Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Help Me Take Off My Clothes

Wu Chang slowly turned his head and looked at Dr. Charles behind him, whose eyes were wide open, clearly not in a sleepwalking state, and waved his hand in greeting.

”What a coincidence, Dr. Charles, are you sleepwalking here too?”

The Charles in front of him looked even more haggard than during the day, almost to the point of being disheveled.

From the outside, he appeared like any other medical staff in the corridor, as if he had fought a battle with the white uniform he wore.

Although all ten of his fingernails were torn off and one arm was mangled by the white uniform, he also tore several large gaps in it with his hands.

The white uniform hung loosely on him at this moment, as if it could be blown away by a gust of wind.

Wu Chang glanced around the corridor and found that only Charles remained conscious, and only Charles had broken free from the white uniform.

He originally thought the white uniform granted medical staff special privileges, protecting their safety, but now it seemed the white uniform was more like a shackle.

Charles slowly approached and asked, word by word:

”I ask, what did you see in your dream? Was it the visceral bloom of fascia, the maggot-yielding prairie, the fat-boiling dunes, or the abyss-like pupils without depth.”

Wu Chang retreated as Charles approached, ”Sorry, I don’t dream when I sleep.”

The two moved, one forward and one back, nearly stepping into the area where other medical staff were sleepwalking. Wu Chang stopped, unwilling to retreat further.

He shouted loudly, ”I report, Dr. Charles has violated the fifth rule of admission and intends to harm me.”

At this, Charles’s body visibly shook, and he wanted to turn and flee, showing that even on the brink of madness, he maintained respect for hospital rules.

But after a few seconds, realizing there was no response to Wu Chang’s call, the fear on Charles’s face dissipated. He regained his crazed demeanor and said smugly:

”Shout all you want, it’s night now, they’re forced by the rules into sleep, no one can stop us.”

Wu Chang shook his head, the supposedly prompt response of medical staff to hallucinations mentioned in the admission notice didn’t seem effective.

”Can someone do something?”

As expected, this call also went unanswered.

”Then I’ll have to handle this myself.”

He sighed, flicked his hand, and Silver Dawn appeared directly in his hand from his portable space. He aimed at Charles’s chest and fired a silver bullet.

Charles didn’t expect Wu Chang to carry firearms, and before he could react, the silver bullet embedded in his chest.

The scorching bullet transformed into flames at Charles’s chest, growing with the wind, enveloping Charles in an instant, turning him into a human torch.

The burning Charles emitted a chilling scream, rolling and crawling away desperately.

Not one to miss an opportunity to finish off an opponent, Wu Chang naturally chased after Charles.

During the chase, he attempted to fire several shots, but his proficiency in firearms use wasn’t enough to hit a fast-moving target, and instead, he wasted two silver bullets without inflicting additional damage.

In the chase, Wu Chang quickly cornered Charles in a dead-end.

Charles curled up in the corner, and as the flames extinguished, his body was entirely charred black, exuding a rich meat aroma as the Maillard reaction was perfectly displayed.

The aroma of roasted meat made the sleepwalking medical staff drool; if they awoke from their dreams, they’d surely say to Charles, ”Brother, you smell delicious.”

Wu Chang was about to fire a couple more shots when he noticed Charles’s tremors from pain subsiding, his screams turning into gasping breaths of relief, followed by a hoarse ”thank you.”

Wu Chang furrowed his brows, what’s with the gratitude, could it be he’s met a masochist?

A gust of wind blew off the charred surface of Charles’s body, revealing his condition to Wu Chang.

The damage from the silver bullet was significant, but the flames, while burning Charles’s flesh, also severed his last connection to the white uniform, completely stripping the already shattered uniform from his body.

Fully free from the shackles of the white uniform, Charles stood up slowly from his crouch, a look of joy on his face as he moved his body.

”Thank you for your help, finally freeing me from that damned thing.”

Wu Chang sensed something amiss and fired immediately, but this time the bullet only hit Charles’s afterimage.

A shadow flickered before his eyes, and in an instant, Charles was right in front of him, strangling his neck and shoving him backward.

The next moment, it felt like being hit by a speeding truck, feet lifted off the ground, sent flying five or six meters before hitting a wall and stopping.

”What did you see in your dream?” Charles asked again, one hand gripping Wu Chang’s neck, pinning him against the wall.

Wu Chang: ”...”

Charles was a bit irritated, ”My patience is limited, one last chance, what did you see in the dream, or you die.”

Wu Chang: ”...”

”.” Charles’s eyes showed murderous intent, ready to strike.

”Ugh...” Wu Chang mustered all his strength, raised his arm, and patted Charles’s hand that was gripping his neck.

Charles realized and released his grip, letting Wu Chang slide down the wall to sit on the ground.

Wu Chang, gasping for air, picked up a piece of the white uniform from the ground, attached it to a wire as a white flag, and waved it above his head.

That attack from Charles nearly sent him spinning down memory lane.

If it weren’t for his body attributes being almost twice that of an average person, he’d be seeing his great-grandmother on the other side of the river by now.

A half-disabled elite enemy almost took him down with a casual strike.

This moment made him appreciate the allure of high-level instance metrics.

Where are my allies, where’s my team, come help!

Seeing Wu Chang gradually regain his breath, Charles posed the question once more, ”What did you see in your dream?”

Wu Chang had planned to mention Wolf from the underground floor, indicating they were on the same team, but just as he was about to speak, he noticed something, and with a peculiar expression said:

”I saw a person.”

”Who?” Charles asked in a displeased tone, it wasn’t the answer he wanted.

”Miss Julie.”

Charles became puzzled, and asked, ”Julie Smith? Why would you see her?”

Wu Chang pointed behind Charles and said, ”Because she’s right behind you.”

Charles: ”Hmm?”

Before Charles could react to the meaning of these words, a red line appeared on his neck.

The next moment, his head, full of confusion, rolled off his shoulders.

Wu Chang smirked, huh, fooled you, buddy, I have teammates hiding to counter-ambush, who fights you 1v1 on the road, can’t beat you, but can’t call for help either?

Behind Charles, Julie wiped the blood off the machete in her hand, lifted her nurse uniform’s skirt, and slid the machete back into the scabbard on her lace stocking strap.

”Mr. Sean, according to the admission notice, it’s not free activity time right now.”

Wu Chang immediately yawned, speaking with a dreamy tone of someone just awakened from a deep sleep, ”Where am I, how did I sleepwalk out of my room?”

Julie shook her head, resigned, and said, ”Mr. Sean, how did you know I would come help you?”

Wu Chang shrugged, answered in a matter-of-fact tone, ”You left the key underground for me to find you, didn’t you?”

”How did you know it was me who left it?”

Wu Chang sniffed, confidently said, ”Just a gut feeling.”

Julie rolled her eyes at him and said, ”Fine, it’s already come to this, let’s lay it all out, as people of the same kind, I need your help.”

People of the same kind, could you be a player too?

Wu Chang nonchalantly asked, ”How do you need me to help you?”

Julie grabbed the collar of her uniform and said, ”I need you to help me take off this outfit.”

”No problem!”

Wu Chang agreed readily, then lifted Silver Dawn, ”Shall we start now?”

Julie: ”?”
