After signing with AC Milan, I will be the king of football!

Chapter 1588: Chapter 441: Whose Squad Is Bolt On?

Even the room was arranged with four suites.

The situation between the Big shot and Abramovich is quite similar, both are careless about money for the sake of influence.

However, in comparison, the Big shot is wealthier.

After the waiter had settled everyone in, he served some drinks.

The tray also held exquisite boxes.

Huang Kaiwen opened one to find a watch, he looked up at the waiter.

”Gifts prepared by the hotel for you and your ladies.”

The waiter said with a smile.

Huang Kaiwen:...

A meeting gift of over a million euros, huh.

Lily held the ivory diamond-studded watch lovingly, mainly because she was happy she didn’t have to pay for it herself.

”Did you give one to Sergio?”

Huang Kaiwen asked.

”Yes, Mr. Ramos has one too.”

The waiter said.

”Alright, then that’s all.”

”Call on us if you need anything.”

The waiter quickly left the room.

Shakira was also fiddling with hers excitedly.

She had signed with many brands, but as an ambassador, those sponsors were never this generous.

”They really treat you well.”

Shakira said holding the watch.

”Because I have what they need.”

Huang Kaiwen replied.

It’s not that the Big shot values the Yellow Ball King, anyone with such influence could receive this kind of treatment.

It’s just business.

”Is that so, but it’s still you who has motivated them to do this.”

Shakira bent down and reached out, saying: ”I’ve always wondered if watches can be worn in other spots.”

...

The Big shot bidding for the Laureus Award is also for expanding influence.

While having lunch, Huang Kaiwen saw quite a few familiar faces.

”Hi, Kevin!”

Federer greeted from behind the dining table.

”Long time no see, how have you been lately?”

Huang Kaiwen asked directly as he sat down.

”Not bad, but after the awards, it might not be great. Feels like I’ll lose to you again this year.”

Federer joked.

At the beginning of 2010, he won the Australian Open, but his performance in the past few months was at a low.

Federer was very clear that he’s here to run alongside.

”You’ll regain your form sooner or later, Roger.”

Huang Kaiwen comforted.

Federer had not yet reached retirement.

The two chatted for a while when the world motorcycle champion, Italian racer Valentino Rossi, came over to greet.

Federer stood up and said, ”I’ll go prepare for a bit, you guys chat.”

”He doesn’t seem to like me?”

Rossi glanced at Huang Kaiwen and asked.

”He’s probably just not familiar with you.”

Huang Kaiwen smiled and asked: ”Is your injury better?”

He had met Rossi a few times while playing in Italy, and they had good conversations.

This year, Rossi represented the Yamaha Team and was injured at the Mugello Circuit. Huang Kaiwen had noticed the news.

”Not bad, but I still won’t win Best Athlete this year either.”

Rossi feigned a sigh and said: ”Living in the same era as you is really frustrating, a player who can still win in the World Championship.”

Huang Kaiwen shrugged and said smilingly: ”Then I’ll take a break this year and enjoy a nice summer vacation.”

”Forget about it, I wouldn’t win anyway.”

Rossi said.

He was nominated for Best Male Athlete in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2009, but it was always just running alongside.

In the past ten years, Rossi never missed a World Championship as champion.

Even winning couldn’t get him the award; he had lost hope in the Laureus Award.

One can’t possibly be like Huang Kaiwen, winning a motorcycle World Championship on one hand, and competing in other events to clinch another championship.

After exchanging a few words, the two left separately.

Around 4 PM, Ramos came knocking on the door to remind: ”It’s time to get ready, Kevin.”

”Come in.”

Huang Kaiwen replied.

The three were having a meal in the room.

Lily and Shakira were changing clothes in the inner room.

Huang Kaiwen had long changed and was sitting on the sofa watching TV.

”I just ran into Messi; he’s also nominated.”

Ramos said while glancing at the TV.

”Oh, I didn’t know.”

Huang Kaiwen said.

Since Messi was here, later he’d ask about his contract issues.

The biggest problem with the Ball King is his soft heart; this summer it might not be possible to persuade him to transfer.

If necessary, wait for the contract to expire and sign him for free, offering Messi a bigger signing fee then.

After 6 PM.

Everyone went downstairs.

The Laureus Award was held right in the hotel’s hall.

As soon as Huang Kaiwen arrived at the venue, many approached to greet him.

Last year’s world champion, British F1 driver Jenson Button, stopped Huang Kaiwen and said: ”Can we take a photo, Kevin, I’m your fan.”

”Of course.”

Huang Kaiwen said with a smile.

Ramos took the other’s phone to help with the photo.

Serena Williams was walking over to the group, Button whispered: ”That woman might be interested in you; she was constantly expressing her desire to meet you.”

Huang Kaiwen:...

Her arms were thick as the Yellow Ball King’s calves; she doesn’t fit Huang Kaiwen’s aesthetics at all.

Huang Kaiwen quickly pulled Lily and Shakira to their seats.

After a while, the award ceremony began.

The host first praised former NBA Rockets star Mutombo, who has been involved in charity work for many years, building hospitals and other charitable facilities in his hometown. To honor his contributions, Mutombo received the Special Contribution Award.

Such awards have no real candidates.

It’s already decided beforehand who they’re being given to.

The Best Disabled Athlete Award then went to South African swimming athlete Natalie Du Toit, who lost her left leg below the knee from a motorcycle accident while returning home. After resting for three months, she made a comeback, and at both the Athens Paralympics and Yanjing Paralympics, she won five gold medals.

Huang Kaiwen truly admired these disabled athletes.

Their mental fortitude is unparalleled.

Not only that, but Du Toit also participated in several regular swimming competitions. Although she didn’t achieve notable results, competing against physically fit athletes is admirable in itself.

Every disabled athlete who makes it into the Laureus Award has a story worthy of a motivational movie.

Du Toit placed her trophy on the podium and said, supporting herself on the table with both hands: ”I’ve always longed for a day like this. Yes, I’ve always been yearning for awards, that’s why I never gave up on myself. I’ve seen many people waste time, but my experiences taught me that if I want to win the championship, I must act early. I have no time to waste, so I’ve always been working hard. In the past few years, I heard a very motivating story; an athlete was injured over 100 times yet continued running on the green field. His story motivated and empowered me. Kevin, thank you, your continued return to the field motivated me and many others, thank you.”

Huang Kaiwen stood up and applauded, hugging Du Toit when she left the stage.

There is quite a big gap between the Yellow Ball King and such true warriors.

Following this, the Best Extreme Athlete of the Year was claimed by Australian surfer Stephanie Gilmore.

The Best Comeback Award went to Belgian tennis player Kim Clijsters.

As the awarding ceremony went on, Lily asked nervously: ”Will you win Best Athlete?”

”Have faith.”

Huang Kaiwen said, patting Lily’s hand.

The nominees for Best Male Athlete were: Messi, Huang Kaiwen, Contador, Bolt, Federer, Rossi.

Huang Kaiwen had already reviewed the accomplishments of these individuals before.

Messi goes without saying; even if the Ball King wins the championship, it’s hard for him to bag the award, especially since football is a team sport.

Federer and Rossi both lost their championships, while continuing in a slump, so they could only run alongside.

Although Alberto Contador had good results, the Tour de France hadn’t started yet this year, last year’s champion was a long time ago, and cycling’s popularity is just so-so.

Bolt did win quite a few championships, having just won the Daegu Grand Prix.

However, apart from football, the Yellow Ball King also claimed the World Championship 800m title, and the demonstration-like darts championship before that. He may not match Bolt in sprints, but when it comes to winning awards, Bolt can’t compare to the Yellow Ball King.
