Death… And Me

Chapter 3759: Simple? Just for Roan!

Rean and Tanxan actually had the same thought. ”Indeed. There is no lack of guinea pigs for everyone to use. As to who uses them, they are likely the same ones who are accessing the Werdlem Network from this Universe.”

”Are we doing anything about it?” Foliana asked.

However, Rean and Roan had no intention of intervening in whatever was happening here. ”As if! For a Universe of this size to be used in such a way, you can be sure that a much higher-ranked Universe is involved. Probably a Rank B or A. Who knows, it might be the only Rank S Universe, the Werdllem Universe itself, that holds the grip of this place. Doing something to end the lab would definitely attract way too much attention.”

Kentucky sighed in relief. ”Good, good. Just thinking about trying to stop what is happening here already gives me a headache.”

Celis returned to the main topic. ”Alright, we know how the Temporal Paths are made. What now? Are we using them?”

”Obviously,” Roan snorted. ”Regardless of whether we sacrifice someone or not, the temporal paths will open. Since they will be opened, we might as well make good use of them.”

Rean brought the map up, showing this region of the Underworld. Even though they are in a capital, this city isn’t listed on the locations where temporal paths can be opened. There are tens of millions of such locations, but just how gigantic is the Universe? Obviously, the distance between each one is ridiculously high.

”The closest one is in a region called Frutuo, Trombel City, and it sure is far from this place. Well, with Kentucky on our side, we still should be able to make our way there in twenty or so years,” Rean explained.

”Sigh...” Kentucky already missed the other universes. ”Such a distance would have been covered in seconds with a Spatial Gate.”

Roan glanced at him. ”That’s why we are going to use Spatial Gates.”

Everyone froze on the spot, looking straight at Roan. ”What did you say?”

”We are going to use Spatial Gates,” Roan repeated his words. ”Like hell I’m waiting this long just to get to the temporal path. We don’t have any Starlight Energy remaining, and the Underworld’s concentration of natural Starlight is abysmal compared to the Divine Realm and even the Mortal Realm. We wouldn’t be able to progress in cultivation at all. Naturally, we have to use Spatial Gates.”

”But... what about the Shadow Beings? Behind the Fabric of Space is their territory, the place they are all sealed for who knows how long, and you saw just how bloated that place is with those things.” Rean also didn’t understand what Roan was planning.

”Hmph!” Yet, Roan didn’t seem the least bit worried. ”For normal experts, that might indeed be a suicide call. But it is another story in our case. Those things will aim for the soul, trying to possess us. Since that’s the case, we just need to ignore them and let the Celestial Soul System do its job. It should protect us.”

Rean immediately noticed a problem. ”Wait, but they aren’t just some soul-based things. They have REAL strength! You fought them with me when I opened the Spatial Gate. If they attack us while we are there, the system’s soul protection feature won’t be of much use. They can cause real physical damage. Besides, there are bound to be much stronger ones there since they have been accumulating for countless years. Kentucky even felt one at the Divinity Realm level that tried to force the gate wider, and the Spatial Gate was only opened for a few seconds.”

Roan wasn’t worried. ”Let’s go out of the city. I’ll show you something.”

They all looked at each other, but did as Roan said. Rean and Kentucky came out, quickly leaving the city in the next moment. With Kentucky’s speed, they were already thousands of kilometers away in no time. Finally, Kentucky landed on an empty location, and Roan came out of the Dimensional Realm.

Roan didn’t explain anything. Instead, he went straight for a Spatial Gate. A cutting motion could be seen, and a tiny gap in space appeared.

*Uuwuwwuuuuu!!!*

Sure enough, those shadow beings began to escape nonstop, and Kentucky quickly closed the Spatial Gate before it could be enlarged. Rean fought the shadow beings again, cutting them with the Elemental Intent Sword as sparks of Bright Red Lightning danced everywhere.

However, when they looked in Roan’s direction, the shadow beings that went for him didn’t attack! Instead, they circulated around Roan like little pets. They often entered Roan’s body, disappearing inside. Roan, on the other hand, seemed completely fine.

Meanwhile, the system kept popping up messages in the twins’ minds.

[Foreign...

Rean and Kentucky were skeptical, so they didn’t approach, afraid they would attract the shadow beings in their direction. ”How come they aren’t attacking you?”

Roan had a blank expression, but still spoke through their connection. ’These things were born from emotions, and it is one’s emotions that attract them. If we show hostility towards them, they feel it, and start attacking while also trying to possess us. In fact, any emotion will do. So, as long as you kill all your emotions and have an empty mind, they won’t feel any threat, and will simply try to enter your body to possess your soul. Of course, the system completely eliminates them when they try it.’

He continued. ’It’s actually even better this way. They are completely defenseless when trying to possess, so the system has quite an easy time with them. Their strength matters not.’

[Roan is right!] Sister Orb was just as surprised. [The system is destroying them all, but it is using almost nothing of its power. To think it was this simple...]

Rean and Kentucky bitterly smiled. Simple? Neither Rean nor Kentucky had any confidence whatsoever that they could kill all their emotions. Rean even tried the ’meditation’ thing once, and all he felt was the urge to bash his head against a rock. Maybe if they knock themselves out, they might be able to reach a similar state... as long as they don’t start dreaming.

Finally, the last shadow being tried to take over Roan’s soul and died in the process.

”It’s decided. From now on, Roan will be traveling alone in this Universe,” Rean and Kentucky said at the same time.

Roan’s blank expression disappeared, already expecting that. Well, the non-blank expression and the blank one looked exactly the same, though. ”So be it.”

From inside the Dimensional Realm, Zangeshu had a question. ’Since senior Roan can use Spatial Gates, is there even a need to use the Temporal Paths?’

Rean answered that. ’There is. To travel between realms without external help, one would need a cultivation at the Divinity Realm at the very least. It’s not about strength, but about the laws of the Universe. We obviously are not there yet, so we can’t traverse the barrier between realms.’

Roan didn’t want to wait anymore. ”Alright, the two idiots go back to the Dimensional Realm. I’m going to open another Spatial Gate.”

”Wait!” Rean stopped him. ”What about the Spatial Gate and the shadow beings? If you enter the Spatial Gate and leave, the shadow beings will definitely flood it and start attacking the surrounding region.”

Roan was going to say that the Devils would do something about it, but he knew Rean wouldn’t just let it go. ”So what do you propose?”

*Zush, zush!*

Immediately, Rean brought Tanxan and Zangeshu out of the Dimensional Realm. ”Simple, we can make a formation that will kill the shadow beings and close the Spatial Gate. Alright, let’s get to work!”
