Death… And Me

Chapter 3791: Since When?

”Renkan, they are fleeing.” Gidui, another Level Three Umbra, said.

Renkan was the first Level Three Umbra that checked on Erxando and Xian. At that time, he didn’t think much of it, but that began to nag on his mind later. After a while, he changed direction and went after Erxando again, but this time, he made sure not to enter Erxando’s range.

Instead, he met other Umbras on the way and asked them if they had seen a Level One Umbra passing by. Sure enough, some ended up answering him, and Renkan began to get more curious. There was no doubt that Erxando was bringing that Level One Umbra to the Dark Purple Area. What did he want to do there? Renkan wasn’t sure.

In the end, Renkan told another three Umbras of his suspicion, and they joined together to block Erxando’s way. To be honest, Renkan tried a few other Umbras too. It’s just that only those three were bored enough to go with him. In any case, it just felt too weird to have a Level One Umbra being dragged around this place. If Erxando’s objective was the Dark Purple Area, he would have to pass through them first.

”Renkan, I won’t waste time pursuing Erxando just because of that Level One Umbra,” Ranwrui commented, another Level Three Umbra of the quartet.

Vravrin, the last Level Three Umbra, shook his head in disappointment. ”I knew this was meaningless. First of all, what exactly did we expect to get from Erxando anyway? We might as well separate here.”

In their eyes, Erxando didn’t think twice before turning around and fleeing. That took Renkan and the others by surprise momentarily, but that was about it. Erxando did the obvious and didn’t try to approach them for no reason.

But then it dawned on Renkan. ”Shit! He is not fleeing! Who said he has to approach the Dark Purple Area through this route? He can simply go around and do the same!”

Vravin, Ranwrui, and Gidui looked at him. ”So?”

”Are we just letting him do as he pleases? Something smells fishy. What if he found some kind of secret? It is obvious he wants to do something in the Dark Purple Area, the same area none of us ever managed to enter,” Renkan pointed out.

The three Umbras had to admit it was a curious move from Erxando. ”If that’s the case, then is there a reason for us to be doing this at all? We might as well go to the border of the Umbral Field and capture a Level One Umbra there before bringing him here. Why do we have to care about Erxando’s Umbra?”

”Because we don’t know what he is planning to do? Think about it,” Renkan continued. ”You go to the border, capture an Umbra, and come back here. And then what? Come on, guys! Do you really have anything to lose here other than a little bit of time?”

”If it turns out to be nothing, then so be it. We go our separate ways. But if there is really something to it, would you forgive yourselves later, knowing you lost some kind of big chance? Nothing ever, ever, ever happens in this piece of shit place, so at the very least, this can be considered as a little entertainment.”

Of course, even Renkan knew that he was shooting in the dark. He knew nothing, and in fact, not even the twins’ group knew anything. It’s just that these Umbras truly didn’t have anything better to do; it was that simple. A Level Three Umbra’s life is simply about hunting Level Two Umbras, and that’s all.

Vravin, Ranwrui, and Gidui pondered a bit. All that conversation seemed long, but it also lasted just a second. ”Fine, shall we pursue them?”

Renkan was delighted to hear that. There is only so much he can do alone in a situation like this. ”Gidui, you are the fastest among us, so you go and stay on Erxando’s tail. Of course, don’t fight him. It is not worth the risk. Just leave a tiny bit of your shadow energy to us so we can tell where you are. We will block the path to the Dark Purple Area once Erxando tries to come close again.”

Gidui nodded and passed a little bit of his Shadow Energy. He wasn’t concerned about others knowing where he was, as he could cut the connection with that energy anytime he wanted. ”Very well.”

Finally, he changed into his Dark Cloud Form, shooting into the distance.

Back on the twins’ side, Kentucky flew away while carrying everyone. Meanwhile, Erxando and Xian checked on the other Level Three Umbras. ”One of them is pursuing us.”

”Only one, not all four?” Kentucky asked.

”Yes.”

Rean and Roan were unbothered. ”Do whatever you want, just bring us around.”

”Sure...” Kentucky didn’t mind. ”Xian, Erxando, is that guy falling back?”

The two focused on the Umbra. ”No, he is actually keeping the same distance from us, not getting close or far.”

”So he just wants to follow us, uh?” Kentucky smiled. ”Let’s increase our speed a little bit.”

Kentucky’s wings flapped once more, gathering Wing Element under them from inside the Dimensional Realm. Even if Wind wasn’t Kentucky’s affinity, he was still a Demon Bird, after all. Immediately, Kentucky’s speed increased by another 30%, feeling completely unfazed.

Gidui obviously noticed Erxando and Xian’s increase in speed. ”Hum? Is he trying to leave me behind? Oh, right... he only knows there is a Level Three Umbra pursuing him. He doesn’t know it’s me. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have tried this. Oh well, let’s show him how he is wasting his time and Emotional Energy.”

Gidui was also a Wind Element user. The fake Wind Element also gathered around Gidui, and his laws of Wind supported his cloud body. In a moment, his speed increased, matching Kentucky’s once again. ”Erxando can definitely fly faster than this, but he will waste a lot more energy than I if he does so. He will probably give up now.”

Yet, that only made Kentucky more enthusiastic. ”Hey, that guy isn’t too shabby. Let’s change gears once more.”

Kentucky played, and his speed increased again, now by another 30%.

Gidui matched Kentucky...

Then another 30%...

Gidui matched again...

And another 30%...

This time, Gidui had a terrible expression. ”What the fuck is happening?! Since when did Erxando become this fast?!”
