Scripture of Days Past

Chen Gang instinctively sprang into action at the sight of Zhang Jitian rapidly approaching. He picked up a rock and hurled it at him.

Unfortunately, his power as a second-state martial artist was nowhere near enough to deter Zhang Jitian, who pulverized the projectile with a palm strike and a disdainful sneer.

Faced with Zhang Jitian’s overwhelming aura, Chen Gang felt as if the sky had fallen onto his head, filling him with a crushing sense of despair and powerlessness.

He’s so strong! Who is he?

All of a sudden, a hand reached out from beside Chen Gang and intercepted Zhang Jitian’s palm strike.

Chu Qiguang only needed to channel the first level of his Heavenly Demon Vanquishing Palms to overpower Zhang Jitian with ease.

An astonished look appeared on Zhang Jitian’s face as he felt the tremendous force behind Chu Qiguang’s palm.

Never had he imagined that there would be such a formidable martial artist among two random passersby in this forest.

However, he knew that retreat wasn’t an option. Gritting his teeth, he channeled his qi and blood with all his might and thrust both arms forward like a pair of mighty pillars to oppose Chu Qiguang’s palm strike, but his efforts proved completely futile.

The instant his arms made contact with Chu Qiguang’s palm, he felt as if he had crashed into a moving mountain. The impact sent him flying backward through the air.

After tumbling through the forest like a ragdoll, he clambered unsteadily to his feet and coughed up a mouthful of blood.

That single clash had already inflicted severe injuries upon him, and he felt as if his entire body were on the verge of falling apart.

Chu Qiguang could see a single tentacle extending from Zhang Jiyuan’s shadow, indicating that the latter had clearly only recently reached the fifth state.

”Why’re you attacking us? And who are you running from?” Chu Qiguang asked.

Before Zhang Jitian had a chance to answer, a beastly howl rang out in the distance. A venomous look of resentment appeared in his eyes as he spat through gritted teeth, ”It’s too late! You two are going to have to die with me!”

Chu Qiguang brows furrowed slightly as a black shadow rose into the distant sky before crashing like a meteorite nearby with a resounding boom.

More than a dozen large trees were felled as a giant, black monkey, standing over three meters tall, emerged from the cloud of dust and debris. A massive saber over two meters long was strapped to his back.

His bright, red eyes were filled with callous disdain as he said, ”Fighting among yourselves? That certainly makes my job easier!”

Chu Qiguang was very surprised to see four tentacles extending from the shadow beneath the monkey fiend’s feet.

Why is there such a powerful fiend so close to Jade Face Mountain? Four tentacles are emerging from its shadow, which means he’s roughly on par with Yang Ling.

Zhang Jitian stared at the monkey fiend in horror. He had just witnessed the creature rip all of his companions to shreds like a wolf tearing through a flock of sheep.

The monkey fiend was incredibly strong, capable of smashing accomplished martial artists into piles of mincemeat with ease. His black fur was incredibly tough, repelling all of Zhang Jitian’s attacks like a suit of armor.

”Which one should I eat first?” the monkey fiend chuckled as it licked its lips.

He circled Chu Qiguang’s trio, inspecting them from different angles as if he were a customer choosing meat at a butcher’s shop.

Chu Qiguang was completely unfazed as he asked, ”Aren’t you afraid of the Demon Vanquishing Department?”

”Trying to intimidate me, are you?” the monkey fiend guffawed. ”Let me tell you this. Those bastards won’t be able to do anything to me! Even the gods won’t be able to save you, so you should just give up all hope and pray for a quick death!”

As he spoke, the monkey fiend barreled toward Zhang Jitian, reaching for his head with his giant hand.

Zhang Jitian could only watch in despair as the monkey fiend’s hand rapidly expanded in his field of vision. However, all of a sudden, it was stopped in its tracks by a much smaller hand, and the clash sent powerful shockwaves sweeping through the air in all directions.

”Why do you say the Demon Vanquishing Department won’t be able to do anything to you?” Chu Qiguang asked. ”Are you colluding with someone on the inside?”

The monkey fiend turned to Chu Qiguang with a hint of surprise in his eyes, then said, ”Guess I’ll start with you instead!”

As he spoke, he clenched his other hand into a fist and swung it at Chu Qiguang’s head like a giant millstone.

It looked like a warhammer being swung at a thin nail, and Zhang Jitian was already recoiling slightly, anticipating Chu Qiguang’s brains and intracranial fluids splattering across his face.

All of a sudden, Chu Qiguang’s head turned completely black, allowing him to withstand the monkey fiend’s punch without any difficulty.

Instead, it was the monkey fiend who let out an agonized howl as he clutched his hand and stumbled backward.

”That’s the Primordial High Zenith Qigong! You’re from the Demon Vanquishing Department!”

At the same time, Chu Qiguang launched himself at the monkey fiend using his Star Shifting Cloud Piercing Step and unleashed his Heavenly Demon Vanquishing Palms.

Faced with Chu Qiguang’s ferocious assault, the monkey fiend let out a thunderous roar and retaliated with his fists.

Chu Qiguang didn’t back down in the slightest. He simply allowed the monkey fiend’s fist to strike his inky-black chest, while driving his palm into the monkey fiend’s shoulder.

Zhang Jitian’s jaw dropped as he watched Chu Qiguang clash with the monkey fiend like two titans.

Neither of them bothered to put up any defenses, instead focusing solely on attacking each other’s vital points.

The ground beneath their feet was quickly pulverized, sending large clouds of dust rising into the air, while the surrounding trees were felled one after another.

Chu Qiguang’s entire body had already turned black, while the monkey fiend’s fierce roars quickly turned into howls of agony.

This guy’s beating a fiend in a contest of brute strength?!

Chu Qiguang grabbed the monkey fiend’s right arm, swung him into the air and slammed him into the ground with tremendous force.

Zhang Jitian heard the sound of bones breaking as the monkey fiend was rammed into the ground, and he couldn’t help but wince slightly at the grotesque sound.
