The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Devastation

When they came in, the five assassins immediately saw Xia Wenjin.

The pawnshop owner was so frightened by the ferocity of the five people that, to save his own life, he told them everything he knew and even drew a portrait of Xia Wenjin.

At this moment, Xia Wenjin’s face was their target.

But hearing Xia Wenjin’s conversation with Wang Wan’er, it was clear that to take down this Brocade Clothes boy, they’d first have to remove obstacles, so they showed no mercy to those in the courtyard.

Blood splattered the ground, severed limbs flew everywhere.

In just a quarter of an hour, the courtyard was in complete disarray.

Xia Wenjin said, ”Wan’er, Wan’er, judging by this situation, these guys are quite fierce. You are worth a fortune, it’s better not to stay here, leave them to it, let’s retreat.”

This was exactly what Wang Wan’er had in mind.

Although Wang Wan’er usually acted arrogant and ruthless, people like her were very cautious about their lives. When faced with the really fierce, especially these five assassins who killed without blinking an eye, she felt afear in her heart and immediately said, ”Right, right, let’s go that way!”

Qiao Xi wanted to come over and support her but was blocked by Xia Wenjin.

Wang Wan’er hurriedly fled from the other side, down the terrace to escape first.

Xia Wenjin gave Huangfu Jingchen a look.

Huangfu Jingchen hesitated only a moment before following.

These assassins were slaughtering people like flies, but these courtyard guards were just accomplices to their evil deeds, a dog-eat-dog situation.

Leaving the South Courtyard, Wang Wan’er kept running, with the sound of pursuit behind her.

The assassins were ruthless, and these guards who bullied the weak were frightened by them; seeing Wang Wan’er escape, they immediately retreated towards her.

Xia Wenjin’s eyes shifted and said, ”Miss Wang, we’ll draw these people away for you, you quickly hide!”

Wang Wan’er shamelessly replied, ”I still prefer it when you call me Wan’er...”

Before she finished speaking, Xia Wenjin had already run towards another path.

Naturally, Huangfu Jingchen followed Xia Wenjin.

Wang Wan’er was deeply moved; not only was this exceptional young man handsome, but he was also so considerate of her in key moments, far better than those guards. She vowed to treat him well.

On the other side, Xia Wenjin quickly leaped behind a fake mountain.

Huangfu Jingchen observed coldly and said, ”What are you up to?”

While Xia Wenjin’s gaze roamed, seemingly searching for something, he replied, ”No idea who sent these assassins; they just want me dead. And Wang Wan’er isn’t easy to deal with either. As your servant, of course, I can only keep you warm at night, but Wang Wan’er wants me to warm her bed too, which I won’t agree to. Look at my small arms and legs, how can I fight so many people? So, let them check each other’s strength.”

Huangfu Jingchen’s lips curled slightly, finding this boy somewhat interesting. His initial plan was to step in once Xia Wenjin couldn’t hold it anymore, but now it seemed Xia Wenjin wasn’t acting recklessly but rather had a plan.

His gaze swept over a certain spot, calmly asking, ”What are you doing here again?”

Xia Wenjin cheerfully explained, ”These assassins are tough; don’t be fooled by the number of people at Hua Cheng Villa, they surely aren’t their match. Their target isn’t the people at Hua Cheng Villa. When they manage to escape, they’ll definitely come after me. Since I’ve already revealed myself, I can’t outrun them, I have to use the advantageous terrain.”

He pointed to the place Huangfu Jingchen’s gaze had just swept over, saying, ”See there? Governor Wang has really invested a lot into this courtyard; he even set traps. That’s it!”

Huangfu Jingchen glanced at Xia Wenjin again.

A hint of appreciation flickered in his eyes, and he whispered something.

Xia Wenjin didn’t hear clearly, turned his head, and asked, ”What did you say?”

Huangfu Jingchen expressionlessly replied, ”I said, my servant is really smart, well worth taking in!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

If you don’t talk about this, we can have a nice conversation.

He rolled his eyes, not responding, just pouted and said, ”Those assassins are coming for me; you should hide for now!”

Huangfu Jingchen smoothly retreated behind a tree.

In just a moment, two assassins in black appeared in sight, spotting Xia Wenjin immediately and saying, ”He’s there!”

More assassins appeared in sight.

One, two, three, four, five!

None were missing.

Wang Wan’er’s guards are really ineffective!

Xia Wenjin immediately appeared panic-stricken, frantically running in circles, trying to climb the fake mountain to escape.

This clumsy and panic-stricken look made the assassins smile wryly. How did this silly boy pummel their companion into disability, who was now lying in bed like a mummy, mumbling for them to avenge him?

Despite their disdain, they charged forward.

Xia Wenjin shrieked in panic, ”Don’t... don’t come any closer, if you do I’ll jump!” Saying this, he stood on a stone about a foot high.

This guy must be here for laughs, right? Dying from jumping from that height, even ten times higher, is impossible.

Huangfu Jingchen watched on the side, his lips twitching; this kid couldn’t act without exaggerating, did he not realize it was too much?

The assassins, though stunned by Xia Wenjin’s nonsensical antics, remained calm, especially recalling their previous encounter where he slipped away by using a flock of sheep to lead them away, making it hard to find him.

They slowed their pace, cautiously eyeing Xia Wenjin.

Xia Wenjin jumped on the stone and threatened with wild gestures, ”Stop, don’t come closer, I’ll jump, I really will jump...”

The leading assassin snorted coldly, reaching out and drawing a dagger from his sleeve, ready to throw it at Xia Wenjin.

Xia Wenjin placed his hand on a protrusion on the fake mountain, and forcefully twisted it.

Before the assassin had thrown his dagger, the sound of arrows whizzing filled the air, as holes opened up on the fake mountain, launching crossbow arrows.

The crossbow arrows arrived suddenly, fast and fierce, fanning out in all directions, and the arrow tips emitted a dim blue glow.

Even Xia Wenjin was stunned; wow, I only knew there were traps here but didn’t realize they were so deadly.

The five assassins were cautious enough; they had spread themselves out, wary of Xia Wenjin’s tricks. But they hadn’t anticipated it wasn’t tricks, rather a major setup.

The first one to shout ”No!” was hit by a crossbow arrow.

Of the five, two were quick to react, dodging immediately upon sensing danger, narrowly avoiding the crossbow arrows and standing far away, no longer daring to approach.

The other three, unable to dodge, were instantly shot dead, while one was merely hit in the arm and tried to retreat but collapsed from poison after moving only three feet.

Such formidable poison.

Xia Wenjin clicked his tongue in admiration; this poison was even harsher than Wang Wan’er!
