Reborn at Boot Camp: General, Don’t Mess Around!

Chapter 5517: Chapter 5517: Debate

Old Man Xia agreed, and Chief Engineer Fu’s gaze turned especially mournful—how could he return home to hear such explosive news?

He started to doubt... Had he come home too timely? If Little Six from the Xia family hadn’t come home, there definitely wouldn’t be any engagement.

Why did this boy have to come home for the New Year this year?!

Ye Jian was feeling a bit bitter, but when she suddenly saw Chief Engineer Fu’s mournful gaze, she wanted to laugh again.

Old Man Xia continued his earnest persuasion, ”Moreover, no matter where Ye Jian marries and lives in the future, she will always be our Fu family’s daughter. How did she become someone else’s now?”

”I really don’t like this kind of talk. Even if Ye Jian gets married, she will forever be my Fu family’s daughter. Just because she’s married doesn’t mean she’s no longer her own family! This way of thinking is incorrect and needs to change!”

By the last sentence, Old Man Xia had become very serious, his voice particularly stern, his face even set in a frown.

Chief Engineer Fu, with a pitiful and mournful gaze, glanced at his daughter and then said to Old Man Xia, ”Dad, I know what you mean, but just look at our girl—how old is she now? It’s really not good for the marriage to be settled so early.”

”You also said that Little Six from the Xia family really likes our girl. Since that’s the case, waiting another two years should be fine.” Chief Engineer Fu understood Old Man Xia’s point, but he just didn’t want to settle the matter so soon.

He thought about how his long-cherished daughter would soon become someone else’s wife, and nothing in his heart felt right; everything was uncomfortable and distressing.

The family’s cabbage was about to be taken by the pig!

Old Man Xia had a headache looking at his son, who appeared to be quite single-minded and unassailable in his conviction. How is it that this boy, grown so big, couldn’t even be reasoned with anymore?

”Ye Jian and Little Six are just talking about an engagement, not about getting married and registering right away. It’s something the kids are happy with, so what’s there for you to be unhappy about?”

”Dad, I really am not objecting. I agree to both the engagement and the wedding. It’s just that I think it’s too soon. An Jiaxin just graduated last year, and it’s only been a year since she started working—how could she get engaged so early? Let’s delay for another two or three years. By then, I’ll definitely agree!” Chief Engineer Fu was also trying to reason with Old Man Xia.

This matter required getting the old father to unite with him on the same front; they could not allow the enemy to split them into two opposing forces. At any rate, the family had to stick together!

He agreed to the engagement; it was only the timing he disagreed with!

”Are you perhaps still hoping that a better son-in-law will come along, one who’s even more suitable? So, you don’t want to rush into having Ye Jian engaged just in case it becomes a shackle! Look at your father, Ye Jian! Has he gone senile? I am nearly ninety years old and not as confused as he is!”

Old Man Xia was actually getting angry at Chief Engineer Fu.

Chief Engineer Fu hurriedly tried to placate Old Man Xia, ”Dad, Dad, Dad, please calm down, I’m not thinking about someone better or more suitable. In my heart, Little Six is the better and more suitable one, definitely the only choice for son-in-law. Accusing me of such—this is a true injustice!”

”I am really not disagreeing, nor do I have too many complicated thoughts. I simply and naively think the engagement is just a bit early. Our Jian is only twenty-three years old. She went to school early and graduated early. In your school, aren’t there people who graduate at the age of twenty-three? And even those who are a bit older are still graduate students, still students.”

”You can’t just because the two have been dating for a few years, assume that the time spent dating is enough to move on to engagement. We have to consider their actual ages and can’t switch concepts.”
