Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

When it came to what Lin Jiang had done to make the Management Bureau hunt him down, Hou Jingchuan’s expression was somewhat awkward.

How should I put it, it felt like being singled out and asked, ’What do you think about your failure at work this time?’

If it were anyone else, the question would end there, but facing Wu Chang, Hou Jingchuan couldn’t avoid it and could only brace himself to explain the whole story.

”Do you remember when the forces of the Four Major Organizations were attacked not long ago?”

”I do remember.” Wu Chang nodded. He remembered clearly; it was from that incident his impression of the Four Major Organizations plummeted.

He even once thought, before realizing the irreconcilable conflict between the Evolution Sect and Order Sect, that it was all a script directed by the Four Major Organizations themselves.

Hou Jingchuan said with a bitter smile, ”Lord Peace, how much do you know about that attack?”

Wu Chang poured himself a cup of tea, not intending to let Hou Jingchuan probe too deeply, ”Whatever I know is definitely not as true as what Mr. Hou would directly tell me.”

Hou Jingchuan gazed at the tea in his cup, seemingly seeing the day Red Wave Space was attacked.

”Although you’re not part of the Management Bureau and can’t enter Red Wave Space, you should have heard about the attack that day through the public area bar.”

”The attackers not only wreaked havoc throughout Red Wave Space, but also seriously damaged the Hongmeng Temple, which held temporary administrator privileges, and invaded the extremely confidential central area.”

”Of course, it wasn’t just Red Wave Space; the other three organizations were simultaneously attacked that day, suffering losses no less severe than the Management Bureau.”

Hou Jingchuan couldn’t let himself solely be interrogated on this matter without bringing his three peers into the conversation.

”The attackers possessed incredibly powerful hacking skills, working with insiders who had high-level privileges to hack into Red Wave Space directly. They first caused errors in public facilities across Red Wave Space, such as garbled prices at the trading house, a sudden increase in difficulty in training rooms, and malfunctions in the dungeon waiting hall, making it impossible to enter dungeons.”

”When the internal members dispersed to check on the malfunctions, they triggered large-scale explosions. Since Red Wave Space is a non-combat space, skills couldn’t be used, and stats were restricted, trapping personnel across the area who couldn’t escape quickly.”

”The insiders who had infiltrated the Hongmeng Temple took the opportunity to sabotage it, stealing the highest authority of Red Wave Space from the highly confidential central area.”

”The three other organizations experienced roughly the same ordeal, with attackers stealing the highest authority of their respective Desolate Realm force spaces.”

Wu Chang clicked his tongue, his mouth twisting downward; no wonder the incident was such a hot topic when the force spaces were first attacked, then suddenly went cold with little discussion.

It turns out it was too sensitive. The Four Major Organizations were afraid of the truth being speculated upon and suppressed the trending searches.

He curiously asked, ”The highest authority was lost; have you not found it yet?”

Hou Jingchuan shook his head and said, ”This matter is quite complex to discuss.”

Originally, when the Management Bureau was established, the founders imposed many restrictions on the highest authority of Red Wave Space to prevent upper echelons from being corrupted by power and abusing it.

One of them was that the holder of the highest authority must obtain recognition from at least five Red Wave Space administrators to use the power of the highest authority.

So the loss of the highest authority felt more like symbolic humiliation rather than actual harm.

Moreover, once the highest authority leaves Red Wave Space, the Hongmeng Temple will sound an alarm, which can temporarily take over the functions of the highest authority and generate new highest authority within fifteen days, abolishing the lost highest authority.

After Red Wave Space was attacked, the Hongmeng Temple received no alarm, indicating that the attackers had hidden the highest authority within Red Wave Space, making it untraceable.

In Hou Jingchuan and his peers’ view, neither insiders nor outsiders could directly benefit from stealing the highest authority.

Their elaborate planning for the attack could only mean one thing: to simply disrupt the Four Major Organizations’ control over the Desolate Realm.

During that time, with the highest authority lost, the entrance to the Pillar of the Present World was discovered before they could replace it, allowing the Bright Society and the Evolution Sect from the Realm of Reason to successively damage the Pillar.

To make matters worse, those from the Peaceful Sect, Revelation, and the Circle of Believers publicly claimed responsibility for the incident, further solidifying the belief among the upper echelons of the Four Major Organizations that the theft of the highest authority was simply to block their management of the Desolate Realm.

Thus, they searched for the highest authority in their force spaces while following established procedures to generate new highest authority in their respective extremely confidential central areas.

However, since the old authority hadn’t left the force spaces, generating new highest authority takes forty-five days, and it has yet to be completed.

In the eyes of the Four Major Organizations, as long as they endure the forty-five days and the new highest authority is established, it will be as if nothing happened.

Escaping from responsibility might be shameful, but it’s very effective.

To many people, even though the new highest authority is yet to be generated, the matter has already become a thing of the past.

But with Lin Jiang attacking the Management Bureau’s headquarters and subsequently fleeing, the issue surfaced again.

Because when Lin Jiang fled, the Divine Hall of Hongmeng sounded the alarm, indicating someone took the missing highest authority out of Red Wave Space.

Moreover, on the same day, the extremely confidential central areas of the other three organizations also reported alarms.

Hou Jingchuan took a sip of tea, moistening his dry throat, and said with a bitter voice:
