Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Shangguan Fei’er’s Request

“I am defeated, wholeheartedly convinced, and today I leave myself at your disposal,” Dugu Kuangdao threw his blood-red long sword onto the ground.

This man truly proved himself to be an honorable and straightforward fellow.

“My goodness, is that young man too strong or what? Even a formidable figure like Dugu Kuangdao was defeated by a single move!”

“Heroes emerge young since ancient times. Who is this young man, I wonder? Could he be from one of those top-notch ancient families out for cultivation experience?”

Around them, many people were discussing animatedly, looking at Lin Feng with awe.

Lin Feng picked up the blood-red long sword and handed it back to Dugu Kuangdao, saying, “As the saying goes, no fight, no friendship. I was also at fault previously and hope Brother Dugu can forgive me.”

...

Although Lin Feng was the victor, he chose to appease and reconcile at that moment, with a humble attitude.

This gesture greatly endeared him to everyone around.

“Very well, if Brother does not disdain it, may I become friends with you?” Dugu Kuangdao said.

Lin Feng smiled and replied, “To make the acquaintance of a hero like Brother Dugu is my honor. Instead of fixing another date, why don’t we go for a drink today, to apologize to you and the others?”

“Ha ha, Brother Lin, we’re practically family now—what’s there to apologize for? If anyone should apologize, it should be us to you. You’ve generously overlooked our faults—don’t hold it against us,” Dugu Kuangdao laughed and said.

“Yes, Brother Lin, we were offensive before, please don’t take it to heart,” added Zhou Hu, who also walked up with a face full of remorse at that time.

“It’s all in the past. Conflicts are normal for spirited men—a drink later, and we’ll forget it all,” Lin Feng replied with a smile.

“Let’s go, to the Drunken Immortal Inn we head, not returning till we’re drunk!” Dugu Kuangdao and Lin Feng left arm in arm, displaying an inseparable bond.

Lin Feng and his group departed.

Many people were left gawking, who could have imagined that the two groups, just on the brink of fierce battle, had now turned into friends?

“This young man resolved the grievances with a few words and even earned admiration from the likes of Dugu Kuangdao. Though still young, his handling of affairs is experienced and wise, almost cunning. Given time, he will surely rise like a dragon from the Abyss,” said a middle-aged cultivator.

“A dragon from the Abyss, that’s boundless expanses of heaven and earth where he can soar. Come, we must report this exactly to the Miss,” another middle-aged man said.

The two squeezed through the crowd and quickly vanished.

Lin Feng and others, including Dugu Kuangdao, were drinking at the Drunken Immortal Inn. Lin Feng learned much about the Fire Kirin from Dugu Kuangdao and others.

According to what Dugu Kuangdao had learned, people from the ancient noble families were coming to hunt the Fierce Beast Fire Kirin. Therefore, all different powers were still in wait.

By the time Lin Feng returned, it was already deep into the night. After a quick wash, he collapsed onto his bed and slept until the next day when a knock on the door woke him.

Lin Feng opened the door to find two people outside; one was the inn’s server, the other a middle-aged cultivator whom Lin Feng didn’t recognize.

“Young Master Lin, I deserve death for disturbing your sweet dreams, but this gentleman has urgent business with you, which is why I’ve bothered you, please forgive me,” the server said, trembling.

“It’s fine, go on,” Lin Feng said.

“Thank you, I shall take my leave,” the server then left.

Lin Feng looked at the middle-aged man, smiled, and asked, “May I ask how to address you?”

“I am Dong Qing, an official from the Mercenary Association, and I am here to deliver a letter from our Miss,” the middle-aged man said, taking out an envelope to hand to Lin Feng.

Lin Feng took the envelope and asked, “Who is your Miss?”

“You’ll understand once you read it; I’ll take my leave now.”

The middle-aged man bowed with his fists and left.

Lin Feng returned to his room, opened the envelope, and found inside an invitation card with the following content.

“You and Young Master Lin had met yesterday and left a profound impression, and today I have important matters to discuss, so please come to the Mercenary Association,” it read.

The document was signed with the name “Shangguan Fei’er.”

“It’s her…”

Lin Feng was astonished, and the stunningly beautiful face and seductively curvaceous body of Shangguan Fei’er inevitably surfaced in his mind.

By nightfall, Lin Feng had arrived at the Mercenary Association, where he saw Shangguan Fei’er in the living room.

It must be said, Shangguan Fei’er was truly a vixen.

Her whole being exuded an enticing aura.

This kind of aura could arouse the most primal desires in a man.

Even Lin Feng couldn’t help but let his thoughts wander in her presence.

Lin Feng smiled at Shangguan Fei’er and asked, “I wonder what matter brings such a beauty to summon me?”

In a coquettish tone, Shangguan Fei’er responded, “If there was nothing pressing, could I not simply invite Young Master Lin for a chat and some heart-to-heart conversation?”

Lin Feng chuckled and replied, “Of course not, it is my honor to be before such a great beauty as Miss Fei’er.”

“Giggle giggle giggle.”

Shangguan Fei’er burst into a charming laughter, leaning back and forth.

Indeed, this woman was as enchanting as a fairy, every gesture laden with a charm that could make any man’s heart skip a beat.

Shangguan Fei’er had been discreetly watching Lin Feng’s every move. Although his gaze burned with desire, she noticed a clear discernment in the depths of his eyes, and she thought to herself, “Is this man not as superficial as he appears?”

A twinge of doubt arose in her, but her expression grew even more captivating as she smiled and said, “Young Master Lin, Miss Fei’er invited you here because I have a favor to ask of you.”

Lin Feng replied indifferently, “Could Miss Fei’er, being from the Mercenary Association, possibly have something to ask of me?”

Shangguan Fei’er hurriedly chastised herself, realizing that Lin Feng was trying to preemptively cut off her follow-up.

Indeed, Lin Feng meant just that—after all, his encounter with Shangguan Fei’er was merely a fleeting one. How simple could her request be?

Craftily, Shangguan Fei’er remarked, “With your extraordinary talents, surely you can assist Miss Fei’er.”

Lin Feng, feeling rather helpless but cornered by her words, inquired, “I am curious about what matter Miss Fei’er, with her status, could need from me?”

Then Shangguan Fei’er revealed a pitiful, tear-brimming expression and explained, “My father is the President of the True Martial Country’s Mercenary Association, overseeing numerous branches. I have two brothers: the eldest is sinister and ruthless, and the youngest is a prodigal son, both born of my father’s legal wife, thus highly esteemed. My mother, however, was merely a maid whom my father encountered one drunken night, making my standing in the family considerably base. Next winter, during the family conference, new power alliances will be formed. I have learned that my eldest brother wishes to use me as a tool for an arranged marriage to avoid conflicts with him. In such a vast family where deception is common, though my youngest brother is incompetent, the eldest regards himself highly. He even once endangered us by instigating a feud that led to a Mercenary Association branch being demolished, killing hundreds. If such a person takes control of the Mercenary Association, it could spell ruin for the Shangguan Family’s foundation. I hope that at that time Young Master will accompany me, not just for my sake, but to preserve the family’s foundations as well, and prevent my eldest brother from becoming the successor.”

Shangguan Fei’er narrated her plight, effectively outlining the family power struggles. Losers in such disputes often face sad fates, and as a woman with a lowly mother, should she lose, her destiny would be even more wretched.

Shaking his head slightly, Lin Feng said, “This is a matter within your family. As an outsider, it’s inappropriate for me to intervene, and moreover, I am not strong enough to help you.”

Shangguan Fei’er, looking pitiful, persisted, “Young Master Lin, you are exceptionally gifted. By next winter, you will surely have risen like a dragon from the abyss, soaring through the heavens, perfectly capable of supporting Miss Fei’er.”

Lin Feng knew Shangguan Fei’er was merely flattering him.

Yet Lin Feng was supremely confident in his own abilities, believing that within a year, he would attain a level of cultivation that even Shangguan Fei’er couldn’t imagine.

Looking at Shangguan Fei’er, seeing her pitiable state, Lin Feng felt a pang of sympathy stir within him.

It had to be said, beautiful women often have substantial advantages.

Shangguan Fei’er was no exception.

“If you agree to be my woman, I’ll agree to your conditions. How about that?” Lin Feng suggested with a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
