The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Warmth

Xia Wenjin instinctively sidestepped, luckily reacting swiftly. A fist whizzed past where she had just stood.

The intruder’s punch missed, but they immediately followed up with another move, intricate and seamless.

The weather wasn’t great; the waxing moon was dim and obscured by clouds, allowing only vague outlines of the person’s figure to be seen, with the shadows of the flowering trees by the window making it even darker.

Their face was masked, covering their mouth and nose. They were tall and moved extremely fast.

This is the Governor Mansion—could it be Wang Wan’er has placed people outside?

Or perhaps, was it a patrol passing by that discovered her?

A tinge of viciousness grew in Xia Wenjin’s heart; if she were caught, her feigned illness and weakness would be exposed.

Thinking of this, Xia Wenjin decided not to hold back anymore.

The two exchanged blows, fists and kicks clashing fiercely.

The opponent’s punch carried powerful force, their moves fierce and decisive. Clearly well-trained; if truly hit, it would be hard to withstand.

Xia Wenjin’s punches were like velvet covering steel, strong yet supple, combining force with trickery.

For the moment, they were evenly matched.

From her moving to the window until the opponent struck, both of their actions were astoundingly fast, almost giving no time to react, with each aiming for lethal points.

Xia Wenjin didn’t want to reveal her skills, using only common, simple moves seen in the streets.

The opponent was the same, simple moves common in the streets, but with their inner strength, even these simple moves were incredibly powerful.

In the blink of an eye, they had exchanged seven or eight moves, and Xia Wenjin realized something was off.

If it was a patrol, there should be no hesitation; they would directly call others to surround her, leaving her with no escape. But this person only wanted to eliminate her, acting with vicious intensity, clearly unwilling to alert anyone. This was an intent to silence with death.

A patrol seeks to capture alive for the reward, not silence by death!

And as for ”weakness,” no one understood it better than her. She and Huang Zheng both pretended; Huang Zheng was skilled in martial arts, with keen senses, yet there had been such a commotion outside the window without any sound from inside the room. This was very unusual.

Xia Wenjin’s heart moved, and she suddenly whispered, ”Huang Zheng!”

The person’s punch was dodged by Xia Wenjin, and as she was momentarily distracted, he saw an opening and seized the opportunity to convert his fist into fingers, striking towards Xia Wenjin’s lower back, aiming for the Qihai acupuncture point.

Xia Wenjin was startled and hastily used her bundled-up pig trotters and steamed buns to block it.

His fingertips pressed onto the bundle; the inner strength condensed at his fingertips, but the oil paper wrapping couldn’t withstand it, bursting instantly, splattering his fingers with oil. Meanwhile, the two words Xia Wenjin uttered reached his ears, and he paused, even forgetting about the oily residue on his fingers, quickly stepping back.

All of this happened almost simultaneously, both attacking with incredible speed, reacting swiftly. As Xia Wenjin called out, it was precisely when the man struck towards her Qihai point.

No need to see, it was obvious who it was.

Xia Wenjin ripped off her mask in anger, exclaiming, ”It really is you? You actually wanted to silence me for good?”

Huangfu Jingchen wiped the oil from his fingertips, feeling awkward, and pulled off his mask to wipe his hands, reluctantly explaining: ”I didn’t know it was you!”

The oil paper bundle broke, dropping its contents; if not for her quick reaction, only one steamed bun would remain to avoid complete loss.

Xia Wenjin was even angrier, especially seeing her carefully wrapped food fall to the ground. She held up the last bun, exclaiming, ”Huang Zheng, you ungrateful scoundrel! I thought you were starving, so I packed food for you and came to deliver it, but you sneakily try to kill me to silence me!”

Huangfu Jingchen was surprised; Xia Wenjin wasn’t lying—indeed, the fallen items were food. She came to bring him something to eat.

Although he couldn’t see Xia Wenjin’s face, he could sense her anger. Huangfu Jingchen futilely explained, ”I thought it was Qiao Xi!”

”Qiao Xi? What do you mean?” Xia Wenjin was perplexed; wasn’t that Wang Wan’er’s maid?

Huangfu Jingchen, unwilling but compelled, awkwardly explained, ”Qiao Xi... can use martial arts, you know, right?”

Xia Wenjin knew, but Qiao Xi only had basic skills, nothing significant. She didn’t understand: ”What does it have to do with Qiao Xi having or not having martial arts?”

Huangfu Jingchen’s face darkened, but thankfully the moonlight was dim, hiding his expression as dark as the bottom of a pot. He nearly gritted his teeth to explain, word for word: ”Last night, she snuck into my room, intending to... intending to...”

”To take advantage of you?”

”Hmph!”

That was an admission!

Xia Wenjin burst into laughter uncontrollably, unable to hold back.

As she laughed, she felt Huangfu Jingchen’s ashamed and angry gaze slicing through like a blade.

Quickly restraining her laughter, Xia Wenjin said, ”Sorry, sorry, I couldn’t help it. I didn’t expect it—the guts Qiao Xi had to try and take advantage of you. You know, with good looks comes trouble. Truly, you are too dangerously handsome. But thinking again, men aren’t like women; even if taken advantage of, it happens. Plus, with your pride and aloofness, even if you were taken advantage of, you wouldn’t publicize it, so she wasn’t afraid of her lady finding out.”

Huangfu Jingchen’s face was nearly freezing, blushing red, angrily retorting, ”Could you not use those words?”

Seeing Huangfu Jingchen’s shame and anger, Xia Wenjin stopped, not saying those words again, but still curious, suppressing a laugh to ask, ”So did she succeed...?”

Huangfu Jingchen: ”...”

This mischievous scoundrel clearly came to tease him, right? Definitely!

Did she think he couldn’t hear the suppressed laughter in her voice or see the face twisting to hold back laughter?

Especially her eyes which, even under the dim moonlight, shone brightly, filled with curiosity and mischief, like she was watching a show—did she think him blind?

So infuriating!

Yet he had to explain, gritting his teeth, ”I pretended to roll over, knocking down the stool by the bed. Since she sneaked over, fearing the noise would alert others, she fled in fright.”

Xia Wenjin found it amusing. Last night, Wang Wan’er watched by her bedside while Xia Wenjin pretended to sleep with her eyes closed, she had several times overheard Wang Wan’er gulping, feeling queasy.

Luckily, Wang Wan’er just watched and didn’t make a move.

Qiao Xi, probably also enticed by appearances, aware of Wang Wan’er’s presence here, wanted to take advantage of Huangfu Jingchen’s place.

As the master is, so must be the servant!

Xia Wenjin concluded, ”You had murderous intentions just now?”

Huangfu Jingchen didn’t explain; he indeed had murderous thoughts earlier. If it were really Qiao Xi again, he didn’t want another nauseating incident, and such a wicked servant, serving her mistress, who knows how many evil deeds they had committed, was deservedly doomed!

Yet he never imagined it would be Xia Wenjin coming to deliver him food.

With the misunderstanding cleared up, Xia Wenjin wasn’t someone who imposed unnecessarily. Besides, in the earlier situation, as Huang Zheng intended to silence her, wasn’t she about to do the same?
