Chapter 226: You’re Also a Fiend?

The monkey fiend’s entire body throbbed with pain, and he felt as if every bone in his body had been broken.

He tried to struggle to his feet, but Chu Qiguang stomped down on the back of his head, crushing his face into the soil.

I wish I were back in my peak condition, Qiao Zhi lamented inwardly, watching with a hint of envy in his eyes as Chu Qiguang crushed the monkey fiend. If I were at my peak right now, I could also make short work of this monkey fiend. Chu Qiguang is improving so quickly! I really want to use his body again soon. If only I could turn him into a cat before using his body. That way, I’d be able to use all my feline martial arts.

The monkey fiend thrashed around violently, still trying to clamber to his feet, but his flailing blows on Chu Qiguang’s body were about as effective as arrows striking a mountain.

Chu Qiguang stomped him deeper and deeper into the soil, breaking more of his bones and tendons in the process. Before long, the monkey fiend’s struggles grew increasingly feeble.

Intense fear and regret instantly welled up in Zhang Jitian’s heart.

If I had known how strong he was, I would’ve never attacked him! He’s definitely not going to let me off after what I just tried to do to him. Once he kills that monkey, I’ll be next! No, I have to find a way to save myself...

With that in mind, he slowly began backing away, trying to sneak away without drawing Chu Qiguang’s attention.

Once I get back, I’ll go to my father and uncle, then pin the blame for everyone that the monkey fiend killed on him!

Even at such a young age, Zhang Jitian was already beginning to display the makings of the unscrupulous politician he would later become.

He knew there was no longer any possibility of resolving this peacefully, so Chu Qiguang had to die.

Fifth-state martial artists had yet to reach the Dao Comprehension state, which meant they were still human and possessed bodies of flesh and blood. With enough soldiers, archers, and martial artists at his disposal, Zhang Jitian was confident that he could reduce any fifth-state martial artist to mincemeat.

However, he first had to make it home alive.

He had only retreated about ten steps when Chu Qiguang suddenly turned toward him and asked, ”Where’re you going? Get back here!”

”Be careful!” Zhang Jitian immediately yelled, feigning concern. ”That monkey fiend has companions, I’m going to the nearest county to call for reinforcements!”

He then turned and fled as quickly as he could, covering more than a hundred meters in the blink of an eye.

However, his explosive burst of speed was still no match for Chu Qiguang’s Star Shifting Cloud Piercing Step, and he was brought to a screeching halt when Chu Qiguang grabbed him by the back of his collar, leaving him utterly astonished.

How is he this fast? There’s no way someone with his level of physical strength should also be this fast and agile! It doesn’t make sense!

Before Zhang Jitian had a chance to resist, Chu Qiguang seized him firmly by the back of the neck, preventing him from drawing upon his qi and blood.

”What’re you doing?” Zhang Jitian asked frantically. ”That monkey fiend is going to get away!”

”You’ve seen too much, so I can’t let you leave,” Chu Qiguang said with a smile. He then pressed a finger against Zhang Jitian’s glabella, while the latter could only stare back in horror and despair.

However, after a moment of contemplation, Chu Qiguang suddenly withdrew his finger and remarked, ”It feels like too much of a waste to kill you like this. I’m sure you had to work hard in your cultivation for many years to reach the fifth state, so it’d be a shame for you to die here for nothing.”

Zhang Jitian immediately began nodding frantically in agreement. Chu Qiguang casually knocked him unconscious, then turned his attention back to the monkey fiend, who had only just managed to struggle to his feet and draw the saber on his back.

He was clearly terrified of Chu Qiguang, but he saw no option other than to fight to the bitter end. Humans and fiends were sworn enemies in the Great Han Empire, so surrendering or begging for mercy had never even crossed his mind.

However, the fear in his eyes quickly turned to astonishment as Chu Qiguang lightly struck several points across his body. In the blink of an eye, he transformed into a huge, silver cat.

”You’re also a fiend?!” the monkey fiend exclaimed. He immediately lowered his saber, and a look of immense relief appeared on his face. ”Hold on, you just used the Primordial High Zenith Qigong... You managed to infiltrate the Demon Vanquishing Department? I understand now! You must’ve been planted there by Layman Evergreen!

”No wonder he summoned all of us to attack Jade Face Mountain! If even someone like you has been planted in the Demon Vanquishing Department to help us from the inside, then those bastards don’t stand a chance!”

An origin story for Chu Qiguang had rapidly taken shape in the monkey fiend’s mind.

”What’re you talking about?” Chu Qiguang asked with a raised eyebrow. ”I don’t have a clue what you’re saying.”

”Still keeping up the act, I see. You’re a true professional!” the monkey fiend praised. ”No wonder you were able to infiltrate the Demon Vanquishing Department. Rest assured, I won’t breathe a word of this to anyone.”

Chu Qiguang stared at the monkey fiend in exasperated silence for a moment, then decided to go along with it.

”Why did you attack those people?” he asked. ”Aren’t you afraid of raising the alarm?”

”Some other fiends attacked them first,” the monkey fiend explained. ”I only came in to mop things up at the end.”

Chu Qiguang continued strategically questioning the monkey fiend to extract more information out of him, and he quickly uncovered an elaborate plan to attack Jade Face Mountain.

Are these the fiends who will later attack Jade Face Mountain?
