The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Fire at Cuihua Pavilion

Side courtyard.

Xia Wenjin had already suspected that Huangfu Yuxuan felt humiliated by her escaping their engagement, and sent someone to kill her. After all, she and Huangfu Yuxuan had the mandates of their parents and a verbal engagement.

If she died, Huangfu Yuxuan can still establish a good relationship with Haotian Village. If he wants to succeed in the future, when he really needs Haotian Village’s assistance, Papa’s loyalty will undoubtedly help.

She didn’t expect her guess was true.

Knowing it was Huangfu Yuxuan who wanted to kill her, Xia Wenjin can’t say there’s no hatred, it’s impossible.

After narrowly escaping an assassination attempt, Xia Wenjin wasn’t set on revenge.

Because Huangfu Yuxuan’s identity is special, she didn’t want to implicate Haotian Village. The uncles in the village are all heroes of the Jianghu, she didn’t want them to be dragged again into a whirlpool with no retreat like in her previous life.

She just wants to live freely, be her true self! She doesn’t want a prosperous nation, noble status, or alluring men, only to enjoy the joys and sorrows, and live an easy Jianghu life.

But between her and Huangfu Yuxuan, there’s still a connection of enmity that can’t be untangled.

She thought about it a moment, but her face remained smiling, her bright gaze landing on the face of the assassin.

The same smile, yet the smile didn’t reach her eyes, which were filled with a void of coldness. The assassin trembled.

Xia Wenjin said, ”Open your mouth!”

The assassin dared not disobey, and as he opened his mouth, a small round object fell into it, which he swallowed with a gulp.

Xia Wenjin said blandly, ”Antidote!”

The assassin’s eyes widened suddenly, could the antidote be obtained so easily? Concentrating a little, he felt a current of warmth rising along his Dantian; his inner strength was usable again, and then, he could move.

The assassin was overjoyed, this antidote was truly formidable, and just after taking it for such a short time, he seemed to have recovered ninety percent.

Knowing who was behind it, Xia Wenjin felt quite complicated; she kept her word, she had not planned to eliminate the assassin, she said, ”Before you leave, help me with one thing!”

Feeling like he survived a catastrophe, the assassin nodded repeatedly, lowering his eyes to cover a dark glint.

Xia Wenjin turned her head and said, ”Clean up the traces you left here before you go! And take the people with you...”

A flash of cold light, the assassin hooked the ground with the tip of his foot, a knife was lifted, he grabbed and swung it in one fluid motion, aiming straight for Xia Wenjin’s waist.

The distance was so short; the surprise attack left no room even for an immortal.

The assassin had just been like a cowardly dog but was sly as a fox and cruel as a wolf.

Opportunity was before him, he had to try; what if he succeeded?

That would mean fifty thousand taels, all his!

The blade light flashed like a silver stream, reflecting the assassin’s grim smile like a night demon, extremely terrifying. ”Ah...” The cry was short and shrill, the blood splattered, staining the sunlight red...

Ronghua Pavilion.

Seeing Huangfu Jingchen turn his head and stare straight at him, Cao Ji’an’s lips curled into a sinister grin, arriving at the right time! He was just afraid this kid would run away.

Earlier, he didn’t dare face him head-on, which meant he was not as good as him, now was the time to take him down.

Huangfu Jingchen saw the sinister grin, his gaze darkened, suddenly leaping up, he swung a blade at Cao Ji’an.

The previous knife with a missing part was discarded during the fight, now in his hand was another from a quick snatch.

As he leaped up, the archers had an attack target, but, since he was so close to Cao Ji’an, the archers dared not shoot.

Cao Ji’an shouted, ”Just in time!” His voice carried a hint of joy at having everything under control, wielding his blade in greeting.

The prior strike didn’t make the kid drop the knife; Cao Ji’an held in a breath, readying to assert his might with this slash.

”Clang”, the blades clashed.

Cao Ji’an stifled a groan that was about to escape, forcing it down again with effort.

Pain exploded in his palm, almost losing his grip on his blade.

Just now, he felt a tremendous force impacting his knife from the blade hilt to his palm’s tiger mouth, up to his shoulder. Such was the force that not only did it shatter the tiger mouth, his entire arm seemed disconnected, numb and trembling.

One slash failed, Huangfu Jingchen’s second strike arrived again.

Cao Ji’an’s signature move, Cao Triple Kills, came out, yet didn’t injure this kid, but with just one cut, the kid nearly forced the knife from his hand.

Earlier, he clearly dared not face him head-on!

Cao Ji’an couldn’t fathom it, Huangfu Jingchen’s blade arrived, he could only manage the pain, wielding the knife to meet it.

Previously, it was Huangfu Jingchen who avoided direct engagement, attacking the weaknesses.

Now, it was Cao Ji’an who dared not confront Huangfu Jingchen directly.

After a few more exchanges, Cao Ji’an grew increasingly alarmed as he fought. He had so many, though not effectively aiding, yet still enough to cause a mess for that kid, but that kid fought more fiercely, heedless of a momentary lapse that allowed the kid to slice an arm cut, not deep, blood pouring, hurting strenuously.

No, numbers were his advantage, what was he doing engaging directly with the kid?

Seeing Cao Ji’an harbored fear, Huangfu Jingchen forced him back with a move, withdrew his blade, then ran south.

This man was incredibly cunning, once fearful, dared not withstand, always hiding among the Patrol Guards, wasting time. Better he’d find his own way to escape.

Tonight’s commotion vented his rage somewhat. This havoc startled the Governor Mansion, those patrol guards were thrown in turmoil, yet the Lord Governor wasn’t disturbed; was he hiding in his room, afraid to come out?

Huangfu Jingchen contemplated the best escape route, it seemed wherever he fled would lead to a tough contest.

If only he had Split Body Technique, he could cause another chaos, making a quick escape.

Cao Ji’an just fought Huangfu Jingchen for over ten moves; besides his tiger mouth splitting, his arm and back suffered wounds, though only grazed by the blade’s edge, hurt not serious, it was quite painful.

He was glad he timely pulled Patrol Guards over to block, else he’d have perished beneath this kid’s blade without doubt.

This man was formidable, presumably a first-class master of the Jianghu as rumored.

After living leisurely for so long, unexpectedly encountering such a master, Cao Ji’an felt both worried and relieved. Worried the kid might escape, relieved, of course, was the Lord Governor being absent from the mansion tonight.

Watching the crowd’s chaos among Patrol Guards and protectors in disarray, Cao Ji’an was thinking of an underhanded move to intercept, suddenly, outside the courtyard, a Patrol Guard hurried over.

Cao Ji’an knew him; this man was whom he arranged at Cuihua Pavilion.

Cuihua Pavilion, east to Ronghua Pavilion, spaced quite far apart, the Patrol Office was big, noises here couldn’t reach there unless he mobilized their guards here. What was this man doing over here? And with an urgent face?

Cao Ji’an couldn’t care about Huangfu Jingchen’s side, greeted and shouted, ”Why are you here?”

The Patrol Guard said urgently, ”Master, something’s wrong, Cuihua Pavilion is on fire...”
