Scripture of Days Past

Wang Cailiang didn’t know what Chu Qiguang was planning, but by this point, he had already developed an almost blind faith in him.

Thus, he asked no further questions and began working on a plan to recruit skilled workers at Chu Qiguang’s request.

”These people all believe in the Profound Origin Dao Lord, so they definitely wouldn’t be willing to come here if we told them that they would be working with fiends,” Wang Cailiang said. ”The best option would probably be to abduct these skilled workers and their families, then use the Heavenly Fiend Foundation Establishment Technique on them so that they’ll have no choice but to stay here.

“The skilled workers that I’ve set my sights on have all been driven into a corner and are barely managing to get by. Once they come here and realize that they won’t have to pay taxes, serve forced labor terms, or worry about food and shelter, I’m sure they’ll quickly become willing and productive members of the village.”

”I’ll leave it to you,” Chu Qiguang said with a nod. ”Once they’re here, take them to Qiao Zhi so he can use the Heavenly Fiend Foundation Establishment Technique on them. I want skilled workers from every field, whether they are carpenters, blacksmiths, stonemasons, potters, weavers, salt farmers, or wine brewers. As long as they excel in a particular field, they can be useful to the village. Make sure they’re given enough food and treated well. Once I return, they’ll all be very useful to me.”

Wang Cailiang nodded, and a strange sense of conflict suddenly welled up in his heart.

Thinking back, the Wang Clan had once been just like everyone else, worshiping the Profound Origin Dao Lord and taking pride in eliminating demons and slaying fiends. However, before he knew it, he had fully embraced his role in Hidden Fiend Village, and the fear and guilt he had initially felt were now almost completely gone.

The entire Wang Clan was already completely dependent on Chu Qiguang, and Wang Cailiang had no choice but to follow him to the very end, whether the road ahead was bitter or sweet.

Just then, Chen Gang arrived and patted Wang Cailiang on the shoulder as he asked, ”How’ve things been? I told you that being a fiend is much better than being a human, didn’t I?”

Wang Cailiang couldn’t help but roll his eyes inwardly in disdain. In his eyes, Chen Gang was nothing more than an uneducated henchman. However, given how close Chen Gang was to Chu Qiguang, he knew that he couldn’t let his disdain show.

If Chu Qiguang were the emperor, then Chen Gang would be his personal eunuch.

With that in mind, Wang Cailiang put on a friendly smile and greeted him. ”Long time no see, Brother Chen. Have you had a chance to pay a visit back home yet? I’m sure your mother would love to see you.”

The three of them continued making small talk as they made their way to the fields. A pleased smile appeared on Chu Qiguang’s face at the sight of the vast stretches of wheat before him.

Jin Ji had already spotted them from afar. He hurried over and greeted, ”Master Omniscient, it’s so good to see you again!”

”How’ve the planters been faring?” Chu Qiguang asked.

A look of excitement immediately appeared on Jin Ji’s face at the mention of the planters, and he replied, ”Aside from the first ten that you enlightened, the others are all extremely dumb and clumsy, and they can only perform simple manual labor. However, now that you’ve returned and enlightened the rest of them, they’re able to follow my instructions, and each one can do the work of at least ten people!”

Planters were essentially tireless machines with tremendous strength. However, when they first emerged from the blood pool, they refused to follow any orders. Wang Cailiang had only been able to make them obey the most basic instructions by using the incantations in the Elixir of Undying.

In that state, they could only be used as glorified livestock. However, after Chu Qiguang used his Demon Refinement Technique on them, they became capable of following more complex instructions from a wider range of people, making them far more useful.

Chu Qiguang could already imagine that as the number of planters continued to increase, there would be less and less need for fiends to work in the fields.

In the future, the planters would become the village’s main labor force, while the villagers would only need to manage and instruct them, thereby significantly improving efficiency.

Once Chu Qiguang created more blood pools, the production of planters would also increase significantly, leading to rapid growth across every area of the village.

”How is the blood pool?” Chu Qiguang suddenly asked.

”We’ve been feeding it meat and other forms of nourishment every day, and it’s grown quite a bit larger since you left,” Wang Cailiang replied. ”It can also turn living corpses into planters faster than before.”

”What’s the deal with these pickaxes?” Chu Qiguang asked.

He had already noticed the day before that the pickaxes and pitchforks used by the planters were rather unusual. They weren’t made of wood or metal. Instead, they looked more like white jade, though they were more resilient and much lighter.

”Recently, we discovered that the blood pools can do more than modify living corpses. It can also create different types of bodily tissue out of nothing,” Wang Cailiang explained. ”At first, I couldn’t think of any practical use for that, but when I saw some of the outsider fiends using bones as weapons, I wondered if we could use the blood pool to create farming tools.

”Sure enough, the blood pool was able to produce bone tools according to our specifications. These tools are just as hard as iron ones, but they’re lighter, more durable, and don’t rust, so we’ve replaced all our old farming tools with bone tools.”

”Another benefit is that even if the bone tools are damaged or broken, they can be repaired simply by soaking them in the blood pool for a bit,” Jin Ji added.

Chu Qiguang wasn’t surprised to hear this. Given that the blood pool could alter the bodily structures of living corpses so drastically, it wasn’t difficult to imagine that it could create different types of bodily tissue as well.

Interested in seeing how these bone tools were made, Chu Qiguang headed toward the blood pool with Chen Gang and Wang Cailiang.

Before long, the blood pool had begun bubbling violently. A mass of blood and flesh slowly formed inside it before stretching into a long, roughly cylindrical form.

According to Wang Cailiang, bone was growing within the flesh, and it would take about fifteen minutes for it to take on the shape of a pickax.

After that, the flesh would break down, leaving only the completed bone pickax behind.

In the eyes of the villagers, the blood pool was an inexplicable miracle. After witnessing it in action, Chu Qiguang thought, This thing is like a 3D printer! In fact, in many ways, it’s even more useful than a 3D printer.
