Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The White Door

The blood-colored testament within the deep red resentment increased Wu Chang’s Life, Endurance, and Will Attributes by 1 point each, and increased the Inspiration Attribute by 2 points.

A total increase of 5 attribute points, equivalent to gaining a level.

Beyond the increase in attribute points, the more important aspect was the item drop.

The deep red resentment exploded, revealing a palm-sized medicine box, containing six slots for pills.

The owner of the resentment had used half; at this moment, there were three light blue pills left in the box.

”Item Name: Whisper of the Nameless.”

”Item Type: Consumables.”

”Artifact Level: C.”

”Item Description: After using the item, obtain the ’Forced Understanding’ status. Under the ’Forced Understanding’ status, no matter what happens, the user’s will will not drop to zero, and they will not suffer damage due to excessively low will. Duration: one minute.”

”Note: The inexplicable whispers fill my ears, it’s wonderful, I gradually understood everything.”

Wu Chang took out a pill to observe, discovering the pill constantly vibrating slightly, causing ripples to emerge on its smooth surface.

Quietly feeling it, it seemed to contain something inside.

It wasn’t a motor from some small toy, but a kind of elusive sound.

He placed the blue pill back into the personal space, storing it carefully.

From the Bloodthorn on the bus and the patients in Moonlight Sanatorium, it could be seen that will could be understood as another kind of health bar.

If the will drops below the safe value, people will fall into madness; if the will collapses to zero, they will become living dead.

Maintaining the will above zero can be considered an extremely effective survival item.

Though he’s a newbie who just joined the game, he could guess that in the Abyssal Game with no room for error, the preciousness of survival-type consumables is no less than items of the same level.

And the deep red resentment gave him three right off the bat!

The boss is generous!

But even more generous is Jinton, as the tyrant of the sanatorium, he violently dropped a wave of gold coins.

Not only did he immediately deliver two blood-colored testaments, but also exploded several quest items.

Oh good brother, calling you Jinton is somewhat unfair, you should be called a treasury.

Below the bed, besides the white key specifically mentioned by the blood-colored testament, there were dozens of unmarked miscellaneous items, a solid gold pocket watch, and a particularly striking black key.

This key he had seen on Julie; during the day Julie had stated that the sanatorium’s underground and fourth floor were forbidden zones for ordinary patients, and this black key could open the door to one of them.

The fourth floor of the sanatorium was the rest area for medical staff, accessible only by medical personnel.

The sanatorium’s underground is the intensive care ward; generally, patients can only be pushed in, not walk in.

The white key desired by deep red resentment corresponds to a hidden white door underground, presumably the black key corresponds to the underground.

With the Traveler’s Talisman, what would originally be a night fraught with peril unexpectedly allowed more freedom of movement than during the daytime.

With a long time until dawn, Wu Chang headed directly to the sanatorium’s underground.

Moonlight Sanatorium didn’t seem to provide equipment like the Traveler’s Talisman to medical staff, making the sanatorium exceedingly empty at night, without even a night patrolling nurse in sight.

This allowed him to act smoothly, descending all the way to the first floor, crossing several isolated iron gates, and using the black key to open the door to the underground area.

Upon entering the underground area, an acrid stench could be felt.

The layers of odor were complex and indescribable, like rotting meat thrown into a garbage bin filled with vomit and swill, then sun-baked for three days and nights before fermentation.

Inadvertently inhaling a little made Wu Chang momentarily dizzy; he scrambled back to the first floor, put on a heavy medical mask, and dared to return to the underground.

The layout of the underground floor resembled the ground-level wards, with the same corridor, similar room configuration, the only difference being the iron doors’ greater heft, and they could only be opened from the outside.

Peering through the iron gate’s grilles, he could see the patients in the intensive care wards, fastened to beds equipped with wheels, wrapped in layers of leather straitjackets, with chains secured outside.

Despite this, they continued to struggle, endeavoring to break free from their bonds.

Some even succeeded.

In Ward Three of the intensive care unit, the patient’s side had a fist-sized hole torn in the leather straitjacket.

Initially, Wu Chang thought the patient had used nails to rip through the straitjacket from the inside, but upon closer inspection, the ”fingers” emerging from the tear were stripped, bloody tentacles.

They were gnawing on one another with small mouths at the tips, corroding the leather straitjacket with the oozing blood.

Watching from outside the ward, Wu Chang furrowed his brow; is this really imagination disorder?

Further inside the intensive care unit was the sanatorium’s morgue.

Patients who died from imagination disorder were stored inside, still fixed in their bound postures, chained to the walls, awaiting burial in the town cemetery once it all ended.

Following the vision seen in resentment, he found a secret passage at the underground floor’s end, beyond which lay the pure white iron door seen in the deep red resentment.

Staring at the white door before him, he recalled the deep red resentment seen on Jinton.

The master of this resentment was stronger than both Mage and Gambler, in terms of both raw hard power and insight in navigating dungeons.

Whether due to excessive strength or some other special reason, this time the deep red resentment contained numerous fragments of information, more than any other resentment.

The resentment master was a doctor who, shortly after entering, used his strong business acumen to pass the sanatorium’s internal assessments and don a white coat to become a doctor.

Not only that, he could navigate the sanatorium at night even without the Traveler’s Talisman.

With his powerful strength and experienced player skills, he quickly conducted an initial exploration of the sanatorium and discovered the hidden room in the underground area.

To enter the room required unlocking the white door, but with his crisis perception, he sensed that forcing the door open without a key would invite danger.

After several days of secretly observing, he realized Jinton could freely enter and exit the white door, deciding to target Jinton.

Jinton acted cautiously and wasn’t weak, making it difficult to defeat him through force, so the doctor planned to use Jinton’s method to win the key through gambling.

Unfortunately, all players who gambled with Jinton died, and no one conveyed intelligence outside the dungeon, causing countless players to repeat the same mistakes with Jinton.

In the doctor’s eyes, a mere dungeon elite monster could be easily manipulated with just a flick of his finger.

But he didn’t know that Jinton at the gambling table had a special cheating ability, where even Gambler overturned his boat; a doctor unskilled at gambling naturally fell victim, dying abruptly at the gambling table.

Unlike Gambler, the doctor was obsessed with the white door, as though something beyond it was drawing him in.

Even within the resentment’s blood-colored testament, it still thought:

”Find a way to enter the white door.”

This is the Abyssal Game; even a seasoned player as strong as the doctor can face irreversible ruin by misstepping.

Wu Chang shook his head, redirecting his thoughts back to the present; he took out the white key, ready to see what was hidden behind the white door that the doctor yearned for.
