From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

”You? Can you handle it?” Old Mrs. Yu asked, her tone skeptical.

Mrs. Li patted her chest, making a guarantee, ”Of course! You always said I laze around in this house, haven’t you?

This task of nursing the baby is hard work, what with feeding and diaper changing, sometimes getting up two or three times at night. If I take on this task, I can’t be lazy anymore, can I?”

Mrs. Li’s explanation eased some of Old Mrs. Yu’s concerns.

She thought, Mrs. Li always eats and drinks for free in this household, doesn’t do any work. It’s fine for a short while, but over time the whole family would have complaints.

So, it’s better to find some work for her!

Just as Mrs. Li herself said, nursing a baby is hard work!

Perhaps, through early rising and late retiring, knowing life’s hardships, she’d mend her ways and be a decent person?

Thinking this, a decision formed in her heart!

”Alright, since you’re so eager to nurse Sixth Son’s family’s baby, I’ll leave the task to you! A child is different from an adult, you must do your utmost!” Old Mrs. Yu said.

”Thank you, mother! I will do a great job, I won’t let you down!” Mrs. Li gave a fawning smile.

Then she pointed at the three dairy goats and asked, ”Mother, this livestock milk has such a strong smell, will Da Bao and Er Bao be willing to eat it?”

”Strong smell? Don’t worry, Shuang taught us a method. When boiling goat’s milk, add almonds in, once it’s done, take the almonds out, the smell will be removed!” Old Mrs. Yu explained.

”Really?” Li Juhua’s eyes lit up.

”Why don’t you give it a try and you’ll find out if it’s true or not? The almonds are in the cupboard, if you’re willing to start boiling goat’s milk, start today!

If not, let your older sister-in-law do it, there’s no tea-picking now anyway!” Old Mrs. Yu said.

”No, mother! Let me do it! Although my sister-in-law doesn’t need to pick tea, she always cooks the meals at home, she’s quite tired!”

Mrs. Li deliberately portrayed herself as being diligent in front of Old Mrs. Yu.

Old Mrs. Yu was completely deceived by her, and actually followed Mrs. Li’s suggestion.

”Alright, but when you boil the goat’s milk, you must have your sister-in-law watch over it, otherwise I won’t be at ease!” Old Mrs. Yu said.

”Sure, whatever you say, mother! I’ll go milk the goats right away, and call my sister-in-law to boil the milk with me!”

Mrs. Li finished speaking, went into the kitchen, grabbed a clay pot, didn’t bother rinsing it with water, and walked out carrying it.

Seeing Old Mrs. Yu still by her side, Mrs. Li deliberately said, ”Mother, I just washed my hands, the clay pot has also been washed, it’s completely clean, don’t worry!”

After saying that, she squatted down and started milking the goats.

Mrs. Li was merely lazy; milking animals was no trouble for her.

While Old Mrs. Yu watched nearby, she deliberately flaunted her skill.

Old Mrs. Yu observed Mrs. Li’s adeptness at work, growing increasingly convinced that leaving the babysitting task to her was the right decision!

”If you truly nurse our family’s Da Bao and Er Bao well, I’ll talk to your father and Er Lang about letting you back in!”

Mrs. Li was initially cast out for repeatedly misbehaving and lacking virtue.

If she sincerely repented and vowed never to repeat her past foolishness, Old Mrs. Yu was willing to relent.

After all, Tianqi and the two children were innocent.

Couldn’t really deprive them of their mother, could she?

Old Mrs. Yu’s words stirred Mrs. Li.

But remembering Yu Liulang’s temperament, she knew that even if she went back, life wouldn’t be good.

Moreover, the tea plantation had been divided between her sister-in-law and Liu’s wife, that wretch. Even if she went back, she wouldn’t benefit from the tea plantation.

Better stay out, eat for free every day, taking life day by day.

But these thoughts only crossed Mrs. Li’s mind; she couldn’t reveal them to the old lady!

”Mother, rest assured, I’ll certainly work hard for Tianqi!” Mrs. Li vowed earnestly.

Old Mrs. Yu was relieved.

Now she had nothing further to worry about!

”You watch here, I’ll go see if Shuang and Sixth Son’s wife have finished talking; Sixth Son’s wife just gave birth to Da Bao and Er Bao, she shouldn’t be disturbed!”

Upon hearing that Old Mrs. Yu was going to see Feng Xiaohua, jealousy flashed in Mrs. Li’s eyes.

But she quickly masked it!

”Mother, you’re right, they’re young and clueless! Especially Shuang, still an unmarried girl, understands even less! You go quickly, leave this to me!”

Mrs. Li’s sensibility pleased Old Mrs. Yu quite well.

She nodded repeatedly, ”Good, good, I’m off then!”

”Mm, mother, hurry!” Mrs. Li forced a smile.

As soon as Old Mrs. Yu left, the smile on her face collapsed into a sinister rage.

”The old hag! Wanting me to slave away for those two brats, sure thinks highly of herself!

Talking about going back, entering Old Yu Family’s door, I come and go as I please! The old hag’s so biased; we’re all daughters-in-law, yet when I gave birth to Tianqi, didn’t see this old thing caring for me.

Now you howl because you see Sixth Son and Yu Si Niang’s good relationship, and Mu Shuangshuang has opened a tavern in town!

Bah, snobs, wait till my Tianqi becomes an official and blinds your kind!”

Mrs. Li muttered to herself, spitting out all sorts of offensive words.

At that moment, Mrs. Zhang, the wife from Yu Family’s main branch, came out.

Seeing her, Mrs. Li immediately shut up, acting as if nothing had happened, even greeting Mrs. Zhang warmly.

”Sister-in-law, what are you up to?”

Mrs. Zhang saw Mrs. Li milking the goats and furrowed her brow instinctively, but quickly returned to normal.

”Nothing much! Just chatting with Si Niang earlier! But you, why are you here milking goats? Didn’t mother say the task was mine?”

”Hey, mother said you’re soon to be tea-picking, way too busy, nursing the baby is best left to me!

Look, I’ve already filled half a pot with goat’s milk!” Mrs. Li said, waving the clay pot of goat’s milk before Mrs. Zhang’s eyes.

Mrs. Zhang, hearing it was Old Mrs. Yu’s idea, had no further comment; she nodded and said, ”Since that’s the case, let me teach you how to boil goat’s milk!”

As dusk approached, Da Bao and Er Bao would be hungry too!

”Alright then!”

...

When Old Mrs. Yu reached Feng Xiaohua’s room, Mu Shuangshuang and Feng Xiaohua were engaged in lively conversation.

Mu Shuangshuang was telling Feng Xiaohua all about her experiences in the Northwest.

Including the fallen General Wen Nantian and the rich lady Wen Xiaoya who desperately wanted to marry Lu Yuanfeng.

At the exciting parts, Feng Xiaohua couldn’t help but clutch the blanket, feeling tense along with the story’s characters.
