The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 297: Chapter 297: The Prefectural Governor Arrives

Shang Jingwang heard his calm tone and even expressed a desire to speak for Wangshan Town, which delighted him greatly. He thought to himself that sometimes extreme measures were indeed necessary.

Look, when he went with politeness and proper etiquette to request a meeting, the other party didn’t even see him.

But now? How good is the attitude?

Now that the matter is resolved, he also breathed a sigh of relief and said, ”Young Master Jing, please trouble you to escort Mr. Wen back!”

A dark shadow flashed in Wen Hao’s eyes. He initially thought Huangfu Jingchen was a Jianghu figure invited by Shang Jingwang. But seeing Shang Jingwang groveling like this, it was clearly not the case.

Who is this person? To make a Prefect treat him so subserviently?

However, he thought again, this person’s martial skills are formidable. Not to mention Shang Jingwang, even if it were someone by his side with such skills, he would act with courtesy too.

Anyway, Shang Jingwang’s words made it clear that his earlier response had put Shang Jingwang at ease. As long as he could send him away, there was no concern.

Huangfu Jingchen smiled faintly and said, ”Rest assured, Lord Shang, I will escort the gentleman back right away.”

Xia Wenjin’s eyes lit up, ”Lord Shang, this is, after all, an epidemic area, and the night is deep. Let me escort you out!”

Shang Jingwang said, ”Thank you, Doctor Xia!” He also bowed to Wen Hao, ”Mr. Wen, please do not hold a grudge against me, I entrust everything to you!”

Wen Hao maintained a good attitude, even smiling, ”No worries, you are acting for the sake of the people of Wangshan Town! As a Commander, I understand!”

Hearing this response, Shang Jingwang was quite pleased and left accompanied by Xia Wenjin.

Wen Hao looked at Huangfu Jingchen and said, ”This warrior, as a Commander, I do not need you to see me off. I can walk myself!”

It wasn’t being polite; the handling by Huangfu Jingchen was truly unsettling. He didn’t know why it had to be so violent, often lifting him by the collar without warning. It was utterly humiliating for a Commander like him.

Moreover, if Huangfu Jingchen changed his mind halfway and brought him back, where could he cry?

Huangfu Jingchen glanced at him, smiled faintly, and said, ”Why the hurry, Mr. Wen?”

Wen Hao felt something was amiss and said warily, ”Your Lord Shang has already told you to see me off. Why are you going against his order?”

Huangfu Jingchen shrugged, ”Didn’t I tell you, I’m not a subordinate of Shang Jingwang, why should I listen to him?”

Wen Hao’s face changed, and he said sternly, ”Shang Jingwang promised, how can you renege on your word?”

Huangfu Jingchen laughed, ”Mr. Wen, what Lord Shang promised is not what this Young Master promised. I find Mr. Wen quite agreeable and would like to have him stay here for a few more days.” Saying this, without waiting for Wen Hao to protest or threaten, he pressed his acupoints, dragged him to an empty house, and called for a soldier to bring rope.

The soldiers guarding the quarantine area in Wangshan Town were all household soldiers brought by Shang Jingwang. Having witnessed Shang Jingwang’s courtesy towards Huangfu Jingchen, they obediently fetched the rope.

Huangfu Jingchen bound Wen Hao tightly.

After all, Wen Hao is a Fourth Rank military officer. Although he intended to keep him for a while, he did not intend to harm him. The acupoints would release on their own in two hours. Even if they did, he had tied him in such a special manner that no matter Wen Hao’s martial skills, he could not escape the ropes.

Leaving a soldier to guard outside, he walked out of the severe epidemic area and encountered Xia Wenjin. Xia Wenjin’s eyes sparkled, showing an understanding smile on his face, ”Lord Shang is timid. I thought you would do as he said, and I’d have to go to the trouble of bringing the person back!”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Releasing the tiger to return to the mountain cannot be done!”

Xia Wenjin said, ”This Wen Hao is quite dishonest; he thought he hid the malice in his eyes well. If he returns, he will seek revenge. Even if this matter is resolved, we must still be cautious to avoid his anger towards the villagers of Wangshan Town and Lord Shang.”

Huangfu Jingchen silently nodded, having also seen the malice. Wen Hao was obviously a small-minded person, narrow-hearted and petty, but for now, they could only take one step at a time.

He looked at Xia Wenjin intently, ”It’s been a long night of tossing around, you should get some rest!”

For once, Xia Wenjin obediently nodded, ”Yu Shikui may arrive tomorrow. This will be a tough battle, so it’s necessary to rest well and gather strength. You should rest too!”

Xia Wenjin naturally returned to her small room to rest, and Huangfu Jingchen returned to the inn.

The next day, Huangfu Jingchen got up early and went to the Town Mayor’s Mansion.

Shang Jingwang was staying there.

Shang Jingwang also rose very early. Yesterday’s incident with Huangfu Jingchen was, in Shang Jingwang’s mind, an earth-shattering event, leaving him restless.

Although Wen Hao’s attitude was good when he left, Shang Jingwang knew that some high-ranking people would not have a bigger heart as their rank increases, but instead would repay grudges.

This meant he had offended Wen Hao, and the days ahead might not be easy.

Thinking about this, he smiled bitterly, but considering the impending unknown situation with Yu Shikui’s arrival, he couldn’t worry about the future.

Wang Bolao, of course, took good care of Shang Jingwang, assigning a maid specifically to attend to his washing and grooming, and now breakfast was ready.

Shang Jingwang had little appetite, but upon hearing that Huangfu Jingchen had arrived, he was delighted and quickly had someone extend an invitation.

Huangfu Jingchen was not modest and sat down to have breakfast.

Shang Jingwang kept glancing at Huangfu Jingchen. Huangfu Jingchen ate with elegance, yet not slowly, quickly finishing two buns and drinking a bowl of porridge.

Of course, he knew Shang Jingwang was watching him, knew Shang Jingwang was uneasy. He looked over and said, ”Lord Shang, you should eat more. No one knows what today holds. If it’s a hard fight, you can’t afford to falter then.”

Shang Jingwang smiled bitterly, picking up a bun to nibble on, it tasted like wax to him. After a couple of bites, he swallowed hard and hesitated, ”Young Master Jing, my heart, is quite uncertain...”

If General Wen failed to persuade Lord Yu, or if a conflict arose, the people of Wangshan Town...

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”It’s no use worrying now. We’ll take it one step at a time!”

The words were not optimistic. Shang Jingwang understood that Huangfu Jingchen could not give him any reassurance. This matter was ultimately not within Huangfu Jingchen’s control.

He ate another bun with a heavy heart and drank half a bowl of porridge but couldn’t eat any more.

Shang Jingwang planned to look into the quarantine zone. The antidote was researched; all that was missing now was time. If Yu Shikui delayed by a few more days, things would resolve themselves.

Upon reaching the front hall, Huangfu Jingchen saw his troubled appearance and couldn’t help but offer some reassurance, ”I have already sent someone to inquire. As soon as Yu Shikui arrives, they will report immediately!”

Just as he finished speaking, a person dressed in household soldiers’ clothing hurried over, knelt on one knee before Shang Jingwang, and bowed to Huangfu Jingchen, ”My lord, Young Master, the Yu County Magistrate has arrived!”
