Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Caught in One’s Own Trap

Due to the disappearance of Cold Stone, Baldy has been very irritable lately.

He’s not as easily fooled as the boss, who can be brushed off by the kid called Sword Star from the Management Bureau with just a few words.

Heh, a regular C-Level instance can make Cold Stone crash?

What a lie!

The three of them have been aligned together since their first team instance raid, later joined the Iron Armor Corps together, and made a name for themselves.

It’s not an exaggeration to say they are like blood brothers from different parents; in ancient times, they would have cut chicken heads and burned yellow paper to swear an oath.

He knows Cold Stone very well, Cold Stone seems carefree but is actually extremely meticulous.

The meticulousness here refers to his mind.

In the Iron Armor Corps, Cold Stone is one of the rare specialists in strategy and instance raiding, with deep research on instance rules and clearance methods.

Dying due to instance rules can happen to anyone, but definitely not to Cold Stone.

Surely some bastard harmed his brother, and it’s very likely the person is Sword Star.

Not to sound harsh, but he thinks the boss isn’t necessarily convinced but rather afraid, afraid of conflict with Sword Star, afraid of conflict with the Management Bureau.

Tui! His own brother died, yet he doesn’t dare to demand an explanation, how utterly cowardly.

What’s more cowardly is that he doesn’t dare either.

It’s not about lacking courage but rather not having the capability.

If the boss teamed up with him, they might have a chance to take down Sword Star in a sneak attack.

But if it’s just him alone, even in an ambush, there’s no chance of victory.

From the moment they initially entered the instance and had Sword Star’s Flying Sword held at his throat on the beach, he realized the gap between them.

The sadness over Cold Stone’s disappearance, contempt for the boss’s cowardice, and self-pity for his own weakness intertwine, creating tremendous mental pressure for him.

This isn’t good news for a player who has experienced mental collapse.

He needs to relieve stress like he has done before, finding things to distract himself.

Coincidentally, he spotted a girl named Hamster—her lively and warm aura resonates with the feelings of his first love stored in his memory.

It’s her!

Baldy followed Hamster, intending to find a quiet corner to have a private talk about life.

The two left the town center in single file, heading towards the suburbs by the small pier direction.

The further away they are from the crowd, the harder it is for him to control his desires.

She’s not just similar; she is my first love. She’s back looking for me.

She treated me so well before, surely she will agree to my request.

Baldy’s already weak Will gradually collapses under the surge of desire.

Just as he’s about to act, a woman suddenly appears at the street corner not far away.

She’s wearing a townsfolk’s outfit and looks eight-tenths similar to Hamster, with the remaining two-tenths added with indescribable fiery allure.

No, Hamster isn’t his first love, this one is!

He can be certain!

Baldy walked straight towards the woman, murmuring, ”Why are you here?”

The woman replied softly, ”One hour for five Silver Coins, fifteen for overnight, only basic services, special items cost extra.”

”Add! Whatever you have, I’ll take it!” Baldy took out his earnings from the past two days, worried it wasn’t enough, and retrieved a Golden Leaf from his personal space.

These Golden Leaves, universally accepted across various instance Planes, are pricey, each costing a hundred Rotten Silver Coins and typically used to bribe in-instance officials, but Baldy couldn’t care less about that now.

Taking the Golden Leaf, the woman opened the door behind her, inviting him with temptation, ”Come in.”

Three minutes later, Baldy took a puff from his pipe, his gaze clear-minded.

As long as the pressure is released, his Will will revert to normal; thinking back to earlier, he felt a chilling fear, realizing if he’d truly done anything to Hamster, it would likely stir up trouble.

While he’s lost in ’sage time,’ contemplating life, a woman’s voice comes from behind.

”I find you quite nice; will you stay on this island?”

On Briff Island, with its strict Rules, finding a Special Professional isn’t easy. Remarkably, even with his Will back to normal, she still resembles his first love, increasingly so the more he looks.

”I’m staying a while longer; I’ll come back to see you when I have the time.”

”Can’t you stay forever?” the woman asked.

Baldy was puzzled, what’s going on, isn’t this just a temp gig? Why suddenly ask for a lifetime contract?

”I’m afraid not, I’ll be leaving in a while.”

”Oh,” the woman’s voice dimmed, sounding deeply disappointed.

Baldy felt a pang of discomfort, just as he intended to turn back and offer some comfort and maybe leave a couple more Golden Leaves if necessary.

Unexpectedly, before he could speak, a sudden, intense pain erupted from his abdomen.

The next moment, countless black iron spikes pierced from within him, turning his head and body into two sea urchins.

Baldy lowered his head to check his wounds, but his eyes had already been pierced out from the inside.

He opened his mouth but made no sound, the next moment, he fell to the ground with a thud and went completely still.

He couldn’t comprehend why his defense ability didn’t activate, nor understand why he suddenly turned as fragile as paper.

The woman stood up unhurriedly, picked up Baldy, who could now cosplay as a watering can filled with water, and nailed him onto the display wall inside.

”Now you can stay on the island forever.”

Midway through nailing, she suddenly sensed something, abruptly turning her head towards the outside, licking her lips.

At the edge of the town center area, there stands the town’s only garden, with a few small buildings surrounding it.

They’ve been specially designed, each with a unique structure, much more exquisite than the rigid town center buildings.

Wu Chang, with his True Self, stood in front of one of the small buildings, holding two bottles of wine, and knocked on the door.

The sound of footsteps soon came from the other side of the door; the door opened, and Morena appeared before him in a black nightdress, gesturing him inside.

”Come in, I thought you’d come a bit later.”

Morena lives alone with her home neat and stylishly decorated.

She brought out two baking trays from the kitchen, with seared steaks on them, accompanied by several roasted vegetables.

Her warmth retention was well done; when uncovering the insulation, steam was still rising from the food.

”Have you had dinner?”

”I had a bit at the restaurant.”

Morena wrinkled her nose adorably, ”At times like this, you should say you haven’t eaten. It doesn’t matter; you can join me for a little more.”

She sat Wu Chang down at the dining table, opened the wine that had just arrived today, and the pomegranate red, crystal-clear liquid shone splendidly in the candlelight.

”Try my cooking, see if it suits your taste.”

Truth be told, the dinner was particularly enjoyable.

Morena’s culinary skills aren’t bad, in fact, they could crush the restaurant chef, and this meal was the best Wu Chang had in an instance since the roast Golden Flying Fish.

Wine’s flowing, five dishes tasted.

With the tableware cleared, the barrier of the dining table between them was gone, drawing them closer together.

Morena today, exudes a mixed rose scent with musk, making it hard to resist.

But just as things were about to take a turn in a favorable direction, a knocking at the door interrupted them.

”Chief, something happened! The Great Statue of the Holy Mother collapsed, and the Bishop is aflame!”

The officer’s words outside the door were like cold water dashed on the flame in Morena’s eyes, quickly turning her gaze into that of the calm and collected Chief.

”I understand, you head over first; I’ll be there shortly.”

Morena expressionlessly dressed in her uniform, fastening her loose red hair into a bun, looked back at Wu Chang apologetically:

”I’m afraid tonight won’t be leisurely, if you can’t wait, you can go back first and come again tomorrow.”

Once Morena was dressed and left the room, Wu Chang only then snapped out of it as if awakening from a dream.

No way, we were halfway through the main event, how could it abruptly fall off the cliff like that?

So you’re saying you’ll be right there, not wrapping up here first but truly immediately?

You’ve gone, so what am I going to do?

At this moment, he slightly regretted his True Self’s fast killing in the Inner World.

Sometimes passing too quickly isn’t a good thing either.

He sighed, just about to leave for the day when another knock came from outside.

He put his shirt back on, opened the door, intending to say Morena had already hurried to the scene, but before he could speak, he discovered another Morena standing at the doorway.

”Were you just going to let me stay out here?”
