The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 2378: Chapter 2378: Envied (4)

Dong Wenxiu and Feng Zilan are widows. The local custom here is that widows bringing New Year greetings to others is considered inauspicious, so Yang Baixiang and Yang Ruxin went separately to make the rounds.

The two of them first visited the houses of their third and fourth paternal uncles, and then went to the village head’s home.

Sanni and the others were impatient with how slow Yang Ruxin was, so they had already dashed off to run around vaguely.

But on this day of universal celebration, when the entire village was lively, the sound of cursing came from the entrance of one family’s home.

Sanni, who loved excitement the most, quickly led the others over to rush there. It turned out to be Goudan’s house. At this time, Yang Huangshi was standing at the entrance with an angry face, cursing not any particular person but instead the person who tore down their couplets.

Yang Guofu was standing by with a stern face as well.

Yesterday, Goudan personally wrote those couplets. The couple happily pasted them up, but when they got up early today, they discovered that some unscrupulous person had torn them down.

Goudan’s eyes were red; these were couplets he had written. His parents couldn’t have been happier, and he’d even been praised by the teacher. His ancestor also complimented him, encouraging him to take the imperial exams to become a Champion in the future. But now, it was all ruined.

At this moment, while everyone else was exchanging New Year greetings, many people gathered here in the middle of the village, near Third Uncle’s house. They all joined together in criticism, agreeing this was an ill-mannered deed that was not justifiable.

”Goudan’s mom, did you offend someone?” Chen Yingzi cracked sunflower seeds with a tone of gloating inquiry, ”Otherwise, why is it that only your family’s was torn and not mine?”

The two families lived front and back.

”Whom did I offend?” Yang Huangshi yelled, ”Even if I did offend someone, they should just tell me face to face. I can admit my mistake if they point at my nose and curse at me, but who acts so mean-spirited?”

Chen Yingzi shut her mouth but wore a disdainful look.

”This was done on purpose.” Sanni stepped forward to pick up the red paper on the ground, ”Fourth Aunt, I don’t think it was because you offended someone. It must be someone’s jealousy toward you guys.”

Because Yang Guofu was the fourth among the grandchildren of Third Uncle, everyone either called her Fourth Aunt, Fourth Sister-in-law, or Fourth Granny.

”What is there to be jealous of in my family?” Yang Guofu frowned.

”Fourth Uncle, Goudan and Xiaofeng study together and are often praised by the teacher. Now that the teacher praised this couplet too, someone must be jealous.” Sanni shrugged.

”Damn this terrible deed, how wicked can someone be?” Yang Huangshi became even more enraged, her face turning red and her neck swelling, ”If you’re capable, send your own son to school too; what does being jealous accomplish?”

”Fourth Aunt, even if you curse until you’re out of breath, it won’t matter if they want to tear them down again. It’s just angering yourself.” Sanni’s eyes darted around, ”We need to find a way to catch the person responsible.”

”What Sanni says is right.” Third Uncle, who had come over, nodded in agreement, ”This is not about a pair of couplets; this is moral corruption.”

”Mengmeng, any idea how we should find the culprit?” Yang Guofu pulled his wife over and approached Sanni, ”If you can find out, Fourth Uncle will thank you.”

”Fourth Uncle, I don’t have that capability, but my eldest sister does.” Sanni smiled, ”As long as she gets involved, we’ll definitely find the person responsible.”

Zhou Xiao couldn’t help sighing, not adding trouble for the older sister, was he?

Yang Guofu hesitated for a moment, wondering if such a small issue required disturbing Yang Ruxin.

”My eldest sister hates those who disrupt harmony and stability in the village, she’ll definitely agree to help.” Sanni spoke with assurance, ”Everybody wait here. I’ll go find my sister right away and be back soon.” With that, she turned and ran off.
