The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 283: Chapter 283: Dark Sense of Humor

Xia Wenjin, who was suddenly pulled into a broad embrace, was bewildered, but she felt a strong emotion of fear, fear of losing someone.

She quickly understood that after contracting the epidemic, in recalling the blood she had stained her hands with in her past life and the innocent people who died because of her, she only thought of atonement. Therefore, she placed no importance on her life or death; even if she were to die, she would be at peace.

But she had overlooked that some people would be saddened by her death!

Huangfu Jingchen’s kindness toward her was something she could feel. However, firstly, the two hadn’t known each other for long, and secondly, her heart harbored memories from her past life. Her weary heart wouldn’t allow her to think too deeply, nor had she pondered over Huangfu Jingchen’s affection for her.

She just felt that, after all, Huangfu Jingchen had not been in the Jianghu for long, had encountered few people, and with a straightforward and benevolent personality, he naturally treated her, a friend at best, quite well.

Yet she hadn’t expected him to suffer so much, all because of her illness.

Her heart trembled slightly, as if something was broken, and a warm feeling rose with her emotions.

However, this feeling lasted only a moment. She again thought of the dream, everything in the dream was a depiction of her past life, the person she married for eight years and exhausted all her efforts on, in the end, became so unfamiliar.

At that time, Huangfu Yuxuan, in her eyes, was also like a young gentleman as brilliant as jade! The human heart is fickle; besides family affection, what emotion in the world remains unchanged?

Her heart was already riddled with wounds, scars everywhere, even if she felt warmth, felt moved by that warmth, yet that feeling of being moved had nothing to do with affection!

At this moment, she had no choice but to disrupt the atmosphere by saying, ”I can’t breathe!”

Huangfu Jingchen immediately let go. He had been too excited, too happy, and forgot that Wenjin’s body was still weak.

His face was full of joy, as if the long gloomy sky had suddenly cleared up, bringing a sense of clarity. His moment of losing composure made him blush a little, but more than anything, he felt an overwhelming sense of relief in his heart.

He hurriedly said, ”I’ll go find you something to eat.” ℯℯ𝑙.

Suddenly, there were two knocks on the door, and both turned to look at the entrance. Huangfu Jingchen went to open the door, and Doctor Yan came in, carrying a tray.

Huangfu Jingchen was a bit stunned, and said, ”Doctor Yan, why are you here?”

Doctor Yan placed the tray he was holding on the table. He had done this during dinner time before, and even this tray was identical to the one then—a bowl of hot porridge and a dish of small pickles.

After setting down the tray, Doctor Yan smiled broadly, saying, ”Doctor Xia, you really woke up. Mr. Ghost Doctor told me to prepare a bowl of hot porridge to deliver at this hour. I thought I was bringing it for Young Master Huang to eat, but it turns out Mr. Ghost Doctor knew Doctor Xia would wake up around this time!”

Huangfu Jingchen: ”...”

He distinctly remembered that wasn’t what was said before.

He was told Xia Wenjin wouldn’t wake until the earliest tomorrow morning, and if not, preparations for her affairs would be necessary!

Throughout the night, his heart felt as if it were in an abyss, both anxious and worried, not daring to blink for fear that if he did, Wenjin’s faint breaths might disappear.

Little did he know that there was knowledge across the way of Wenjin waking up in the middle of the night, sure to be hungry, and that Doctor Yan had been instructed to prepare food.

Seeing Huangfu Jingchen’s face looking off, Xia Wenjin said, ”What’s wrong with you? Your face doesn’t look too good!”

Doctor Yan couldn’t help but laugh, saying, ”Mr. Ghost Doctor said, this Young Master Huang is worried about Doctor Xia. For days he has worried himself to the point it has hurt both his heart and lungs, and the epidemic seeps in through every gap, likely already affecting his innermost organs. Therefore, he must be brought to the brink of life and death before he’s reborn! He told Young Master Huang that Young Master Xiao was at death’s door, mostly beyond saving, to push Young Master Huang’s concern to its extreme, then abruptly bring surprise, so he could heal!”

Doctor Yan looked full of admiration and said, ”Poison Doctor truly lives up to his reputation for being wise and prophetic!”

Xia Wenjin’s mouth twitched.

If others didn’t know, how could she not?

Huangfu Jingchen hadn’t been afflicted by the epidemic, and what nonsense about it possibly entering his innermost organs and bringing him to the brink of life and death? There was no such thing. He was just too worried about her, observed by the Poison Doctor, who purposefully teased him.

That old man was becoming increasingly playful and found more and more perverse pleasure in teasing.

This bowl of porridge came at just the right time, as Xia Wenjin was indeed hungry.

Drinking the porridge, though it wasn’t filling, it wasn’t suitable for her to eat much after recovering from such a serious illness, and since she was a doctor herself, she naturally understood this.

Doctor Yan inquired about Xia Wenjin’s condition. After all, it was the middle of the night. After urging her to get plenty of rest, he left.

Once Doctor Yan left, Xia Wenjin let Huangfu Jingchen go rest.

He looked truly exhausted.

The Undying Poison Doctor’s perverse joke had scared him terribly, so drained he was beyond words to describe it.

Seeing that Xia Wenjin was indeed fine, Huangfu Jingchen felt at ease. This was a severe epidemic area, and there was nowhere else to rest. Besides, Huangfu Jingchen wasn’t assured, afraid no one would be there to take care of Xia Wenjin in the middle of the night, so he leaned over on the table to manage through the night.

The next morning, the Undying Poison Doctor arrived.

Seeing the state of Huangfu Jingchen, he laughed heartily.

Although Huangfu Jingchen was teased, knowing that Xia Wenjin was truly better, no longer coughing blood, and able to get out of bed and move around, though her body was a bit weak after a prolonged illness, her spirit was much improved.

This prescription was effective, so Xia Wenjin immediately began having the medication prepared.

Despite her weak state, she wanted to busy herself with the work, but Huangfu Jingchen wouldn’t allow it. In the end, Xia Wenjin couldn’t win him over, so she sat and supervised.

Learning there was a remedy for the epidemic, the whole quarantine area was overjoyed.

However, this remedy was tailored to Xia Wenjin’s constitution; other patients with the epidemic needed slight adjustments. This was why the Undying Poison Doctor initially said this epidemic was elusive. Different people with different constitutions exhibited different symptoms, so based on varying times of onset, different remedies were necessary.

Though not a significant difference, using the same formula was unwise.

These findings were results from medication trials conducted in the early morning hours.

Fortunately, the general direction was clear, and only minor adjustments were needed, leaving only a matter of time.

Those severe epidemic patients were overwhelmed with joy upon learning a remedy was now available.

Since the measure of success started here with the severe epidemic patients, and they couldn’t wait any longer, the newly adjusted prescriptions and prepared medicine were naturally prioritized for them.

After more than a day of efforts, most severe epidemic patients had consumed the adjusted decoctions. Seeing those who had fallen into comas, previously a sure sign of no hope, now able to awaken again was truly encouraging and uplifting.

Xia Wenjin, with a weak body, personally supervised the pulse-taking and subsequent adjustments to the prescriptions based on patients’ actual conditions, and considered herbs. The situation now was very promising, proving her efforts these days were not in vain.

However, just as Xia Wenjin and all felt victory was within reach, disaster had already struck!
