City, at least ninety percent of the citizens follow some faith.

With the title of a Saint, his influence in Sigef City would be undeniably high.

Leveraging bottom-up influence and White Old K’s force, he would become the biggest local boss in Sigef City.

By the time those people would have to vomit out double what they have eaten.

It was a lesson he learned at Hymn Company: the benefits from cutting down the grassroots are far less than turning the knife on the bloated pigs in the upper echelons.

What’s the point of eating vegetarian? If Wu Chang wants to eat, he’ll eat a grand feast.

Of course, he hadn’t shared these plans with Miles. In Miles’ view, the boss prefers to make trouble rather than make easy money.

Miles dared not say more, deciding to throw the work back to the Negotiation Master and let the newly recruited guys deal with it.

He adjusted his mood and said to Wu Chang:

”Boss, there’s one more thing to report; the person you were looking for, we found them.”

Wu Chang, preoccupied with thoughts of Amber and pig-killing, didn’t react immediately and asked, ”Who?”

Miles said, ”The one-handed person you mentioned earlier.”

Wu Chang raised an eyebrow, ”Where are they? Take me there now!”
