The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 1989: Chapter 1989: Suspect (5)

”But my Zhengzheng is just gone like this?” The eyes of the Princess of Anning reddened, ”Just gone like this, she was so young, not yet married. The Empress Dowager said she was auspicious, but why...”

”Isn’t that what we’re investigating?” Xu Donglin still held the hand of the Princess of Anning, ”You wouldn’t want Zhengzheng to die with unresolved grievances, would you?”

Anning sniffled, ultimately saying nothing more.

”Originally, Zhengzheng was reminded to take her medicine on time, but yesterday, for some unknown reason, it was delayed until the evening.” Xu Donglin did not look at his wife, but instead glanced apologetically at Yang Ruxin, ”This might need to be asked of Xiaojuan.”

Yang Ruxin nodded slightly towards Xu Donglin. Regarding the Xu Family, Yang Ruxin actually felt quite sympathetic. In the time of Gaozong, he was actually wary of his own brothers. Although Qi Tai wasn’t Gaozong’s real brother, just a cousin, he was also valiant in battle back then. Although he was sent to the fiefdoms early, since ancient times, monarchs have been distrustful, and even if sent to fiefdoms, they wouldn’t want to see them develop too strongly.

Therefore, Gaozong early on conferred the title of County Princess to Qi Tai’s eldest daughter and gave her a fiefdom, but the marriage of this County Princess could absolutely not be too high-ranking, or rather, anyone who married the County Princess would not have a high-ranking status.

Among the two brothers of the Xu Family, Xu Donglin was the second son and could not inherit the family estate. Despite his decent scholarly accomplishments, he only reached the position of Junior Minister in the Ministry of Rites, which managed vehicles, horses, and pastureland. The head of this department was the Minister of Rites.

Without holding power or being in a critical or important position, no matter how capable Xu Donglin was, he couldn’t rise.

It was actually similar to Jiang Fangfei’s father, Jiang Yifan, who married Princess Qi Rong and had no way to advance his career, but the Emperor compensated the Jiang Family by granting Jiang Fangfei the title of County Princess, still with a fiefdom.

You can enjoy wealth and luxury, but you absolutely cannot wield power.

While contemplating, Xiaojuan was brought over again.

However, she seemed somewhat hesitant in response to Yang Ruxin’s question.

Bang! Suddenly, the Court Hammer was struck from above: ”Speak.”

Xiaojuan shivered in fright, hastily knocking her head on the ground: ”The servant says... it’s because after taking the two previous pills, the lady was indeed better and didn’t relapse, so the lady didn’t want to take them, thinking it unnecessary... but in the morning she didn’t take any, and by night she started itching again, so... so she took the remaining one...”

Yang Ruxin shook her head with a smile, then looked at Marquis Jiang: ”Next, I would like to ask the two coroners.” After receiving permission, she looked at the two coroners, ”Gentlemen, were there any other fatal injuries on Wang Zhengzheng’s body?”

The two coroners shook their heads simultaneously, with the leading one then speaking: ”I examined very carefully, and not only were there no wounds on the body, but not even a trace of anything extra...”

Yang Ruxin nodded, then looked again at Marquis Jiang: ”I have nothing to say, but I do not plead guilty. After all, Wang Zhengzheng wasn’t the only person in Beijing who took my medicine pill; dozens of people took it, yet why is everyone else fine?”

”Though that may be, but you are the Divine Doctor, familiar with various poisons.” The Minister of Justice, Guo Hong, sighed, ”So, if the real murderer cannot be found, and you cannot prove your true innocence, then your suspicion cannot be excluded...”
