The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Taking Without Permission

King Kang, over forty years old, walked steadily with a calm gaze.

This was just like him usually, acting slowly, seeking not merit, but no fault. Just like last time in the court when he spoke for Shang Jingwang; it was already an extremely bold act on his part.

After all, he was loyal to the Emperor, loyal to the surname Huangfu, and did not want the Court to lose an official who truly served the people.

King Kang said, ”Grandmaster Bao, you’re quite early!”

Grandmaster Bao leisurely replied, ”Prince Kang is also quite early!”

At this time, there was still half a quarter of an hour before the official duty time, and the Left and Right Ministers had not yet arrived.

King Kang walked to Grandmaster Bao’s side, his gaze also fell on the memorials from Jiazhou, and he reached out to flip through them.

Grandmaster Bao said lightly, ”I have some matters to attend to, so I won’t disturb Your Highness any longer!”

After all, there weren’t many memorials from Jiazhou. With a simple flip, King Kang had gone through them all. By this time, Grandmaster Bao had turned around, but King Kang grabbed his arm.

Grandmaster Bao turned his head, looking at King Kang, with a displeased expression, saying, ”Your Highness, do you have any business?”

King Kang extended his hand, ”Hand it over!”

Grandmaster Bao’s eyes trembled, his face showing more displeasure, saying, ”If King Kang needs something, just say it. This pulling and tugging, what sort of manner is this? What are you trying to do?”

King Kang spoke slowly, ”My son...”

Upon hearing these two words, Grandmaster Bao was infuriated, was King Kang deliberately coming to trouble him? Calling him ’my son’ while pulling his sleeve, wasn’t this taking advantage of him?

Grandmaster Bao was over fifty years old, King Kang over forty, being called ’my son’ by someone in his forties, moreover, Grandmaster Bao held a superior position in the court, equal to King Kang; enraged, his face flushed with anger, he shouted, ”King Kang, you are too insolent!”

King Kang continued slowly, ”...his memorial!”

Grandmaster Bao was so furious he almost choked, pointing at him, ”You... you...”

King Kang still held onto his arm.

Grandmaster Bao, after all, was positioned as Grandmaster, high in status, showing no sign of emotion, just now was overly angry, after the anger passed, he composed himself, his face returned to cold indifference, saying, ”With so many memorials here, find it yourself, would you have Grandmaster help you?”

King Kang’s gaze fell obviously on his sleeve, his right hand holding his arm, and his left hand extended, ”Grandmaster Bao, didn’t you take my son’s memorial?”

He spoke plainly, without any thoughts of giving face or beating around the bush.

Grandmaster Bao was quite exasperated, but also somewhat guilty.

The content of the memorial was truly shocking, however, since he had it, taking it out now would seem fishy. He coldly said, ”Be cautious in your words, Prince Kang. The memorials here all have a place they belong; are you attempting a private requisition?”

King Kang stared unwaveringly at Grandmaster Bao, saying, ”My son wrote, in the memorial is an important matter to report to the Emperor, Grandmaster Bao kindly offered to help, intending to submit it to the Emperor on his behalf; I am grateful. However, my son lacks literary skills, his writing is chaotic, possibly tainting the Holy listening; he wrote in his letter to me, asking me, his old father, to refine the words and submit both with the original. Grandmaster Bao, just submitting this alone, ultimately needs me to face the Emperor, so there’s no need to trouble Grandmaster further!”

Grandmaster Bao: ”...”

At this moment, deep in his eyes was also a hint of regret.

Upon seeing this memorial earlier, he was shocked and even angry, but he still took the memorial.

His thoughts returned to last night, when the Grandmaster Mansion welcomed a special guest.

The guest was cloaked, covering thoroughly, only revealing himself after being led into the study, dismissing all attendants.

He told Grandmaster Bao he had something to ask.

What he asked for was this matter!

He wanted the memorial regarding the epidemic in Wangshan Town in Jiazhou.

At that time, Grandmaster Bao was also surprised, memorials can’t be privately taken, although many memorials wouldn’t be submitted to the Emperor, two people would still look through them to reach conclusions.

Such selections are to avoid insignificant or specialized matters occupying the Holy Emperor’s time. The Holy Emperor manages countless affairs in Nanxia, if not filtered, even five selves couldn’t handle all the matters.

But then, the request was made.

Grandmaster Bao deeply sighed, three years ago, his incompetent son caused trouble outside, receiving that person’s help, owing him a favor.

Now that person came looking clearly to repay the favor this time.

Grandmaster Bao weighed in his mind, what that person desired wasn’t military border matters, nor local governance, just a small town’s epidemic situation, seemingly not a particularly big deal.

If he could repay the favor this time, it would settle a concern in his heart.

Therefore, after much deliberation, he agreed.

Though agreed, he considered looking at the memorial’s matters first.

Due to untimely transmission, just the middle report of the epidemic can’t be sent with urgent priority, thus Yu Shikui wanting to burn Wangshan Town in one fire, Wen Hao returned furious, with fear mixed with hate, submitting half-apology, half-memorial finally arrived in the Capital City.

The memorial’s content was indeed as King Kang said, chaotic words, incomprehensible phrases, inconsistent layouts, fully reflecting the nature of an incompetent young wastrel.

Just by looking at this memorial seemed to show the arrogant second generation heir, smugly proud.

At the time looking, Grandmaster Bao was sorry for King Kang, King Kang naturally gentle and inactive, the princely heir matured and unhurried, yet this Second Young Master, fearing others unaware of his lack of learning, acted arrogantly without bounds; how was he born!

Wen Hao’s memorial, albeit ugly writing, could still be seen, but this wastrel’s was entirely unreadable.

A civil official revered as Grandmaster, writing elegantly himself, reading Wen Hao’s memorial was self-torturing; facing Huangfu Jinxuan’s memorial was sheer torment.

Grandmaster Bao felt since this memorial was desired by that person, it surely wasn’t simple. Entrusted by others, one must fulfill the duty. Hence, he patiently read despite incoherent sentences, ugly and indecipherable, as if ghost talismans, yet within lay some information, such as Yu Shikui’s outrageous plan to destroy a town’s population, truly lawless; coinciding with Wen Hao’s memorial content.

Also mentioned was an incident and a name, Wubie, Bai Yi.

Grandmaster Bao hadn’t heard Bai Yi’s name, but Wubie stunned him, he thought suddenly realizing it was the wastrel writing wrong, meant ’fraud’—referring to academic examination.

This is significant!

After all, the academic examination is the critical gateway for the Court to select talents, the path for students from humble origins to advance.
