Chapter 65: Chapter 65: The Call of the Nine Emperor Split Bodies

Jialan Academy had become lively recently, as the competition between the Four Major Divisions was fast approaching. Each competition was the most bustling time at Jialan Academy.

In the courtyard outside the Scripture Storage Pavilion, Lin Feng and Elder Tianxuan were practicing swordsmanship, though it was more akin to Elder Tianxuan giving guidance to Lin Feng.

From the side, a strange bird squawked, “The fat one is going to lose, the fat one is going to lose,” which annoyed Elder Tianxuan, causing him to snort and glare.

After a session of combat, Lin Feng sheathed his sword and said, “Thank you for the guidance, Elder.”

“Haha, why be so polite, my boy? Besides, I didn’t really instruct you much. Your understanding of the Fiery Sun Sword Skill has exceeded my expectations,” Elder Tianxuan replied with a laugh.

Lin Feng humbly responded, “Elder, you corrected many of my mistakes. These corrections will help me avoid taking many detours in my cultivation journey.”

...

Elder Tianxuan smiled and then said, “The competition of the Four Major Divisions is coming soon. You should know with your talent, it would truly be a waste not to cultivate a supplementary skill. Do you have any plans?”

There were many supplementary skills, such as Artifact Refining, refining medicine, and others including becoming a Spirit Array Master.

Becoming a Spirit Array Master was most difficult, as it required extremely stringent demands on soul power; next in difficulty was becoming a Pharmacist.

Lin Feng said, “Deputy Dean Gongyang Ming told me that when the Dean returns, he will speak well of me to the Dean, hoping that I could learn the Spirit Array Skill under the Dean’s tutelage.”

“That old fellow’s temper is quite eccentric, and judging by the time, he should be arriving soon. Once he returns, I’ll also speak to him about this matter on your behalf,” Elder Tianxuan said.

“Disciple thanks Elder for your kind words,” Lin Feng quickly expressed his gratitude.

He stayed with Elder Tianxuan until evening before leaving. Joining the Changhe Branch had been fortunate for Lin Feng; there was harmony among the students here, and he had several senior figures who cared about him.

Upon returning to his dwelling, Zhang Qichu came to Lin Feng’s room and said, “Junior Brother, just now, Senior Sister Xiao sent someone to look for you. They didn’t find you, so they went back. The person said that Senior Sister Xiao will be waiting for you to come over!”

Lin Feng nodded and replied, “Alright, I’ll go see what Senior Sister Xiao needs.”

Lin Feng arrived at Xiao Yafei’s place where Gongsun Changge was also present.

“Junior Brother, in half a month, the competition between the Four Major Divisions will commence,” Gongsun Changge said. “It will be your first time participating, so I called you here to explain some of the rules of the competition.”

Lin Feng nodded and said, “Please tell me, Senior Brother.”

“Nowadays, altogether there are less than three thousand students among the Four Major Divisions. Our Changhe Branch has the fewest students, only five hundred. Among those, only Senior Sister Xiao and I are ranked in the top twenty, and we have nine people ranked in the top hundred. According to the rules of the academy, the competition assesses the top hundred as seed students. Those beyond the top hundred who have confidence can challenge those within the top hundred. If they win, they will move into the top hundred, but if they fail, they will lose the opportunity to compete in this competition.”

Lin Feng said, “These conditions are quite severe.”

Xiao Yafei added, “The academy mainly considers the challenges from those with insufficient strength in the Inner Academy against the top hundred, as delaying time doesn’t matter. The worry is that those in the top hundred might not restrain themselves properly during a challenge, which could easily cause serious injury to the challenger, after all, weapons do not have eyes.”

“True,” Lin Feng nodded.

Gongsun Changge continued, “Of course, the seed students within the top hundred can also challenge each other. As long as the challenged party agrees, they can fight. The first phase of the assessment involves challenging the top hundred seed students. After the challenge phase ends, there will be a normal ranking battle, where the fights are determined by drawing lots, no matter from which division. Winners advance, each victory earning more points, and the final rankings are determined based on these points.”

“That sounds quite interesting. Surely, many students challenge the top hundred seed students in each competition, right?” Lin Feng inquired.

“Yes, every year people challenge the top hundred seed students, but the success rate isn’t high,” Gongsun Changge explained.

This was understandable because the top hundred students were already strong, and especially those in the top hundred of the Inner Academy benefitted from ‘Great Strength Dragon Suppressing Pill’. In contrast, those beyond the top hundred only got ‘Qi Replenishing Pill’, which was no match for the Great Strength Dragon Suppressing Pill. Using Great Strength Dragon Suppressing Pills for cultivation naturally accelerated their strength growth, allowing the top hundred students to become progressively stronger.

There were also some prodigies who rose above others, defeating those in the top hundred and successfully taking their places, entering the top ranks, although they were in the minority.

Xiao Yafei stated, “With Junior Brother’s strength, displacing one of the top hundred shouldn’t be a problem, so during the competition, Junior Brother can participate in the challenge phase, directly defeating one of the top hundred and thus avoid the drawing lots.”

“Okay, I will defeat a contestant at that time,” Lin Feng responded easily, nodding. This didn’t seem like a difficult task for him, as Jialan Academy only had seventy-two Martial Master Realm students including Lin Feng, making seventy-three in total. For Lin Feng, entering the top hundred would naturally be quite simple.

Xiao Yafei and Gongsun Changge didn’t object to this plan. Lin Feng left Xiao Yafei’s place, and for the next half month, he dedicated himself to closed-door cultivation, refining not only his swordsmanship but also studying the Forbidden Divine Skill, ‘Great Sky Concealing Hand.’

On the night before the competition between the Four Major Divisions, Lin Feng suddenly felt a strong call coming from the direction of the western mountains.

“It’s the Nine Venerables’ incarnation!”

A look of joy appeared on Lin Feng’s face.

There, in the western mountains, he had nurtured the incarnation of the Nine Venerables, originally assuming it would only take three to four months to take shape.

Surprisingly, it had taken a bit longer than expected.

Now, after almost half a year, there was finally some activity from the Nine Venerables’ incarnation.

Taking advantage of the night, Lin Feng headed towards the western mountains.

This was the burial ground of the ancestors of Jialan Academy, with chilling winds and a menacing aura.

At night, nobody ventured there, and Lin Feng quickly moved towards the deeper parts of the western mountains.

He could feel the strong calling.

“Master, master…”

As Lin Feng reached the depths of the western mountains, the calling grew even more intense.

In the deepest part of the western mountains, demonic qi swirled around, and within this qi, nine terrifying figures loomed, each emitting an ancient aura like that of the Ancient Desolation, enveloping the entire western mountains in this ancient and terrifying atmosphere.
